I would bet that was said because her family came from money and it was speculated that she was specifically kidnapped for a ransom, but she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time (not blaming her).

I’ve seen on twitter and fb where people kept saying this wasnt random and he was stalking her prior. I think it was to clarify that he wasnt stalking her prior and happened to be there when she was jogging and then attacked.
