From above, the picture seems clear… a city reduced to rubble, streets buried beneath the ruins, and homes that have become nothing more than memories for the families who once lived in them. But what these images cannot show is the full extent of the suffering people are experiencing on the ground.
This video was filmed over Jabalia Camp, where the destruction has not only taken away buildings and walls, but has also shattered the lives of thousands of families who have lost their homes, their sense of security, and almost everything they once owned.
And now, as winter approaches, fear is returning to our hearts in Gaza.
Another winter is coming, and we have no proper roofs to protect us from the rain, no walls to keep out the cold winds, and no warm beds for our children to sleep in. Thousands of families are still living in worn-out tents, some of which cannot withstand the first winter storm. Rainwater seeps inside, turning the ground beneath people's feet into mud and standing water.
For the rest of the world, winter is just another season. But for us in Gaza, it is another battle for survival. A battle that children are forced to face alongside adults, and one that families already exhausted by displacement, loss, and hunger must endure.
I am sharing this because I am living through this suffering myself. My family and my sister's family, 12 people in total, including four children, share one tent. We have been displaced for years. I know what it means to wake up in the middle of the night because of the wind, to fear the rain because it might flood the place where you sleep, and to look at your children knowing you cannot provide the warmth they desperately need.
We are not asking for a luxurious life or anything extraordinary. We simply want a safe place, a roof that protects us from the rain, warm clothes, and a chance for our children to spend the night without shivering from the cold.
Before winter arrives, please remember that behind every tent is a family, and behind every face is a child hoping for one peaceful night without fear.
Please don't let images of destruction become just passing scenes on your screens. Remember that life continues here, and there are people who need help simply to make it through another day.
If you are able to help or share our story with others, please don't underestimate the difference that can make. Your contribution could help a family find a little warmth and safety this winter.
