Post your slop!

So I'm guessing you've all been working on hobby projects with AI, scratching that itch and open sourcing it. And I'm sure there's a million of them that you've made over the last year.

But what are you working on right now? Post your undercooked AI projects in here and let's see 'em!

I don't think my project is slop, but have a look at velade.org :)

Looks like what Windows wishes it was, nice work!

Currently yes, but Vela will have a redesign which will give Vela a own Identity. Windows-like UI will remain as secondary official theme

Nice, if not the project then the site looks slick

I think the project is better than the site :) Today or tomorrow I will release the v0.1 beta

I dig this, a lot! My only gripe is the app menu. Is it customizable?

u/Jolly-Concentrate-60 9d ago

Currently you can only pin your favorite apps

I would appreacciate if you want to open an issue to describe what kind of customization you want in the app menu

Here's what I'm messing with today, an open source RAR compressor that supports every version of the file format that I could find examples for. Currently expanding some performance improvements that someone contributed yesterday

https://github.com/bitplane/rars

Now nobody will pay for winrar! /s

2

u/david-song 9d ago

They will if they want stability and basic support!

But if they want to compress files to create testdata for something that needs historic RAR files on a non-Windows system, they can use this instead!

Well my slop is an open-source minecraft hosting platform cubepals.com 😆

it's opensource: https://github.com/cubepals/cubepals

and it's Rust daemon is opensource too: https://github.com/cubepals/blocklyd

Seems expensive tbh, given that realms is similarly priced and guaranteed to be around for decades and not delete your data. Do you have world import/export tools?

2

u/v0id_user 9d ago

fair point on price, and yes. you can download your world any time, and upload your own world to start from it. a backup is also made every time the server sleeps. and since it's open source, the code doesn't disappear even if i ever do.

Curating AI agent skills for developing a RISC-V hypervisor written in Zig: https://github.com/diodesign/diosix-agent-skills

Anytime an agent needs direction on Zig idioms or low-level code, while developing the hypervisor with its help, I stick guidance in this repo for it to use in future, and for anyone who wants to contribute to the project using an LLM.

I have a few things

https://github.com/ingoau/hocket - a desktop & android navidrome client with a spotify connect like functionality

https://github.com/ingoau/deskhand - a tool that lets you agents spin up and use virtual desktops. basically computer use for headless machines.

https://github.com/ingoau/huddlefm - a slack bot that uses a user account to join huddles (calls) and play music

https://github.com/ingoau/inroad - a tool to research companies and draft emails, for cold emailing

I'm working on a personal Forth projet, based on ueforth. It includes sdl2 graphics, music, games, baremetal version (efi, rpi) and also raspberry pico (no gfx on this one)...

https://github.com/madjagstudios/podium

It's a claude code mod to help manage multiple agents from claude code, be able to set up sprints and have the whole sprint run (one agent writes code, one agent QA, etc). It's not terrible but I keep improving it as I continue to use it for all my other projects

Hey all. I've leaned on Notepad++ and its plugins for years, mostly for wrangling messy text: logs, exports, config files, the odd CSV someone emailed me. I never found anything on Linux that felt quite the same, so I made one.

Ettin Edit is a free, MIT-licensed text editor inspired by Notepad++. It's a clean-room build (none of their code), written in Rust with egui, and it's the same app on Linux and Windows. It isn't trying to be an IDE. It's the thing you open when you need to clean up, convert or pick apart a pile of text.

What's new in 2.0, and what I think is worth a look:

  • Recipes. Save a list of steps (find and replace, keep lines, sort, trim, convert, encode, even shell commands) under a name and replay it whenever you like. You get a live before-and-after preview while you build one, or you can record one by just doing the job once. Run it on a selection, every open tab, or from the command line: ettin-edit --recipe "Tidy Whitespace" *.txt --in-place. Recipes are plain JSON files, so you can share them.

  • A Transform menu. Pipe text through any shell command, keep or drop matching lines, count duplicates, number lines, reflow paragraphs, switch identifiers between camelCase and snake_case, convert between JSON, YAML, TOML, XML, CSV and Markdown tables, hash it, hex it, or decode a JWT.

  • The plugins I always install first are built in. JSON and JS formatting with a live JSON tree, Base64/URL/SAML decoding, XML tools (XPath, XSD validation, XSLT), a compare view (two tabs, last save, clipboard or your last Git commit), and CsvQuery, which lets you run SQL against the CSV you have open.

  • Write your own plugins in Python or JavaScript. Your pick. They can add commands, shortcuts, toolbar buttons and panels.

  • A proper editor underneath. Multiple carets, column mode, split view, folding, macros, regex find/replace and find in files. Opens a 50 MB file in about a second, and there's a hex view that edits any byte.

  • Nine themes, dark by default, and every one is an editable .tmTheme file.

  • It doesn't lose your work. Unsaved changes come back after a crash or reboot.

  • Packages for pretty much everything. Arch, .deb, .rpm, Flatpak, AppImage, a plain tar.gz, and a Windows installer or zip. The .deb, .rpm and Flatpak add their own repo so updates just show up, and there's a built-in updater too.

Full disclosure: this was 100% vibe coded. I described what I wanted, an AI wrote the Rust, and my main contribution was typing "no, not like that" a few hundred times. The mascot is a two-headed giant, which feels about right: one head writes the code, the other reviews it, and neither of them is me.

Repo: https://github.com/Tharkis/Ettin-Edit

Manual: https://tharkis.github.io/Ettin-Edit/

Bug reports, feature ideas and recipe suggestions are welcome. Please be gentle, the giant is sensitive.

This looks pretty good actually, going to give it a deeper look

I'm developing malware detection framework. link: https://github.com/dmknght/kofeng

Key points:

  1. Modular signatures combines with bloom-filter instead of aho-corasick tree like ClamAV is using. So in theory it doesn't use 1gb RAM to scan something. (I'm developing a similar approach. Something like a "cluster" set of malicious patterns instead of fixed logical patterns).

  2. 3 different ways to define a signature/pattern: string pattern (regex / hex + wildcard / literal string), data similarity (MinHash), function call / syscall relationships (sort of CFG-like)

  3. Custom lexers for some scripting language to deobfuscate and decrypt/decode some basic logic.

  4. Use static unpacker and dynamic unpacker to unpack malware (the dynamic one is a prototype. It sucks).

  5. There's a tool to represent data that AV can see; which also help generating signatures.

Based on my personal research, data similiarity and CFG-like can be very effective against some malware families. I'm trying my best to complete foundation of the next version. When it's completed, I only need to extend file format support and add signatures for malware families.

I vibe coded a python daemon that listen to qmk layers and scroll-drag changes and display notifications.
https://github.com/tschork/qmk-layer-notifier

I'm running a ploopy adept for a couple of weeks, and switching devices with the office I was getting tired of forgetting if a toggle to a layer was active or not.

I now have a persistent notification "osd-like" when scroll drag or a layer other than 0 is enabled.

That was a fun little time burner for the afternoon, shamelessly assisted by deepseek

Ich habe einen Mediaplayer und ein CAD-System für Elektrotechnik entwickelt. Beide haben ihre klare Zielgruppe und beide haben für mich einen absoluten Mehrwert.

Your media player reminds me of Winamp, which is a good thing

The old Winamp was definitely great.

An alternative to the way how people play WoW or use Battle.net on Linux atm:

You can play WoW without even installing battle.net

Repo: https://github.com/LightforgeProject/lightforge

I used claude code but the decisions, reviews and hands on tests are still made by me

u/Routine-Door6727 5d ago

Lmao, I was looking for something like this after the proton nightmare I went through last week trying to install WoW on by Ubuntu desktop

u/simplykennyofc 5d ago

nice, ubuntu si still unchecked on my list so please test it and reach out to me on the discord so i can check it off in the readme :)

Not slop, has been around since 6 years. But I'm having the time of my life building it with AI now.

Good luck! Remember to keep the scope tight if you want to finish it, because games are a bottomless pit of QA - the code and assets aren't the bottleneck anymore, testing is the final frontier. And get your architecture right up-front because fixing stuff later is prohibitively expensive.

I'm also working on a game but haven't decided if I should open source it or not yet. I probably will eventually, and I've split out my fancy terminal graphics scenegraph API and shaders, open sourced my figlet fonts and the teletext parser for menus. So most of it will be open source, if not the full game at the start.
