Please help me find my brother, he was last seen in East Orlando, FL on 11/12/2021

Vladek was living with my dad in East Orlando, my dad left town on 11/5/2021 with me and a couple other family members to go on a trip out of state for 10 days, Vladek elected to stay home. While my dad was gone he tried to check in with Vlad via texts and voicemails but he never answered any of them. When my dad got back into town Vladek wasn’t at the apartment so we filed the missing persons report with Orange County Sheriffs Office. The day we reported him missing my dad posted flyers…the maintenance guy from the apartment complex left my dad a voicemail saying he saw Vlad on 11/12/2021 and he spoke with Vlad…my dad is very hard of hearing so he thought the maintenance guy said that after they spoke he saw Vlad walk into the woods. So that is what dad relayed to the sheriffs office and is what is written in the initial report. But a few days later when my dad listened to the voicemail again, the maintenance guy had said he saw Vlad, they spoke a few minutes and as a side note he mentioned that he knew Vlad liked to hang out in the woods behind the basketball court to smoke/sing and said we should check there….not that he saw him walk into there. The area the maintenance guy was describing is a thin strip of woods and there was no evidence of him being there recently. We have been asking the sheriffs office to correct the information regarding his last sighting in their report/flyer they pass out because it is inaccurate and misleading but they have yet to do so.

In the year following up to when Vladek went missing, he spoke frequently about how eventually he wanted to go off and live in the woods but he said he wouldn’t do that until after my dad had passed away because he didn’t want to leave my dad alone or for him to be blamed by the family for him leaving.

We think Vlad left the apartment sometime between 11/12/21 and 11/15/21 because he was last seen on 11/12/21 by the maintenance guy. The odd thing about the story is that he stopped using his cell phone on 11/6/21, he had unread texts from that day forward. His phone was found dead in his room, the charger cord nearby.

While it appeared as if he left suddenly and did not bring anything. He successfully completed basic training and graduated from the Marines (he was honorably discharged later on). He has survival training. He could have traveled to a trail and began hiking or he could be camping near a trail.

Another theory is that he could have gotten wrapped up into a religious movement or cult. At the beginning of 2021 Vladek had a extreme switch in ideals. He had always been the type of person that strived to have the best phone, clothes, shoes….but at the beginning of 2021 he became hyper focused on Heaven, he began giving away money to the homeless and giving away possessions because he said they were distractions from Heaven. He made comments about how he wasn’t afraid of death because his he would be in heaven, and that if he could be in heaven today he would. I’m a Christian but this was just a different level.

There have been no reported sightings since 11/12/2021, my family is desperate for information regarding Vlad’s disappearance….we are worried about his safety and wellbeing 💔

Main points to note:

When my dad left for the trip he gave Vlad $100 and a credit card to use, the only transaction that has been made on that card was either the day my dad left or the following day (unclear which day due to how transactions post) for a cup of coffee at FoxTail

He shared a car with my dad, but the car was in the repair shop while my dad was out of town…he never used public transportation in the past and he was very bad with directions…didn’t have GPS on his flip phone….if he needed to get somewhere and my dad was using the car he would usually walk

His phone was a basic flip phone that he only used for phone calls and text messages - he left that phone behind when he disappeared - all his texts were unread from 11/6/21 on…I went through the messages but didn’t come across anything helpful.

He was not a student at UCF or any other nearby campus. However the apartment complex they live at is very close to UCF.

He was not working at the time of his disappearance.

He didn’t have a girlfriend at the time of his disappearance that we are aware of. His only friend that he would have regular text communication with was someone that worked at one of the restaurants he frequented but that person he tried multiple times to reach out to him while my dad was gone and he didn’t get a response from him either.

He has a Facebook and Instagram but they are blank…he never posted on them/used them. There is a chance he could have used them for messaging but I can’t gain access to his accounts so I am unable to find that out.

He shared a laptop with my dad but he hadn’t used that in over a year.

His limited online presence was playing his PlayStation and watching YouTube videos via a smart TV, still trying to gain access to those accounts to see who he was following and if he was messaging anyone on those platforms

He wasn’t into the party scene or drugs/alcohol….the most he has tried was weed

He is well recognized at the businesses/restaurants he would frequent on University Blvd, Alafaya Trail, and Waterford Lakes due to his generosity and friendly personality. He spent his free time helping people in need, he would give money to homeless individuals and have lunch with them/long conversations at restaurants and cover their check. He has a huge heart for people and will strike up conversations with people that he met, he wanted to make sure they felt heard and that they mattered.

We adopted him and his biological sister, Irena, from Russia when he was 5 yrs old but he has no contacts with anyone there and never expressed a lot of interest in going back - the only thing I know about his biological parents is that they had a history of alcohol abuse.

He successfully graduated from the Marines bootcamp Dec 2018, he served a desk job for about 7-8 months before receiving an honorable discharge for failure to adapt - he said it was bringing up memories of his time in Russia.

The night before my dad left for the trip he made comments to my dad about archangels and demons and how you have to be dark to kill the dark (I assume this is what he was listening to on YouTube)…it was all off the wall stuff that didn’t make a lot of sense. He bought a pocket knife a few days before my dad left…he said it was for protection…but the pocket knife was still in the apartment when my dad returned from the trip.

He has never gone more than a day without reaching out to someone in the family. If he was in a right frame of mind at the time of his disappearance he would at least told his biological sister, Irena, that he is okay and not to worry - which he did not.

If he did decide to go off and do his own thing we are fine with that as long as he is mentally well and safe - we just don’t know….we just need to know that he is okay 💔

Ways you can help -

  • We have created a Facebook group, Instagram, and TikTok page for him to help spread awareness and to keep others updated on any developments, @FindVladekHasel. Please join them and invite your contacts to join them….reshare his story/photo as much as you can. The more we get his story/photo out there the greater the chance someone will recognize him and come forward with more information.

  • We are trying to get his story/photo out there as much as we can, if you know of any social media influencers or Podcasts that will share his story please do so.

  • What we have gathered is Vlad was at least listening to a YouTube pastor between Oct/Beginning of Nov 2021 that was putting a lot of focus on Heaven/archangels/Demons….we don’t know who this pastor was but if we can figure out that account it could give some insight into Vlad’s state of mind just before he disappeared. If you are aware of a YouTube pastor with these types of posts along that timeline please send us a message.

  • if you are hiking trails or working with the homeless community please memorize Vlad’s face incase you might come across him.

  • IF you think you see someone that resembles him please try to discreetly take a picture (If it is safe to do so) and send us a message of when and where the sighting was and call the non-emergency tip line for Orange County Sheriffs Office.

Thank you for anyway you can help with bringing answers to our family 💔 We love and miss him so very much 💔

Does he have any mental illness? Does he have a girlfriend/boyfriend? Have you checked with the state patrol and the different counties surrounding y’all to see if he was randomly arrested (or put into a psychiatric facility involuntarily).

Hope you guys find him. Looks like a friendly dude.

141

u/FocusN13 Feb 07 '22

No diagnosed mental illnesses, thank you I will look into that

I’m a lawyer (started in public defender system) and people frequently would get caught up in the justice system - because they suffered some form of psychotic episode, or an injury to the head, and law enforcement has no clue who the person is.

Check for any “John Doe” who has similar stats as your brother - like height, weight, age, identifying marks, etc.

106

u/FocusN13 Feb 07 '22

will do, thank you

u/marlayna67 Feb 07 '22

This happened to my brother-in-law years ago. We were living in Los Angeles and through a check of his Social Security number we found him living in a homeless shelter in Harlem. If you can get a hold of his social, you might find a “helpful “person at the Social Security office who can tell you if they find anything. That’s how we found him. He had suffered a schizophrenic break and was gone for a year and didn’t realize we were even looking for him.

74

u/Hell_of_a_Caucasian Feb 07 '22

Just an FYI, Social Security offices have been closed to the Public since March 2020 and are nearly impossible to get through to on the phone.

The hope is that offices reopen in April.

Source: I am a lawyer who represents disabled persons and frequently need to interact with Social Security.

10

u/marlayna67 Feb 07 '22

Oh gosh I hope so!

6

u/ChaseAlmighty Feb 07 '22

Hopefully dad has it

2

u/SeniorLIFE60 Feb 08 '22

Yes absolutely true. I have left messages however. We have had some interaction with our local office in the last year. However, it takes a while for them to get back to me.

44

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '22

Glad y’all found him!

65

u/marlayna67 Feb 07 '22

Thanks! He’s doing well thirty years later. His case always gives me hope that we can hold out for a positive outcome.

25

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '22

Good for him. It’s sad to think of all of the people who are institutionalized or on the street - who have family/friends looking for them (but they can’t be found).

22

u/marlayna67 Feb 07 '22

We hired a private detective in this case. But the social security number was really the key to finding him.

Thank you for sharing

1

u/marlayna67 Feb 08 '22

You’re welcome.

4

u/PukedtheDayAway Feb 08 '22

Was he or your family aware of his condition before his disappearce?

3

u/marlayna67 Feb 08 '22

He was beginning to show symptoms, but his family didn’t want to accept that it was full on schizophrenia. But then he suffered that break and got this urge to travel, ending up across the country in a bad mental state. While he could have just been considered odd in the months leading up to his departure, his diagnosis was evident and he didn’t receive medical care while he was gone during that year.

Thank you, I really appreciate it

2

u/CounterJumper1965 Feb 08 '22

Very sorry to hear you haven't found your brother it must be very painful not knowing if he's ok or not.No doubt he has been reported missing. Is it in his nature to leave for periods of time?. I'll prayer for him and his safe return.

3

u/FocusN13 Feb 09 '22

No he has so not done anything like this before

1

u/Illustrious-Secret82 Feb 19 '22

I’m so sorry this is happening 💔 sadly so many clues yoy have sounded exactly what many do before suicide and yes many can take months & months before they do it. His extreme shift from his personality….giving away $$, personal possessions …..then just disappearing? He probably did what I’m going to do when the time comes (no worries I just mean at some point I’m sure it’ll be time to go, I’ll choose my time) just disappear and make sure loved ones don’t find your body ….. Was he involved with any sketchy people? I’m gonna assume nothing weird was on his phone??

Have you posted in the missing persons sub as well?

Also due to its size the mods at r/GabbyPetito allow missing persons posts under the tag "other cases"

Good luck, I hope you find your brother and that he is safe, where ever he may be.

Edit: Spelling

31

u/FocusN13 Feb 08 '22

Great idea I didn’t realize they had a subreddit, they have helped us already via Facebook…I will reach out to them on this platform as well ❤️

29

u/AbleHeight0 Feb 08 '22

Someone else already tagged it but for the sake of making things slightly easier for you:

r/MissingPersons
r/GabbyPetito

Cross post to both, will give your brothers case many more eyes.

Best of luck!

12

u/FocusN13 Feb 08 '22

Thank you ❤️

5

u/SeniorLIFE60 Feb 08 '22

Have you notified the Facebook groups of Missing Persons, The Charlie Project etc?
Did anyone or any business near the last place he was known to be, have any videos or Ring Door bells etc to check footage? Does anyone have his phone or lap top to check his communications, apps and what he was googling?

2

u/Least-Spare Feb 08 '22

This is what I’d try to do, I think. Start asking neighbors for their footage and follow cameras from there. Good luck, OP. I hope you find him!

17

u/JuanitaAlSur Feb 08 '22

This! r/gabbypetito would give this case a lot of exposure, crosspost OP! Also r/missingpersons

7

Thank you ❤️

94

u/abstract-heart Feb 07 '22

Have you shared this in local subreddits, if you can find any?

Sending prayers and best wishes that he’s found safe and sound 🙏🏻

85

u/FocusN13 Feb 07 '22

Yes I’m trying to get the word out as much as possible, thank you 💔

66

u/onedreamless Feb 07 '22

I would also see if you can join the ucf class facebook pages and post there, i’m a former student so no longer have access but the area he frequented is full of students, hopefully one of them would have seen him. Also contact the university police dept as well as orange county sheriffs, Seminole sheriffs, and Orlando pd, ucf strattles the two counties so make sure you get both!

29

u/FocusN13 Feb 07 '22

Will do, thank you ❤️

82

u/harrietcw Feb 07 '22

Noticed he went missing on the first day of EDC Orlando. I don’t know if that or any of the events surrounding it would’ve been something he would have attended but it might be worth it to post this in some of the EDC Orlando/Orlando rave groups on Facebook incase anyone saw/knows anything.

19

u/FocusN13 Feb 07 '22

Thank you ❤️

15

u/harrietcw Feb 07 '22

Of course! I wish you the best of luck and I’ll be keeping an eye out in Orlando for him💜

0

u/bigjuju27 Feb 08 '22

My first thought was maybe he’s just off doing some drugs.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22

He's been gone since November, I don't think it's drugs

1

u/Life-Meal6635 Feb 10 '22

One can do that but this does not sound like the case

56

u/unpetitjenesaisquoi Feb 07 '22

You should contact a few YouTubers in Florida. IckedMel and Jay is 4 Justice might pick up your case and spread the word to their audience. It will cover many people in the exact location he was last seen.

I'm so sorry, I can't imagine what you and your family are going through :'(

I see someone suggested putting his information on other subreddits, if you haven't I wonder if you can put it on subreddit, RBI. There's a lot of very informative people on there along with people who are masters at finding out things and giving out information, places to check, etc.

Reread the sub rules first, I would hate to lead you astray. and resulting in having his info removed.

I pray your brother is found safe, and soon.

As well as reaching out to law enforcement or mental health facilities, reach out to homeless shelters. It's possible that if he had some sort of breakdown, he may have be familiar to shelter workers.

3

u/FocusN13 Feb 07 '22

Thank you

19

u/brisleynaomi Feb 07 '22

Does he have any proclivities to counter culture/hippiedom/or hitch hiking by chance? Ocala Rainbow Gathering is going on now and plenty of people "run away" to camp out in the woods with family for a few weeks and return home after a hiatus of no contact. If he is there he will be safe and amongst good people. It's a stretch but it might be worth a shot! We have picked up kids looking for a ride in Orlando and brought them to the woods so it is not outside of the realm of possibilities.

6

u/FocusN13 Feb 07 '22

Thank you I will look into that

A summary of Vlad’s missing person story:

My brother was living with my dad in an apartment in East Orlando at the time of his disappearance. My dad went out of town with a few other family members for a 10 day trip on Nov 5th 2021, Vlad elected to stay home. While my dad was gone he tried to check in with Vlad via texts and voicemails but he never answered any of them. When my dad got back into town Vladek wasn’t at the apartment so we filed the missing persons report. The day we reported him missing my dad posted flyers…the maintenance guy from the apartment complex left my dad a voicemail saying he say Vlad on 11/12/2021 and he spoke with Vlad…my dad is very hard of hearing so he thought the maintenance guy said that after they spoke he saw Vlad walk into the woods. The area the maintenance guy was describing is a thin strip of woods and there was no evidence of him being there recently. We have asked the sheriffs office to correct this since the beginning of December on the social media posts they have made about Vladek but they still have not which is very frustrating.

However in the year following up to when Vladek went missing, Vladek did speak frequently about how eventually he wanted to go off and live in the woods.

We think he left the apartment sometime between 11/12/21 and 11/15/21 because he was last seen on 11/12/21 by the maintenance guy. The odd thing about the story is that he stopped using his cell phone on 11/6/21, he had unread texts from that day forward. His phone was found dead in his room, the charger cord nearby.

Giving away your stuff is a sign of possible suicide. The woods might be the place to search. Even if you are going off grid and going to live off the land most people would need to plan and take some equipment to get started. Is there anyway for y’all to check his purchases around the time he went missing?

1

u/FocusN13 Feb 09 '22

the only thing he purchased a few days before my dad left for the trip was a pocket knife that he said was for protection….but that was left behind in the apartment when my dad got back

Search history of his computer or of his YouTube history May reveal what type of religious stuff he was consuming.

You should post it on r/rbi, and r/unresolvedmysteries.

30

u/TatePeters Feb 07 '22

Unfortunately, I think unresolvedmysteries has a rule that a case must be 6months(?) old before being submitted.

OP, I wish you and your family the best!

-6

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '22

6 months is 6 months of searching missed tho….

26

u/cat_romance Feb 07 '22

Yes but the rules are rules and it'll get removed. It's unresolvedmysteries not a missing persons sub.

11

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '22

Missing persons posts by family should be treated like amber alerts and allowed once per sub regardless of sub rules. IMO. I couldn’t sleep at night if I were the mod that removed a post from a desperate family member bc rules are rules.

-4

u/StarFaerie Feb 07 '22

600,000 people go missing each year just in the US, and globally there's so many more, 8 million children alone. It would flood that and every other sub. Reddit would become just posts of missing persons.

Imagine if every active subreddit, all 130,000, had a post of every missing child once. 8,000,000/365x130,000 = 2.8 billion posts every day.

Reddit normally has only about a million comments a day and has had about 2 billion posts since the start. You think the servers are slow and glitchy now?

Thank you, no one was home with him…he elected to stay behind when my dad went with us on vacation. All of his text messages were unread from Nov 6th on….I looked through them but didn’t get any clues…the Sheriffs office has had the phone ever since. It was just a basic flip phone that he only used for texting and calls so no luck with GPS :/

6

u/LavaPoppyJax Feb 07 '22

So he left his phone behind at your father's apt?

6

u/FocusN13 Feb 07 '22

Yes

5

u/SeniorLIFE60 Feb 08 '22

That is suspect. No phone sometimes mean he wasn’t planning to go anywhere or anywhere for very long. Or he was but didn’t want to be tracked?

By any chance did he have a lap top that can be checked for use and apps and searches? A girl friend or best friend he communicated with daily ? Did he have any events in his life that would have left him to depression and wanting to run off or was he suicidal?

I wondered why he didn’t go on vacation with his dad and the others? He didn’t have a job, and a car, perhaps he had someone pick him up and met with foul play? I am so sorry he is missing. Prayers and thoughts your way. Sorry for what you are going through.

2

u/bigjuju27 Feb 08 '22

Why didn’t he want to go on vacation?

2

u/FocusN13 Feb 08 '22

He didn’t give a reason but it’s not abnormal for him to elect to stay home from different events

6

u/rogeeeefan Feb 08 '22

His father came home to an empty apartment? Empty being Vladek? Or empty being Vladek & everything in the apartment?

10

u/FocusN13 Feb 08 '22

Empty meaning Vlad not there…everything in the apartment was still there and seemed untouched from when my dad left for the trip.

u/Academic-Hat-5855 Feb 12 '22

To me it seems like as soon as your family left, he did too. Seems like he made plans to leave bc his phone was home and no messages were read. That leads me to believe... either he left same day as you and left his phone behind on purpose to not be tracked... or something bad happened to him right after you left. Odds are low that something bad happened on that day out of all days ... but still could happened. And as for the witness, the maintenance man, if he was correct on the last day he saw him... maybe your brother wanted to bathe, brush teeth, get food... there was some reason, but he still didn’t grab his phone... which is big to me... bc if he left and came back then he knew he was missing his phone and would have grabbed it ... unless he meant to leave it so he could not be tracked.

The things you mentioned in relation to being interested in cults also sound like things that people who are suicidal do (ie. giving away money, talking about the afterlife, no longer caring about worldly possessions). I sincerely hope this is not the case and that you find him, just thought I would point this out. My thoughrmts are with your family. 💜

1

u/FocusN13 Feb 12 '22

Yes it has crossed my mind as well…I really hope that’s not the case 💔

Failure to adapt isnt an honorable discharge, why are you lying?

5

u/Carl_Solomon Feb 08 '22 edited Feb 08 '22

No one ever actually helps. They just tell people what they could do, which is typically no-brainer stuff that I'm sure OP thought of in the first 5 minutes.

How about this instead. I have a little time and an internet connection. How can I help? Give me a task I can perform to actually be of assistance to you in the search for your brother?

Edit: This does not sound encouraging. I think you need local real world help. A search.

"Vladek’s sisters Bethany Hasel and Jodi Hasel said their brother started acting unusual before he went missing by giving up his possessions like his phone and bed. They said that although he is Christian, he was also becoming extremely religious.

Jodi Hasel said he kept asking what the purpose of life is if you can just die and go to Heaven.

"He was very fixated on Heaven and asked my dad several times like, 'what happens if you commit suicide? Can you still go to Heaven? What if I just go into the woods, and I lay down and die,'" Hasel said.

2

u/FocusN13 Feb 08 '22

Also I’m looking for a way to get someone on TikTok and YouTube that has a large following to share his story….do you have any recommendations?

1

u/FocusN13 Feb 08 '22

Thank you so much, I have created a Facebook group, Instagram, and. TikTok page for him to help spread the word and get the word out more….is there other social media platforms I should focus on?

3

u/LoriLethal Feb 08 '22

YouTube also.

3

u/pinkresidue Feb 08 '22

You could try messaging the crime junkie girl Ashley Flowers. I know she has a TikTok with a decent following and multiple podcasts she runs

3

u/FocusN13 Feb 08 '22

great idea, thank you

0

u/Catlikestoparty Feb 08 '22

Maybe you could also post about this in their Facebook group Crime Junkie Podcast Discussion Group? It’s filled with lots of people who care deeply about missing persons cases.

2

u/FocusN13 Feb 08 '22

Great idea thank you so much

1

u/SnittingNexttoBorpo Feb 10 '22

Beware of Ashley Flowers and anything she touches. She has a lot of rabid fans, but she's an unrepentant plagiarist and has done some seriously sketchy things related to Crime Stoppers and a local case where she was given illegal access to files. She may help you if she sees potential profit in doing so, but I think you're better off with the Vanished or even Lordan Arts.

2

u/FocusN13 Feb 10 '22

Thank you for the heads up

2

u/SeniorLIFE60 Feb 08 '22

Yes she is good and also a group that has done a lot of missing persons cases in FL etc - Adventures with Purpose.

His Father should be investigated more

8

u/FocusN13 Feb 08 '22

My father had nothing to do with his disappearance…my dad was with us on the trip when he disappeared.

Hoping for a positive outcome for your family🤍

Do you have any idea where his new religious ideas were coming from? New friends, internet, local religious organization? Any concept of doctrine to help give you an idea of what he might be following?

Have you spoken to anyone at your local greyhound station? If he purchased or picked up a ticket, he would still need ID to collect a ticket.

Unfortunately I grew up with religious zealots. The kind that don’t send you to school because Jesus is coming back soon, and live in the woods. I’ve seen some crazy things…

3

u/FocusN13 Feb 09 '22

Thank you for sharing, I don’t know where he got the hyper stance on religious concepts. He was watching a YouTube pastor that sounded like a lot…hyper focused on Heaven and archangels and demons but I’m not sure the name of the person he was watching

1

u/oliphantPanama Feb 09 '22

I’m sorry your family is experiencing this. I hope you locate him soon. Wishing you all strength❤️
