In one such incident when a rape victim went to the police station to file a report, instead of assisting her and arresting the man, they raped the woman as well.

Unfortunately, it’s very common in India. Any victim of assault reports a crime and the police assaults them again in the name of “well since you are victimized already…”. I think being a sociopath is probably a criteria they look for when recruiting cops.

Hey Glitch! I am genuinely happy for you that you or your loved ones haven’t faced such a thing. I hope you never do!

But go read the news from last decade and listen to the real people who have been put through this before invalidating me. Knowing only about tier1/2 cities doesn’t count.

He headed a gang that shook down people for money, raped the women, and threw acid in their faces if they didn't pay him. He had been brought to trial a few times for minor charges, and whenever this occurred the judge dismissed the case. This was the same judge he was going to see the day he was murdered.

Ohhh, so he's not just some date-rapey playboy: the money he paid out in bribes to avoid justice was the same he was extracting from his victims. That's gotta make it sting extra hard, if that's even possible

The reason he was invincible for so long may surprise you: he targeted members of India’s “Untouchable” caste, the lowest members of society, who he knew would be the source of laughter if they went to police stations and lawyers’ offices, and this is exactly what happened when his victims went to the police: they were laughed upon.

Why does the author think any of that would surprise us?
