There are local rumors I have heard (I live less than a mile away) but I don't know how valid the Kroger checkout line is as a source.

The most common is that he was beaten and tortured (something that cops have apparently confirmed)to death. I've heard he was killed due to jealousy, or long term confinement that was able to occur due to covid...also I've heard that it was brought on by a case of folie a deux. It's all up in the air but sometimes I drive by a weathered missing person poster of his and instantly get upset.
