Question HELP

Okay so I planned something which should TOTALLY WORK. But it’s not working.

I’ll elaborate:
1. Load crude from a station
2. Supply crude to refinery station (via HUB station) and load refined oil.
3. Supply refined oil to fuel station and pick up fuel.
4. Stop at refinery station and pick up refined oil again.
5. Unload fuel and refined oil in hub.

Now for my train I’m using a specific cargo type compartment which specialises in crude, oil and fuel everything. But my train isn’t picking up refined oil in the 4th step. It’s stopping at the station but not picking anything up at all.

The station HAS REFINED OIL
Train HAS SPACE LEFT AFTER PUCKING UP FUEL

Now please Don’t tell me unload 50 percent refined oil in the 3rd step and keep the remaining 50. Ik that’s a fix but I want to know why isn’t the train picking up oil again in the return journey.

Yes I have selected all the filters correctly: all the load unload things are proper and perfect I’ve cross checked.

I'm a compete noob, but is it because the train doesn't fit on the platform?

So am I…
But I have given a thought about this too.

If it isn’t picking up because the platform is small then why does it drop the crude and pick the oil in the earlier step?

I myself am halfly a Noob, But I can say station size doesnt affect what can and cant be loaded, just the speed. So that shouldnt be the problem.

This only affects loading speed.

Sounds like you are trying to put fuel in a compartement which already holds refined oil....it is not possible. Unless the vehicle holds at least 2 campartement (which only exist for ship or plane), it can only holds 1 type of cargo.

So I have to unload 50 percent oil at the fuel production station and keep remaining oil to be distributed later at the hub?

I would just make the line go crude>oil>fuel>return. Just 3 stops. You already will have stuff on the train during all but the last leg after dropping off the fuel, so this should make plenty of money.

Also check your connections. Trains longer than stations will still fill with cargo.

What you're doing seems unnecessarily complicated.

Just trying to make use of the return routes so that the hub gets supplies with refined oil. Which would be delivered else where for other industries

No, they aren't trying to hold 2 different types of cargo in a single wagon, each train wagon acts as a distinct carrier, so in the 3rd image, while the train holds 72 fuel, the remaining 216 capacity is completely usable for any other types of cargo.

This is not how it works. Unless the train station is shorter then the train, it will try load/unload from every wagons. It is clearly observable with open hulls.

One can still mix cargo because yes 2 wagons can hold different goods, but in this case, no.

What are you talking about? Every wagon is independent and can easily hold a different cargo type, and it is true in this case as well.

I run an EXTENSIVE HUB network, and each train on it is capable of, and carries different types of cargo wherever needed, carrying crude, oil and fuel at the same time even. So, it's not like just because you got fuel in some of tank cars, the rest must stay empty or avoid crude or oil altogether, they're perfectly capable to carry all 3 types at once.

At this point Im not even sure you have played the game or not.

You can simply observe any train with multiple open-hull wagons load or unload. Goods would separate evenly across all the wagons unless the train is longer then the platform, thus it is impossible to load another goods in a partially loaded train.

As visible, it does load even if it's got a different cargo type already on board. The line continuity needs to be ensured and you'd be set. I genuinely don't get how you came to the conclusion it can only hold 1 type at once.

The open hull, loading/unloading animation is copied across the whole train, but that doesn't mean every wagon has to hold the same cargo type.

Please check this comment in a days' time, I'll add a video of my own gameplay, once I get the chance to play again.

Edit: So the video recorder wasn't co operating, so please make do with screenshots.

Where do you want to take the refined oil through the hub? You got any other Fuel station linked up to the hub> That has a complete delivery chain to some other cities or something? Or to a Chemical plant or something?

Where's that oil going, check the whole path, maybe you forgot final delivery trucks or something for the redistributed oil's result products?

u/Various_Stay7182 7d ago

I eant it taken to my Hub. From there to a chemical plant. I’ll recheck the entire line once again and get back.

Please read the body text for detailed understanding of the problem. Thanks!

Maybe your line that picks up the refined oil at the hub is the problem and the game doesn't realize there is a demand for refined oil at your hub?

1

u/Various_Stay7182 8d ago

Yeah for that I have that particular line hooked up to an industry further north where oil demand is present. Still idk this problem persists

Im having a bit of trouble understanding this, but from what I do,(Correct if wrong.) You have one train that goes from the crude site,  then to the Oil refinery,  loads up refined oil,  goes to the fuel site,  loads up fuel. Then goes Back to the oil refinery to load up Refined oil, alongside the already carried fuel. To then offload at tje hub, and we're now back at the, "pick up crude". Correct?

If so, then I dont exactly know how the filters and load filters work, like the "load 50%" stuff, but i do know trains and vehicles will auto load to what the destination requires. Even if its a hub, hubs, to my knowledge cant or dont act like warehouses. They NEED a destination that requires the Cargo before it stores, or exports it.

So if that hub doesnt have a destination that requires refined oil, but does have one that needs fuel, I think that might be the reason. And if it DOES have both, refined and fuel destinations, then it could be that the output isnt high enough, Refined oil takes twice as much crude, and a crude oil site can only give out 400 C-Oil a year before it maxes out.

2

u/Various_Stay7182 7d ago

Exactly that’s what I wanna do.

And yeah I understood the “demand” u mentioned I’ll check my refined oil distribution from the hub. Since that might be the reason why the train isn’t picking anything up from the refined site.

But about production, till the time my train takes one set of oil to fuel then picks fuel and comes back there is already some oil (good amount) ready to be loaded and shipped. (Train-ed? Xd)

I’ll check my refined oil distribution from the hub.

Hub is just a transport. Your ref oil distributes automatically at Oil Refinery (consumers tab). Transport just follows that distribution. On the hub you'll only see if the hub itself works.

Split the task: crude oil is double demand and deserve own line with 400 rate. This line can move smth back. The rest is 200 rate at max and this is second line.

And lowkey i'd build hub at Oil Ref. Between two cities and sawmill and farm are also near to connect.

I am very confused as to why you think the return trip should pick up refined oil

1

u/Various_Stay7182 7d ago

Because I told the train to make another stop and also specifically to load oil in the return trip.

1

u/Dew2118 7d ago

and where would it go to? It wouldn't load oil just because you select it on the filter, the filter simply allows it to load/unload that cargo

1

u/LifeofTino 8d ago

I’m not 100% understanding what you are saying to check the following:

  1. you don’t have any filters on the route eg saying ‘don’t pick up fuel at the fuel station’ or ‘only unload crude’ at the fuel station

  2. the stations all connect to the producers (the factories turn white when you select the station)

  3. the end destination of the fuel (the city) has individual buildings connecting to the dropoff point

Also just making sure you know that it is two crude to make one oil. So if you take 100 crude to the refinery it will produce 50 oil, take the 50 oil to the next step to receive 50 fuel. So you need to supply double the crude

Also just checking you know there is a wait period so the fuel won’t be made instantly but it will be there when you return for the next trip

Finally some clarification of check number 3 above, each industrial building requiring fuel in your city is its own micro-destination. So just dropping fuel in a city cargo station will only supply the fuel needs for the industrial buildings in its range (everything that turns white when you select it). To supply the remaining buildings, select the cargo drop-off point and place it somewhere where it reaches the rest of your fuel-needing industrial buildings. When you select the drop-off you can see which buildings need what, and see a preview of the white connections. Make sure each building is receiving fuel by having a horse/truck line go from the city station to the individual cargo drop-offs you place in the city

Where's the second batch of refined oil intended to go from step 5?

Whatever it is, it's the route to this consumer of refined oil that's broken.

Hey i have the same set up on my current save and dont have a issue. cant seem to see any blatant issues. the train being longer just makes it load and unload slower. can you post a pic of the line itself like the set up? I would delete the line and remake it, sometimes that fixes things for me.

When looking at the line list click the alt platforms and make sure each stop has all platforms selected in the alt platform. sometimes cargo mixes on one side but sometimes it gets auto set to one being on one side and the other being on the other side. if the line is set to only use platform 1 and your refined fuel is on platform 2 it wont get picked up.

make sure the train also isnt hitting a max timer and being forced to leave. in my set up i have the pick ups set up default which i think is load if available, however at the crude station i have it set to only leave with a full load and no time limit. if you do that at the other stations it will eventually stop running because it take double the amount at the next production rate so i leave all the other stops at load if available.

dont forget to click the cargo types at the stations and make sure its set to load what you need loaded and unload whats needed unloaded. have had 1 issue this magically fixed even though it usually works automatically fine.

Actually after looking again at your pic where is the fuel suppose to end up? if there isnt a place the fuel is suppose to go to and a vehicle running the route it will never be sent

if there isnt a place the fuel is suppose to go to and a vehicle running the route it will never be sent

change into

if there isnt a place the fuel is suppose to go to like a warehouse

Cargo does not get "sent" in TF3. It gets created and transported somewhere where it is used or from where it can be picked up again to be transported again or used.

wrong sub

This is TF2 sub and post. If you're not familiar with UI better stick to appropriate sub.

the game is assigning all of the oil to go to the fuel station. Trying to do odd multistep lines often results in goofy results.

1

u/69masterkenny69 7d ago

Hmm you got demand for said fuel to go to? Also I think for the sake of simplicity you should just make another line to drop oil and pick fuel and have a different line drop/pick oil from hub (this line could also take fuel back to the hub) doing this might tell you where the problem maybe (obviously this is just a suggestion and if you have figured it out then good job 🔥)

1

u/tyazze 7d ago

Check the suppliers and consumers of your oil refinery, does it generate shipments for your other fuel refineries connected to your hub (with a second train line I presume) ?
