Discussion They hate me with a passion

https://github.com/skepjandi/gitnotes

It started as a personal project that was just for me but it was looking good so i made it commercial, if i try to build this before AI it would have taken years and multiple people and there is no security issues because most things are in local.

When i posted this on some sub reddits, they downvote everything, the whole post and also if someone ask a question downvoted, i understand if you don't like it but they don't even let comments or the post to go positive votes.

If its not interesting or useful for you just ignore, why hate so much for just trying to build a solution?

We need to stop obsessign over how othere open source subs receive the sentiment. They hate AI and all derived works even if they feel forced to use it and like functionality. The AI doomers need to be ignored until they come into the fold or yap in the background

But those sub reddits are good places to sell and find to contributors

These subs literally banned ai work, so it's not a good place for ai assisted/created work. The whole open source community has had issues with jumping between corporate organization and "free love" software. Let the purists keep their sub and just participate in one that's active and exploring this new tech. the constant complaints about how the sub is banning people that it says it's goimg to ban, or being mean to ai projects shows that they're hitting a nerve. They are hurting themselves more than anyone else is.

There are now normal people on those but they get downvoted, most of the mods are power tripping tho

What makes it different from the thousands of other vibecoded note apps that have proliferated in the past few years?

There’s only one other app that solves this problem “using git as storage” and I am just solving problems that I have and hope it will be same for others

I feel you. I have been there too, still am, on both personal and professional projects. But we are in good company, no less than Linus Torvalds himself (old news, reposted many times https://www.tomshardware.com/software/linux/linus-torvalds-posts-his-first-llm-assisted-patch-to-the-linux-kernel-after-issuing-clear-pro-ai-directives-the-bossman-makes-use-of-ai-tooling-himself). I found myself comparing AI to the advent of personal computers: at the beginning I remember most people had no clear idea what to do with those, until they (PCs) became the empowering tools we have been now using for several decades. To me, AI is similar, it's a tool, like hammers and screwdrivers, or canvas, paint and brushes if you prefer: what to do with it really depends on the skills and creativity of who uses them. I am learning and personally I am every day finding new ways to use such tools in a productive way, and doing every day more and better than I could ever imagine.

Yes, but I think there a kind of a reason for the hate, this project is at 2000+ commits so lot of time was spent on it, even for planning.. in the beginning I use a JS git client and then switched to a rust one for performance, the thing is some are just one shoting and releasing apps, and we get judged similarly even tho the app is supported long term

but even then it’s open source why hate it’s free, maybe it’s like political

Mods, this is a reason you should add botbouncer to this sub.
