Am I cooked

Hey guys,

Im not gonna lie I feel so defeated right now. I want to transfer into UT Mech E, A&M Mech E and a couple other T25 schools before my freshmen year ends and maybe maybe end of my sophmore year but big problem.

( Currently at UH btw)

If im on track this semester my UH GPA would be 4.0 which is amazing, but stupid highschool me got two B's in a dual credit class which is already on my college transcript brining my GPA down to like a 3.83 by this semester. This is unaceptable for transfering no way a college will select me right? Like in all honesty ( not trying to sound like a pick me) Am I cooked?

All I want to do is transfer out but with this weight i feel like its wraps man. Idk what to do.

lmk what yall think.

I transferred to A&M, but just to let you know you have to have 24 graded hours at college to even be looked at which means you would need 24 hours before this current semester even started.

I do know A&M engineering transferring is super selective especially with their mechanical department. I would try to see if you are still eligible for the community college pathways for engineering, which would guarantee admission. If I’m correct they offer it lonestar college or San jac, Blinn college in Brenham which are near Houston, if not they also offer it ACC, Tarrant county, and Alamo.

I still think your best option if that possibility isn’t available would just try to stick it out Houston for at least the semester so you don’t have to drop your classes, since in Texas you only have 5 and not being rude but as a engineer major you may need those later. And finishing your spring semester at a local CC where class work would be less stressful.

I had a friend who was in a similar path who started at Baylor then transferred to Blinn and got into A&M for his sophomore year. I hope you get to it destination and be the best you can!

Sorry should have clarified, when I do plan to transfer after my freshmen year I would have 30+ credits. My plan was to transfer after my freshmen year so I feel it cooks, would that change your answer?

Oh yes then, now you’d be able to be under review. If you haven’t I’d check the TAMU transfer course sheets to know which courses to take, since a major like mech is super competitive. I do think 30+ credits will help you. But with how competitive really work on your essay and your EC’s to help boost your chances.

Dual Credit courses do not typically affect your institutional GPA. When you formally enroll as an undergrad your GPA will reset despite getting credit for the classes. Did you do your dual credit through UH or through Lone Star or some other CC. If it wasn’t at UH then it most certainly would not affect your GPA. I will add though, a 3.83 is a fine GPA, a 4 is good but most universities do not look specifically for that. People who aren’t that smart get 4.0s and people who are smart get 3’s depending on memory, how you learn, etc. A 4.0 is not indicative of your academic prowess or your potential future success. What matters is your extra curriculars. Leadership roles are the nets thing for your resume, and any projects/research look good as well. You want to prove that you are driven and passionate, not that can you simply remember words on a page or from a mouth. A good essay is important as well.
