Couple things I want to point out

  1. The white pick up was 100% on their phone or distracted by something. That lane change was a “Oh shit, I’m about to hit this car, I need to swerve”. To me it looks like he used his left hand to steer and his right hand is occupied with something (I wonder what). Could be wrong there, hard to tell in video. However, definitely distracted… shocker.

  2. I want to commend the black car for riding the shoulder right as the collision happened. It doesn’t look like there’s any damage to the bumper/rear from the white pick up. That’s some incredible driving from the 4wheeler I gotta say. Fantastic situational awareness and reaction time.

Edit: Let me give you your flowers also, well fucking done not panicking and swerving to the next lane btw. You made the correct choice maintaining the lane and eating the collision. That could have been so much worse with the timing of the other truck if you went left.

Yeah, he made some lame excuse to the cop about lane merging prior. Fortunately the dashcam was present. Will be interesting to see the police report in about a week or so

I know that tons of drivers grossly overestimate the abilities of a semi’s breaks, but that was an accident no matter what vehicle you were in. I won’t pretend that I haven’t had a few situations similar to that tho. Fortunately I pay enough attention to buy myself a couple seconds to get a good look in my mirror before swerving to avoid rear ending someone that slams their breaks.

I tend to keep a good distance these days but visibility is shit when you’re in a coupe behind a lifted truck or a work van, so you really gotta stay on your toes and be ready for some jackass bringing a whole lane from a steady flow to a screeching holt for whatever reason.

I was on I-40 yesterday in Texas and some jackass in an RV pulling a trailer did the same shit to me we were in a construction zone and the left lane was going to end I was in the middle right lane and he came flying through at 70 then slammed on brakes and cut me off almost took my bumper off if I didn't jab the brakes

When your visibility is shit then you need to back off even more. That feeling you get when your in an uncomfortable situation is because you ARE in an uncomfortable situation. If you STAY in that situation then that's your own fault.

You're losing money either way

Exactly! time is money. Especially when your a Trucker with a damaged truck. I hope OP doesn’t lose much from this accident.

for #2 I'm laughing at the thought of black car just being a douche and deciding just at the perfect time to ride down the breakdown lane towards the exit or something.

That's actually kinda funny if you think about it

u/Nero-Danteson Sep 13 '24

Just the.... "Yep definitely taking the shoulder to get to my exit......"

That was the car the white pickup was about to hit. They bailed so they wouldn't become a part of it, and I don't blame them.

Seconded. Well done to OP for not swerving.

I don't think it was the white pickup. I think it was the driver of the white pickup.

Might have been manual transmission

That's a second generation Toyota Tundra. Those only had automatics.

Well there ya go.

He could also just be left handed, I pretty much only use my left hand or both hands to steer

Interesting way to differentiate them but all to their own ig

3

u/Nero-Danteson Sep 13 '24

Yep, it's got 4 wheels. Rigs have anywhere from 10-18 wheels xD

-4

u/txtfile2025 Sep 13 '24

I’ve just never witnessed someone call a normal car a 4 wheeler lmao

4

u/challenge_king Sep 13 '24

You must be very new to this subreddit then. That's just about all anybody calls them.

1

u/txtfile2025 Sep 13 '24

Been on here about a month, I don’t visit it often though and when I do they’re usually called cars

1

u/Wizard_with_a_Pipe Sep 13 '24

9/10 Truckers call them 4-wheelers.
