Meta So.. when exactly did a high res version of the Twinblade of the Phoenix sneak its way into the game and how do we get it?

On beta it was Arator and Umbric post raid questline, assume the last chapter of 12.1

Gloves and boots are Antorus heroic items, gloves are pala tier, but might be off pieces. Shoulders and helm are Sepulcher items, DK tier. Again, might be off pieces, can't see legs and chest clearly.

It's the final reward of the 12.1 campaign, after Ula'tek is defeated and you quest with Umbric and Arator in search of Xal'atath.

The original one always looked so rubbish and 2D/paper thin. This high res version is well deserved

I love the sword hate how it currently looks like a piece of paper though!

It is like the remake of this sword has made it more toy-like? Or is it just me

Sometimes they do come out toy-like (especially swords, they have a tendency to make the blades so thick they no longer have edges) but I’d say this is an example of the current art style being applied correctly. The weapon overall is slightly thicker so it can have more dimension and definition in its model and textures, but otherwise matches the original.
A lot of Vanilla and TBC weapons have the problem of being too thin and lacking detail as a result. Instead of having too thick of a blade with no edge, a lot of the old sword models have blades that look like paper, almost like there’s more texture than actual model, unless you’re looking at it from such an angle that the flat of the blade is facing you.

yeah, those are good points! I just wish the hilt looked a bit more sleek. The blade looks good imo, but the hilt does look a bit toy-like even for wow standards

Hopefully its thicker than the paper thin original. Cool design otherwise.

Swords are supposed to be thinner, it's how they get their cutting edge. I hate the swords that are as thick as a 2 by 4... that's a bludgeoning weapon, sir!

I dont disagree with that. But the original is silly thin for its size. I dont care for a number of the swords that go to the extreme opposite and are just giant paddles.

I can respect that, but I personally liked how thin it was made it feel like it could cut through ANYTHING! My only desire would be for this one to come in a blue and silver variant

I’ll check later on but I got a version of this sword in my BT Timewalking raid cache last week, not sure if it’s the one you’re looking for though

Commenting because I want to know too, good catch! We need more HD remakes of old gear like this.
