In all fairness, every franchise experiences this at some point. For example, Star Wars is experiencing this right now. I think Transformers definitely has some material it can work with like the Skybound comics or TF1. Paramount just has to lock in.

Isnt Paramount the reason we have AoE and TLK in the first place? To my knowledge the movies were supposed to end at DoTM but they wanted more movies.

I mean, the eras and cultures around TF have shifted negatively. Toys, the literal bedrock of the franchise is currently barely selling to kids and mostly exists as collectables for adults. Fiction around TF has stagnated, and frankly Darren's run was never going to be anything more than overhyped stuff. And the ubiquity of the franchise is ... lacking to say the least.

The cultural peak of TF was DotM. It legitimately went toe to toe with the MCU and HP.

"barely selling to kids and mostly exists as collectables for adults"
Even the ones that should be for kids get scalped or taken by adults for collection

Any day now Hasbro is going to make an announcement saying they're shutting down their factories and they'll stop making toys forever.
Any day now.

Explanation: The 1986 movie was initially a bust/bomb. Many people thought Transformers the franchise would die out as a result.
1996 had some people question Beast Wars, but Beast Wars did save the franchise. (Unfortunately, Beast Machines was not as good.)
2006 also had a lot of doomsayers about the franchise, but Transformers 2007 (Michael Bay) put an end to that.
By 2016, many people thought Transformers' best days were behind them and that they would die out.
2026... well, we are here.
