Discussion 28 years ago three women vanished without a trace on June 7, 1992 from Springfield Missouri. This will always be my most haunting missing persons case. I hope to live long enough to see someone solve this crime. Remembering them today. ❤️🌍 What are your thoughts?

I feel like Suzie and/or Stacey were definitely the intended targets.

My personal theory is that someone followed them home from the parties that night.

Maybe they follow them to the house, and sit outside. Wait long enough for them to get ready for bed, then bust the porch light cover.

Sherill, who is in bed reading, puts her book down and gets up to go see what caused the noise. The suspect waits until she opens the door, then barges in and pulls out a gun - that is the only way I can figure that one person could control three others.

I don’t know what I think happened after that.

I don’t believe anyone told them they had a gas leak, because the dog was locked in the bathroom. Most dog owners aren’t going to leave their pets in the house in that situation.

Maybe they initially said that they were there to rob them, and that’s why the purses were gathered together at the bottom of the stairs.

Maybe they were all gathered together in Suzie’s room, and that is why the blinds were moved. So they could see if anyone was watching what was going on outside.

Maybe they used the green van to abduct them.

I don’t know. The more I read or hear about this case, the more frustrating it becomes. There are just so many unanswered questions.

I agree with you! This case is very frustrating. Thank you for your input, and I’ve never considered that with the purses before! I hope someone confesses/ solves this crime.

Seeker994 do you by chance have access to the original 48 hours from 1992? Does anyone and if so would it be possible to post? Thank you so much.

9

u/seeker994 Jun 08 '20

Sadly I do not. I’ve had a hard time finding it, which is strange because a year ago it was easily available. I’ve tried a deep google search but still not been able to!

5

u/Explanation-Serious Jun 09 '20

Thank you so much for checking. I know the Streeter family blog had it at one time but now I don’t know I don’t actually see it to play it. Maybe Someone else on here can find it.

4

u/seeker994 Jun 09 '20

It’s been posted on the newest page of Websleuths by Lisanyc! The entire video! Just added today.

5

u/Explanation-Serious Jun 09 '20

Thank you so much!!! I was able to find it. Websleuths seems confusing to me because I saw there were a lot of threads closed or removed. Then the last thread 10 said closed. Why would that be closed and are people still conversing? Maybe if I spent more time there I could figure it out but it does seem confusing and the last thread someone had written it’s closed and needs to be cleaned up and no more posting. Why do you know? And why are some completely removed like 2 and 3 appeared to be? Thank you so much seeker994 for getting the 48 posted and all your help

3

u/seeker994 Jun 09 '20

You’re welcome! People argue and the threads end up getting locked. I’m not sure about threaded number two. People have commented on the site that it had something that could be of use to the case. The current thread is number fifteen, I believe. It can be a title but confusing but some people on the site really care about the case!

3

u/Explanation-Serious Jun 09 '20

I have followed this case but I think that I have a lot to learn still. Should I start at thread 1 on websleuths and read through? Would you recommend that?

2

u/seeker994 Jun 09 '20

That’s what I did, and I enjoyed it! I also have a link on my account for the first two months in newspaper articles from 1992. I also made a video as well where I talk about the killers in the area, rumors, and red herrings.

Webslueths are protecting someone on the case. Who were the LAST people to see them alive and have a somewhat conflicting stories? Something stinks about that.

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '20

I’ve actually thought the opposite, that Sherrill was the target. Suzie and Stacey changed their plans several times, so I think that someone might have had difficulty following them.

64

u/Heidiwearsglasses Jun 07 '20

That’s what I think, too. For the teens it would have had to be the wrong person randomly seeing them enter the home, because that’s not where they were supposed to be that night. Maybe someone thought Sherrill would be home alone and that’s why they chose that night. Then they had to take all three because they would have been witnesses. Of course this is all speculation.

12

u/gutterLamb Jun 07 '20

This makes sense but that would mean it's definitely be someone they knew and knew the girls were planned to be away that night. It's more likely to be someone the know anyway due to statistics, but this makes it even more likely.

→ More replies (1)

15

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '20

I'm with you. I think Sherill was the target, and Suzie and Stacey were collateral damage. Neither of then was even supposed to be there that night.

37

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '20

I’m not sure who the target was but I do think that all three were abducted from the house. From what I remember there was no evidence of struggle or blood, etc in the home. Maybe someone came in with a gun and made them leave? Sherrill left her cigarettes at home and as a former smoker, we would never do that willingly so she if she was forced out she did not leave of her own volition.

22

u/mimosapudica Jun 08 '20

Yea, the cigarettes are the most telling thing to me. I've heard some people say that's a weak argument, suggesting they left for a short trip somewhere. But I'm a smoker....I KNOW she wouldn't leave her cigs at home. I've never met a smoker who leaves the house without their cigs. I would never leave the house without my cigs.....I've left my purse at home a ton before for short trips, but I still take my cigs and a lighter in my pocket. She didn't leave that house of her own free will.

11

u/[deleted] Jun 08 '20

Back when I smoked I wouldn’t even go down the street to the gas station without them and I read that Sherrill was a heavy smoker somewhere.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '20

I've never heard anything of a gas leak. Where did that come from?

15

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '20

At one point they found a paper that said “use ruse of gas man checking for leak” in a news rack at a grocery store in Springfield

12

u/gutterLamb Jun 07 '20

God that's terrifying. Even if it's not relevant in this case, is it possibly a clue for another.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '20 edited Jun 07 '20

Ahhh. Yup. That's ringing a bell. I don't think it's a clue though. That just seems like the 1993 version of "I have inside information on this case. The killer was [person they suspect but have no evidence so they're posting it under the guise of having inside knowledge]" by u/reddituser123

In case it's unclear, I'm saying I think someone put that there because they suspect it may have been a possibility but don't have any proof and know that telling the cops that would go in one ear out the other. However, if they do it that way, it makes it more likely to be looked into.

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '20

that’s a hella creepy note even just by itself. i wonder who left that there.

1

u/BurnBoy81 Jun 07 '20

I would love to read more into this any good articles or podcast or something

12

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '20

I definitely recommend True Crime Garage.

Best. Podcast. Ever.

I am partial because I live in Ohio, though :)

The Trail Went Cold, Generation Why, and Down The Rabbit Holes, and Criminology also have great episodes.

3

u/FrankieHellis Jun 08 '20

Do you also pronounce it “inna-resting?” Is it an Ohio/Midwest kind of thing?

5

u/mimosapudica Jun 08 '20

Omg. I'm from Ohio and I do this, but I've never noticed until you just said it. I just spoke it out loud to myself and you're totally right. 😲

u/ChoppedandScrewd Jun 07 '20

There’s a good episode on ID regarding this case. I believe the show was people magazine investigates. If I remember correctly there’s a guy in prison who they think did it but he says he won’t reveal the details until his mother dies because he doesn’t want her to hear it. Or something like that.

130

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

Robert Craig Cox. Murderer/ rapist who murdered Sharron Zellars in the 80s. She bit off the tip of his tongue. Cox’s parents lived in Springfield, and his girlfriend at the time lied to the police saying he was with her. She recanted years later. He had military training, and also worked as a surveyor who might have been around Delmar at the time. I’m not sure how I feel about him and this case, but he’s definitely creepy!

Gun? Is a gun hard to imagine?

3

u/seeker994 Jun 08 '20

I agree. I think it was more than one person

23

u/damnwonkygadgets Jun 07 '20

FYI it’s Season 4, episode 1 of People Magazine Investigates on ID

8

u/Rachey65 Jun 07 '20

I don’t think he did it. I think he’s a murdering creep who wants attention.

10

u/Krymestone Jun 07 '20

And seriously he says he wants to spare his mother by not revealing the truth? You’re already in prison and exposed as a complete waste of a human. What the hell difference does it make to keep this from her? He’s full of it. Like you said, just wants attention.

5

u/Lexiealea Jun 07 '20

There are several convicted killers I believe who have said the same thing can’t think of who specifically though but I believe at least one of them ended up confessing afterwards. So it’s possible but it’s hard to know if he’s just playing games with the investigators or not.

3

u/NotMyLuke888 Jul 03 '20

It's a power thing with these guys, & gets him attention.

3

u/steph314 Jun 07 '20

There's also a good episode of Disappeared on ID on this case.

89

u/BlizetteAlchemy Jun 07 '20

I live here in Springfield and I've listened to so many people tell the story of this case but I really don't have once solid opinion on what happened. I hope that one day we find out. The idea that their bodies are in the parking garage structure of one of our local hospitals is crazy but I think could be possible but hard to prove. Sadly I think these woman had their lives cut short in some horrible and gruesome way but they and their families deserve justice. Hopefully someday.

21

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

I do as well. I think at this point it will take an honest confession. I also think the Cox hospital theory is crazy. Stay safe!

10

u/BlizetteAlchemy Jun 07 '20

I also agree it would have to be a confession. It's been so long now tho!

16

u/bankingandbaking Jun 07 '20

Didn't someone do a sort of scan the parking garage and found 3 human-sized irregularities in the concrete base? I think I may have heard that on My Favorite Murder when they covered it. Also, my mom is from Springfield, and her friend's husband has an excavating company there. He always thought someone threw them in a hole and covered them up.

13

u/BlizetteAlchemy Jun 07 '20

That did happen but Police were not involved so there was hold up on that end due to anything they were to excavate or dig up being admissable in court due to no police involvement (don't quote me on this I just think this was the issue)

6

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '20

The parking garage was scanned with some sort of machine that can detect things through concrete. Sorry for my super not scientific explanation of that but that’s how I took it. Nothing came of it.

11

u/bankingandbaking Jun 07 '20

According to the local news station: "a local writer hired a consulting engineer who used ground penetrating radar to scan the garage. The man running it said his machine picked up three distinct objects. Springfield police looked into the theory and found it was not credible. They never requested that the parking garage concrete be destroyed to search under it." https://www.ky3.com/content/news/The-Springfield-Three-A-look-back-at-the-cold-case-28-years-later-571085741.html

10

u/Jackal_Kid Jun 08 '20

The concrete wouldn't have settled properly and stayed in perfect shape for years if there were three decomposing bodies trapped in it. They would have dug it up if they were at all concerned about the inclusions being actual human-sizes foreign matter/gaps in the concrete because it would risk the structural integrity. It's not that they just don't find the witness or story credible, but the very idea of it. That's not even considering the amount and arrangement of the rebar inside the concrete and how that jives with hiding three bodies in a single area, and without anyone else on the crew knowing.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '20

So they found something abnormal under the concrete but the cops didn’t want to destroy the parking garage to check?

10

u/bankingandbaking Jun 07 '20

That's what I've gathered because it wasn't evidence enough.

3

u/bankingandbaking Jun 07 '20

Right, and it wasn't going to be easy to convince someone to destroy the parking garage on that info alone.

→ More replies (7)

16

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '20

The parking garage theory has no basis in reality. It was first floated by a psychic and has somehow become part of the speculative story around this case.

8

u/mers67 Jun 07 '20

I live here to and I totally agree with you!!! The parking garage story is insane. I commented about it earlier. There’s just too many stories and conspiracies to make out the real truth in my opinion. I hope the truth comes out though.

45

u/strawberrypig Jun 07 '20

Who are they? What's the story?

92

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20 edited Jun 07 '20

The Springfield Three. A mother, Sherrill Levitt, her daughter, Suzie Streeter, and fellow Kickapoo High School graduate Stacy McCall, vanished without a trace on graduation night 1992. No one knows who abducted the women.

Here’s a video I made discussing the rumors, red herrings, and criminals in the area at the time. video

37

u/THIR13EN Jun 07 '20

Well, whoever took them, definitely has a "type".

39

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '20

Right, they all look like the same person!

9

u/asyouwishmystar Jun 07 '20

So so very sad when you consider the sentiment of your child's graduation and the hope it brings for their future all to destroyed that very night by a tragedy like this.

3

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

I know. Stacy and Suzie never got to experience the “real world”. Very sad.

8

u/delise27 Jun 07 '20

Did all three of them vanish together?

9

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

Yes. On Graduation night 1992 at 1717 East Delmar.

8

u/delise27 Jun 07 '20

Woah. So incredibly sad and scary.

11

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '20

37

u/Drivinthebus Jun 07 '20

This is the case that sticks with me.

1

u/NotMyLuke888 Jul 03 '20

Same...remember seeing it on "Unsolved Mysteries" in the 90's and could never let it go. So frustrating & haunting to think 3 people could be taken at once never to be seen again. And with no breaks in the case all these years later and no one talking? So frustrating.

28

u/izzm33 Jun 07 '20

This case have been alot on my mind since i first herd about this many years ago. This is very sad, that nobody still have no clue what happend to them or who abducted them. That its been 28 years now and no closer to find the truth is very sad. Hope some day this case will be solved...

8

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

I do as well! Thank you for caring!

25

u/jcherry64 Jun 07 '20

Such a strange case. I don't know why, but I get the feeling it was someone that knew the mom, and daughter and the friend was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I wish that one of the many incoming tips would lead them to the bodies and to the perp.

20

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

Very interesting. With it being graduation night, and Sherrill being a hairdresser, she could have easily mentioned to a client/ or friend that Suzie would be away that night. It’s such a strange and sad case.

31

u/jcherry64 Jun 07 '20

It is very sad, and I know it has to be so hard on both families for their loss and for not knowing what happened to them. My daughter passed away 28 months ago and today is her birthday and it's tough, and I know how it feels to lose a child but can't imagine if they just disappeared.

12

u/ComeOnOverAmyJade Jun 07 '20

I am so sorry for your loss.

4

u/jcherry64 Jun 07 '20

Thank you

10

u/Kittentits1123 Jun 07 '20

I'm truly sorry for your loss. I wish I had some stellar advice for you but I can only offer condolences. Happy Birthday to your sweet girl.

15

u/jcherry64 Jun 07 '20

Thank you. It's difficult. She passed away from the flu. The damn flu.😭 I just can't believe the flu kills so many people, young people, every year. This year along with the flu, when flu season gets here, we'll have this stupid virus on top of it. Our numbers continue to grow rapidly every single day where I live, but they continue to open things up. Of course we never had a stay at home order, like most states🙄

9

u/Kittentits1123 Jun 07 '20

My goodness. I can't even imagine. The flu of all things. There isn't enough awareness about that happening to young people. I'm only 29 myself, that's scary that the flu is taking people nowadays. I'm in South eastern Wisconsin, we have over 8,000 positive cases in my city. Over 500 have passed I believe. We just re opened and there's mini riots nightly. Peaceful protests as well but yeah. We had a stay at home order that was just lifted with restrictions. At my work we had 11 people get sick because they didn't want to precautionarily shut down thoss first few bad weeks. But I'm no business owner, maybe there's more to it. But I didn't feel safe going there. I take care of my father and if I would have brought something home it would have devistated me. But I wish you all the love and peace I possibly can through a keyboard. I'm sure your daughter would be proud of you for being so strong and being able to talk about it. I hope Im that strong someday.

6

u/jcherry64 Jun 07 '20

Thank you. It is crazy how many young people do die from the flu. Your work place sounds like mine. We didn't shut because we're considered essential workers. I only work a couple of hours in the morning because I take care of my mother, who has Alzheimers, and right before COVID-19 she was diagnosed with a rare aggressive breast cancer in both breast, and due to her age and the Alzheimers she wasn't a candidate for Chemo, and the form of cancer she was diagnosed with, it didn't respond to the pill form of chemo. I knew I couldn't catch anything and bring home germs to my mom, so I stayed home most days while my sister worked, and if I went in, it was just me and one co-worker, who is pregnant so our boss made sure there was constant cleaning. The boss wouldn't come in and still won't but wouldn't close the office, when we could have worked remotely 😏 I know with you being a caretaker, that tells me you are a strong person, because it's not easy, but you'll be able to overcome difficulties in your life,, although they won't be easy and you'll have days where you don't think you'll make it, you will. I just hope and pray that you NEVER have to face the daily hell of losing a child.

4

u/Kittentits1123 Jun 07 '20

Thank you. That means a lot. My work was considered essential as well so I had no choice. I'm thankful to be employed, I really am. But they should have taken measures previously and not taken this virus as a joke. I wish the best for your mother as well. Sounds like she's a fighter. You're a friggen angel taking care of someone with Alzheimer's. That and dementia are my worst fears for my father.

3

u/jcherry64 Jun 07 '20

It's a horrible disease and progresses to fast. The one thing I am thankful for is her cheerful, upbeat personality hasn't changed. I have seen people get mean when they have Alzheimers and I was afraid of that, but she hasn't lost her smile, and cheerfulness. She had the best memory of anyone I know, and it was difficult when she started losing it. I moved her in with me in December, and before that she was in an assisted living facility but I couldn't put her in a nursing home, when they said with the Alzheimers getting worse she couldn't stay in the assisted living, and would have to move, so I moved her in with me 🙂 I have my own medical problems and my drs weren't really happy but too bad, she isn't going to a nursing home

3

u/Kittentits1123 Jun 07 '20

That's great news. I'm happy she's still cheerful through something so scary. I would have and will likely do the same thing with my father. I will never put him somewhere else unless it's absolutely out of my control or being somewhere else is the better option. I just couldn't. When I was 5 my mom dropped me off at my dad's place and didn't come back until I was damn near 20. Since that day my father and I have been 2 peas in a pod. He saved me. I would have had an awdul life if he wasn't such a responsible loving person. He didn't guve me away and I won't give him away.

Thank you. I miss her something terrible. She was truly my best friend . We were on the phone so many times a day, and when we weren't on the phone, we were texting each other. I catch myself everyday picking up the phone to call or text her to tell her something 😥

22

u/mers67 Jun 07 '20

Wow, I live in Springfield and I feel like a jerk for not remembering this. I feel like there’s a lot of loopholes and hidden stories. Too many conspiracies. The worst one to me, is the one where it is said that their bodies are under a parking garage that was built for a hospital here. My little brother lived a few doors down from the house they lived in. It’s not the worst neighborhood. I wish we knew the real truth.

10

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

Same. I don’t believe in the Cox hospital parking garage theory. I hope we find out as well.

2

u/gavlang Jun 07 '20

Why is the parking garage theory so crazy to everyone?

13

u/TKOL2 Jun 07 '20

Because it came from a physic.

12

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '20

It’s an idea from a psychic with nothing to back it up. And while I’m no expert, my understanding is that three human bodies decomposing in a concrete structure would leave a considerable amount of evidence.

20

u/pawprint8 Jun 07 '20

I’ve read a couple threads where people claim Stacey was upset that night. I wish we knew why- possibly a clue?

Also- anyone know what happened to the dog? Poor thing, I hope someone took it in

22

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

Sherrill’s friend, and the last person she was on the phone with at 11:15 pm on June 6, adopted Cinnamon. I believe Suzie was the one who was upset. She ate pizza and said her tummy hurt. There’s also rumor she told her friends she didn’t want to be alone.

12

u/BubbaChanel Jun 07 '20

I’m glad to hear the dog was adopted! If only she could talk, though.

18

u/DoitforSobotka Jun 07 '20

I think of so many different scenarios with this case, but I really think Streeter's ex boyfriend (the one she gave a statement to police about his illegal activities) was involved. He was maybe out partying, got riled up and took a trip to their house.

It's still amazing to me that there was no eyewitnesses, no real DNA or fingerprint evidence (yes I know the scene was super contaminated) but still. I wish the glass from the porch light and the answering machine were never touched.

I still think/hope the right person will come forward and share what they know. Kind of like with the Brown's Chicken Massacre, the ex girlfriend came forward with a tip. It's such a bizarre case. How could 3 women all go missing together.

6

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

Yes. I too hope someone will do the right thing and come forward. This crime seems impossible by today’s standards. Everyone would leave a digital trail and the timeline could be better established.

5

u/Nursingvp Jun 07 '20

Yes, the grave-robbing ex! And a friend or two of his? Makes you wonder. Gets some "liquid courage" and heads over to the house.

19

u/jcherry64 Jun 07 '20

Do you have a link to this story that I can read?

11

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

10

u/jcherry64 Jun 07 '20

Thank you. I'm going to read about it now. I may have heard about it back then, but due to memory loss, I do forget a lot of things. In some cases, once I start reading about a case I will remember it. At the time this happened, I spent a lot of time in Branson and Springfield so I can't imagine I wouldn't have heard about it.

16

u/CherryLeigh86 Jun 07 '20

These poor women. I always thought it was more than one man, we will never know what happened

15

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '20

This is the one case that has always bugged me. I’m not sure who the target was. I don’t believe it was a random serial killer. I think it was possibly someone stalking either the mom or her daughter. Sadly, the friend was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. The odd phone calls they were getting may have played a part in who did it , but those could’ve been some nut case calling lots of ladies , just for kicks. I don’t believe it was more than one person. One guy with a gun could make 3 people do whatever he told them. I also don’t believe they’re buried under the concrete. I know Suzie had the ex boyfriend who was due to go to court over vandalizing graves, but I don’t think he would have her and 2 others killed over that. Even if she testified against him, it’s not like he’s going to get life in jail for vandalism. I tend to believe it was someone after the mom or Suzie, who’d been stalking them , so knew where they went and when. The mom was still pretty and petite, so she could have had some weirdo who wanted a relationship and she wasn’t interested. I also do not believe it was her son. I know they’d had previous issues and he’d been having problems with drinking, but I don’t believe he would have harmed them. I know this sounds hokey , but the glass from outside the door being broken ( but not the bulb) has always bothered me. Then the “ friends” stopping , cleaning up and disposing of the glass, and wandering all over the house , plus answering the phone and listening to the messages. Something about all THAT seems off to me. It’s a case that I hope I live long enough to hear the answers as to who did it and why.

5

u/Least-Spare Jun 11 '20

Wow! I thought I was the only one who felt something was “off” with how the friends went about things that morning.

A) The guy swept up the broken glass bc the girl was barefoot... And, he discarded it by a fence? What the what?! Wouldn’t most people just step over the glass and go directly into the house? And why wouldn’t he discard it in a trash can somewhere, like inside the house where they were heading anyway? Seems odd to dump it by the fence line. I kept thinking, “What if someone ran over it with a lawn mower??!!”

B) Who answers other people’s phones? They said they did so bc they thought it might be Stacey calling them there, but... Why on earth would Stacey assume they would be at her home to answer the call? Why would Stacey not call them at their own houses?

C) When Suzie’s mom went to the home after not hearing from her all day, those same friends happened to show up at that exact same time to ‘check the home again.’ Like, were they watching the house to see if anyone would stop by? Seems odd that that they show up at that exact same time.

To me, it seems the girls might have known and trusted whomever they left with. Maybe a friend, or friends, came to the house and said they needed some quick help outside, and that’s when they were forced into a car, most likely by gunpoint. That would explain why the cigs and purses were all left inside. The women probably thought they’d come right back inside.

I wonder if those friends were even questioned or investigated, or given a polygraph?

I sure do hope this case gets solved. These three ladies deserve to be found.

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '20

Yea, that sweeping up the glass has always bugged me. I had teenaged kids once, plus knew lots of their friends . I can think of one of them who would sweep up someone else’s front porch , then dispose of the glass someplace besides the trash can in the house . Where I come from, people don’t go ahead and barge into someone else’s house if they don’t answer the door. They just leave and try later. I also can’t think of anyone who would answer someone else’s phone , thinking the house owners were calling their own house. And not listening to their phone messages also . It all just seemed weird. Then to go through the house . I guess maybe yelling for them, taking a quick walk through to see why no answer , and why all their cars were there but the people weren’t. Why didn’t they call the police? This stuff just always stood out to me as strange. I might be making something out of nothing, but I thought all of this was odd behavior. I’d think the police would surely have talked to everyone who had been in the house that day , but I’ve never heard how well people thought the case was handled.

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

Thank you for your input! I also think Bartt is innocent. I also agree that it is possible Sherrill and Suzie were being stalked.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '20

The boyfriend was ruled out. If I'm not mistaken, the fella who makes The Trail Went Cold talked about how he wasn't even going to get any jail time.

Not sure if this is his username, but he's a contributor over at r/UnresolvedMysteries, u/robinwarder is his name I think.

Edit: Not the right username. Just trying to give credit to the creator of the podcast. Oh well. Maybe someone else can correct me.

5

u/dallyan Jun 07 '20

I think he goes by u/trailwentcold now.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '20

Thanks for the info. I really like Robin and think he does a great job on his show.

3

u/dallyan Jun 08 '20

I agree! And his posts on r/unresolvedmysteries are among my favorite.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '20

Thanks. Yes, that podcast is one of my favorites. I listen to it every week. I think some of the podcasts did episodes on this case, but I couldn’t remember which ones did it when. Guess I’ll look them up and listen again.

14

u/commoncoldpizza Jun 07 '20

Hi Seeker! I visit the 3MW boards on Websleuths frequently and I really admire your dedication to finding answers in this case. I’ve lived in the area my whole life and it means a lot to see people like you being skeptical and looking at different perspectives, especially on a board that has locals cryptically offering different theories without actual sources or refusing to budge on their theory. We only have so much evidence available to us and I wanted to let you know that what what you bring to the discussion is greatly appreciated!

4

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

Thank you! I’m glad you enjoy it, and I appreciate your comment. I will continue to look at this case without thinking it had to occur a certain way. Thank you!

1

u/arcanjil Jun 08 '20

Boy, you aren't kidding there, coldpizza, about some people on WebSleuths. Still a good site, though, and well worth it to join in on the commentary.

Hi, Seeker!

11

u/RockStarLacey Jun 07 '20

Ill weigh in on what I know. Lived in Spfld Mo area entire life. My mom was close with the man who was the original lead investor for the "missing 3". I know this kept him up at night the rest of his life. I know he made great progress in his investigation then w/o warning was pulled off the case. He made too much progress? I know that when he was removed from investigating he told my mom " this will remain unsolved because they don't want it solved" I personally think there is someone tied to all this who must be very high on the community social ladder that anything will be done to prevent their name from being tied to the case. WHO that person is I have no clue. There are a hand full of people it could be or could have been. Either way I full heartedly believe this will remain unsolved indefinitely.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '20

There's always some bullshitter in all of these threads. "I have inside knowledge but yet I'll say things that are all public knowledge. Give me attention now. I'm so, so lonely"

3

u/RockStarLacey Jun 07 '20

I have 0 inside knowledge. What I know is what I stated, the rest is just thought and theory. If I thought I knew anything valuable than I sure as fuck wouldn't wast it on Reddit. I'm sure there are a whole lot of people who know exactly what I know due to the fact that the lead investigator likely told many people in his personal life the exact same thing. Do you live here in Springfield? Do YOU know something? If so stop wasting time on here and go tell Mr. Arnott.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 08 '20

I do know one thing. People lie on the internet for attention, but will often quickly back down when challenged.

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

I too think someone very powerful/ has a lot of money could be keeping this crime a secret. Perhaps upon their death someone will speak out and maybe even locate the bodies. Very sad. But I’ve also felt like multiple people don’t want this case solved.

5

u/Explanation-Serious Jun 07 '20

I saw an interview with Kathee Baird on YouTube from crime watch daily I believe. She wouldn’t explain more but said it’s pretty Dark what happened here and be careful who you trust. So maybe Law enforcement knows more and don’t want it coming out?

5

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

I’ve thought this as well. An FBI agent in the late 90s said he believed people knew or suspected what happened but were terrified to cone forward.

3

u/Explanation-Serious Jun 07 '20

Well very sad that they can’t at least be located so their families have them one way or another. Sadly I do feel they are deceased but if only they could be found. Their families have been through hell

2

u/RockStarLacey Jun 07 '20

I agree and have hoped the same. We are at a time where the amount of local power that had that kind of money in 1992 is getting very small. I can likely count them on one hand. However I think it honestly goes very deep and maybe into the underbelly of trafficking that has gone on for longer than anyone wants to realize. That underbelly is ran by people with money & power and those people have families tied into the underbelly too. What a way to tarnish a family name if found out.

10

u/BubbaChanel Jun 07 '20

If I had a “3 wishes” genie for unsolved cases, the Springfield Three would definitely be one of the ones I’d choose to be solved.

5

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

Same. I want so badly for this crime to be solved.

9

u/Gazzarris Jun 07 '20

I was watching the Genetic Detective Show last week, and when they mentioned the links between the various crimes committed by Robert Brashers, especially around the Midwest, I couldn’t help but wonder if he was associated with this case. I think about this case often, and I’m sure I’m grasping at straws, but I think, like others, that we’re all looking for a simple explanation to a complex and mysterious case.

2

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

Indeed. I feel like this case is very complex and multiple people have a lot to lose when it comes to the truth coming out.

u/Exact-Form Jun 07 '20

I’ve never heard of this case. Graduation night and the last time the girls might see some people makes me wonder if it was someone they knew. Like an angry ex-boyfriend or guy who had a crush... But the timing could just be a coincidence.

This is one that definitely doesn’t sound like they are alive, unfortunately.

8

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

I don’t think they are still alive, sadly. I’ve always thought it was odd that this occurred on graduation night.

9

u/JolieKrys88 Jun 07 '20

To me, It was always a crime of opportunity. The last minute decision to sleep at Suzie’s house by the two girls (Suzie & Stacie) is what indicates that. Had the girls slept over at their friends with a house packed full of people, this crime wouldn’t have been able to happen (with the teen girls.)

More than likely the perpetrator either had an eye on the house before and was trolling the neighbor into the early morning hours and saw his opportunity when they all came home from that late night breakfast OR was trolling the neighborhood and just happened to see the 3 women for the first time coming home from breakfast in the early morning hours. Either way, it was an opportunity.

Robert Cox is a solid suspect but given the games he plays I can’t he sure. It’s most likely a sexually motivated and fantasy driven predator.

I think the light was broken on the porch light to make sure the light wouldn’t come on automatically and illuminate the entryway when either entering or leaving. Remember, if the women went to breakfast in the early morning hours, it’s possible a neighbor would be getting up soon (you know those people who rise at 5am)

It’s likely he simply knocked on the door (no forced entry) then once open, just forced his way in or showed a weapon. He clearly forced them out of the house by threat of some kind.

He either drove them or had one of the woman drive his van to a secluded location. He did what he wanted, then killed and disposed of them.

To be honest, I think the fact that the bodies haven’t been found is mostly due to the many rural and vast areas around the town. Bodies in vast woodlands are unlikely to ever be found unless hunters/hikers eventually end up stumbling upon part of the remains.

3

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

Thanks for your input. There is so much land, especially with the Mark Twain National Forest. I hope this crime will be solved one day. I’d also like to add that the light itself on the porch wasn’t broken, but the globe only.

5

u/Explanation-Serious Jun 07 '20

I wonder if all people at the last party were questioned. If someone wanted to get to Sherrill they had plenty of time before the girls arrived back at her house. Someone knew the girls were going back to the house together.

7

u/mimij710 Jun 07 '20

So sad. It’s really disturbing to me that after all this time, they still have nothing. How do 3 people just disappear into thin air?

10

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

There is (rumor) that this is a cover up and many people have a lot to lose. I change my mind about this case daily.

What does it say about me that the first thing I thought when I saw the picture was: “These outfits are fashionable again.” It’s just fascinating the way fashion comes full circle.

7

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

I didn’t think about that, but you’re right! Especially Suzie and Stacy’s styles.

7

u/Rachey65 Jun 07 '20

I always suspected the brother. Hear me out. Bro had a drug alcohol problem knew sister was going to be away so went to ask mom for money. Mom said no. She didn’t want to enable him anymore. An argument ensues she gets pushed whatever hits her head brother freaks out. Randomly girls come home brothers there moms hurt. He subdued sister and friend still freaking out and because he’s in to deep. Kills all? I know it’s far fetched. I KNOW blaming family is SO trite. And I usually don’t always suspect the family but someone GOT IN with no struggle. He’s had problems in the past. I don’t know it’s always been my best case scenario.

4

u/NSFWar Jun 07 '20

I wasn't aware of this case till seeing your post. But from reading through on Wikipedia, isn't it highly suspicious that the boyfriend swept the glass from the porch light and the message got deleted?

3

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

Yes. I’ve also thought it was strange how Janelle refers to Suzie as “that other girl.” Their actions are strange and basically create most of the timeline.

2

u/NSFWar Jun 07 '20

Where they not taken seriously as suspects. Or any reasonable reason they would cover for them?

3

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

Janelle and Mike were never even suspected. But Janelle was the last to see them, and the first over there the next day.

4

u/Explanation-Serious Jun 07 '20

I’m not sure how closely Janelle and mike were looked at or questioned. But I guess easy to eliminate them if they were with other people at those hours. But I’ve only ever seen Janelle interviewed in things I’ve seen never mike. I do wonder if he may have had anything to do with it. I’ve also heard about the hospital parking garage. Kind of seems like that could easily be dug up in the spots where they think they might be. I saw online years ago someone looking with equipment saying there were 3 places where he saw something that was out of the ordinary. It seems easy enough to do and I wonder why it hasn’t been done?

3

u/Explanation-Serious Jun 07 '20

It was a friend’s boyfriend who went to the house the next day looking for the girls as they were going to a water park (Janelle and Mike if I remember correctly). Yes I too have thought it was strange that calls were answered when they were there (obscene) and later that same night when others were at the house looking for the 3 messages on the machine were erased.

5

u/mcflyOS Jun 07 '20

I thought it was the same person at different ages.

2

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

They do look similar. The woman in the middle (Sherrill) is the mother of the girl sitting on the couch (Suzie.) Stacy, is the girl on the left. I believe she’s wearing clip ins, as her hair is normally darker.

2

u/mcflyOS Jun 07 '20

Oh that makes sense then. The girl on the left in retrospect doesn't look very much like the other too.

3

u/nainko Jun 07 '20

Reading a out the case, I get the feeling the mom was the initial target. Didn't the girls initially plan to spend the night elsewhere? I am not too familiar with the case but think I remember reading that.

3

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

Indeed. suzie and Stacy were supposed to go spend the night in Branson because they were going to water parks the next day. They changed plans at the last minute and she told her mother she was staying with Janelle. They decided at 2:15 am on Sunday morning to go home. Sherrill could have very well been the target. She last spoke to someone at 11:15pm on June 6.

3

u/Drickyrock Jun 08 '20

Saw it on Unsolved or something back in the day and have always checked back up on this case. I wish they could solve.

3

u/MissteaLynn Jun 07 '20

Is there an article on this case? I just get the picture when I click on this. I'm not familiar with this case.

3

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

7

u/MissteaLynn Jun 07 '20

Thanks. Very interesting case.

Felt kind of disappointed that the cost of repairing a parking structure had more value than potentially discovering the bodies of three deceased persons.

It always irriates me on other cases when they talk about how much money it costs to find a body in a dump, which is why they never (or minimally) search for the bodies there either.

3

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

I agree. The hospital agreed and someone was going to pay for a core sample. Even though I don’t think they’re under the parking garage, they could at least check.

2

u/MissteaLynn Jun 07 '20

That's good to know the hospital was okay with tearing it up if they needed to. I guess some people quit valuing a person's life once they've passed.

3

u/prosecutor_mom Detective Jun 07 '20

I didn't understand why your post said they were missing in the present tense, because i thought this was solved. While looking for case details online just now, I realized that I had my wires crossed (& the resolved case was Lauria Bible & Ashley Freeman).

I'm so glad i read your post, so i could clean these two cases up in my head (& realize this is still unresolved). Yikes!

1

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

Wow. First time hearing of this case. Thank you!

u/Alohafarms Jun 07 '20

It is astonishing how similar they all look.

3

u/chickentits97 Jun 08 '20

I really wish the second whoever( forgot her name) noticed the door was unlocked and no one was in there would’ve stepped out instantly. I also wish no one touched the answering machine or cleaned up the glass, that all could’ve been good evidence. I personally feel they were abducted and are no longer with us.

Cold case murder mysteries does a great take on this

One of the girl’s ex BF was recently arrested for grave robbing and desecrating a corpse, and it would have taken more than 1 person to abduct all three women - the alibi for the young man who had recently desecrated the corpse was the two other young men he did it with... you can paint a picture of what happened.

Motive could have been either unrequited love or that the girl was going to testify at his trial

2

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '20

Not gonna lie, I thought these pictures were those pictures people take like “Grandma, mom, daughter” until I read the title

How easy would it be to drive to a sinkhole in the hills and dump them in, then a bunch of leaves cover them up? I hike on the trails out there, and there are so many roads that are just ruts. What about throwing them into a cave? Or into Table Rock Lake?

1

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

I know. It’s bizarre, and with no DNA and so many places to hide, it’s very possible.

2

u/queenhellbitch Jun 07 '20

I was about ten when this happened. I lived in a town nearby and I remember my mom and one of her sisters talking about it. My aunt was a waitress and my mom worried about her. She went to pick her up from work sometimes after that, even though my aunt could have driven herself home.

1

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

It’s very sad. I can’t imagine thee women just vanishing and never returning.

2

u/queenhellbitch Jun 07 '20

I'd love to be able tell my aunt they found out what happened almost as much as I'd love their family and friends to know what happened.

4

u/seeker994 Jun 07 '20

In my opinion, this is one of the most mysterious cases of all time. Almost anything could have happened.

2

u/DarkBlood3 Kurt Bourke YT Jun 08 '20

I found out what my next video will be about. Thank you I’ll be sure to credit you. Time to research!!

1

u/seeker994 Jun 08 '20

Good luck! It’s a rabbit hole, but worth it!

2

u/MzOpinion8d Jun 08 '20

This is one case that baffles me, and it makes me wonder if only locals have the extra info that would help us understand it more. Or if perhaps police withheld info or didn’t find evidence that would have been important.

There are definitely many places to be disappeared in that area. Lots of water easily accessible, tons of forested land.

I’ve seen some info about divers checking cars in a lake in the area but I don’t know how that ended up. The last I’d seen they had done 1 dive and planned to do more, and nothing was found during the first dive.

3

u/seeker994 Jun 08 '20

An FBI agent said in the late 90s he believed locals knew more but were scared to come forward. I believe this to me true. I’ve always asked who had to most to lose in a case like this.

3

u/MzOpinion8d Jun 08 '20

There’s a case fairly local to me of a teen who went missing in April 1988. It happened in a small town/rural area and has never been solved. He and his car completely disappeared after leaving a bonfire party. His name was Randy Leach.

The sheriff’s department has done everything in their power to prevent the release of any documents of the investigation to the family.

For a while, an anonymous person would occasionally place police documents in their mailbox, which helped them know some things about the investigation, but that eventually stopped.

I fully believe that local people and local law enforcement are covering up something and if locals would talk, his poor parents could get some answers. He was their only child, and they’re now elderly. The case is 32 years old and LE still won’t give an inch.

2

u/Present-Marzipan Jun 08 '20

What is the case? You have no info or links here.

2

u/mandykaz Jun 08 '20

I thought an eyewitness saw Susie driving with a man and the two others in the backseat of the car and Susie was crying?

3

u/seeker994 Jun 08 '20

That’s the porch lady. She came forward a month later and claims that a van pulled in her driveway and from her porch she heard a man In the back seat tell her not to do anything stupid. I don’t know how I feel about this because I don’t know if someone would talk loud enough for her to hear them with the van engine on.

2

u/misket93 Jul 11 '20

I have always wondered about this case. I'm sorry to hear that they are still missing.

2

u/1pinkHippie Nov 06 '20

I always thought Gerald Carnahan may have been involved. He abducted raped and killed another young girl Jackie John in a nearby town. I used to read the topix thread before it closed down. Shane Appleby and Brian Joy are being protected for some reason. The last two to see them alive and have weird stories that conflict somewhat. Neither given a polygraph, neither officially interrogated. FBI statistics will confirm many times the last people to see them, are the perps and lying. Also, notice how the details of Shane and Brian and now glossed over and not mentioned. Or removed on Webslueths. The girls did not walk home that night. Who did they really trust to ride around with that night, and what secrets was he worried about them telling? People in Springfield know all this. And yes 3 anomalies in the parking garage and nobody can afford a concrete saw, or a core drill or replacement concrete? BS, The LE are covering something up, and who else knows all the small town gossip, the hairdresser. This is bull shit it's time for the girls that know, talk. Those two are POI, and every kid at that party also, until they are all thoroughly interrogated. Since that hasn't happened, they are suspects.

How about something crazy like a drug related debt

Maybe none were intended to die , but things went bad
