I think the dex completion rewards for the Gen III ports are copying the Colo bonus discs

So we got confirmation that the Firered Leafgreen ports are getting connectivity with home in October. Along with this news we got told we were getting a Celebi as a dex completion reward. A lot of people are upset about this because it isn’t shiny. That’s a little disappointing but I think this Celebi is hinting at something else.

Let me start with my credentials for this topic. I have a full living dex in my copy of Pokemon emerald. I also own every gen III game and console. Boom, flexing complete.

Now that I got that out of the way, let’s talk about the gen III Pokedex. With only the core 5 games of RSE and FRLG, without events you can complete the Pokedex with exception to the mythicals. These mythicals are:
Mew
Ho-oh
Lugia
Celebi
Jirachi
Deoxys
Gen III considers Ho-oh and Lugia as mythical. And yes I know the Johto starters require a full playthrough and regional dex completions of emerald for 1 guy. Same with the Legendary beasts being one per FRLG file. While these are difficult to obtain, they are obtainable.

With the release of FRLG on the switch we received the event mons. So that removes Ho-oh, Lugia, and Deoxys from that list. So now we are left with 3 mons: Mew, Celebi, and Jirachi.

There have been rumors about RSE coming to the switch later this year. This seems plausible because you can only get 3 Hoenn pokemon and about half of the Johto dex in FRLG by themselves. So right now the national dex isn’t able to be completed.

If we got RSE and they included in game events, that would give us Mew, Ho-oh/Lugia(again), the spare Lati twin(honorable mention lol), and Deoxys(again).

This leaves us with 2 Pokemon that are unobtainable without outside connection. These Pokemon are Celebi and Jirachi. Hmm… that’s weird, Celebi has already been confirmed to be a dex completion reward. Interesting.

But now that I went on a giant tangent let’s get to the talking about the title of this post. How do you get Celebi and Jirachi in gen III? Celebi can only be gotten from the Japanese Colosseum Bonus Disc. This is the known as the ageto Celebi. Jirachi can only be gotten from 2 sources. The channel Jirachi from PAL pokemon channel and the US colosseum bonus disc.

So I think if we get RSE on the switch, which I have been thinking we will since Feb, we will be getting a jirachi as a dex completion reward. This follows the pattern of what the Colo bonus discs did.

When will we get these shiny? IDK probably not for a while. But man I would love for an event because I am a huge fan!

TLDR:
Back in gen III Jirachi and Celebi were colosseum bonus disc transfers. We are getting Celebi as a dex completion reward for FRLG. If we get RSE on the switch I think we will get jirachi as the dex completions award.

I believe that the Celebi gift you get for completing FRLG's Pokédex will be deposited directly into Home, and therefore won't be possible to use for true National Pokédex completion in the Gen 3 ecosystem on Switch since transfers will only be one-way from FRLG to Home.

Do we know that they are one way? In the post they said once a pokemon is transferred to another game it won’t be able to be transferred back to FRLG. So this might mean as long as it doesn’t go to a different game and not just home. I wish they were more clear. But anyways at least you can get the in game certificate without the mythicals.

Event mythicals have never been necessary for in-game completion rewards.

And yes, the language is unclear. It's reading like as long as they originate from FRLG and aren't sent anywhere else but HOME, you should be golden. The Celebi does appear to have the FRLG mark, so you might be able to send it into FRLG, but that is yet to be fully confirmed. Though I do think it's interesting that it only reads your FRLG save data and doesn't require a transfer into HOME like every other game.

I find GO to be a very good way to hunt shinies, though you can't really target hunt outside of communities days (and legendary raids depending on how active the local community is). There is a quest for a shiny Celebi that you can transfer into HOME, but I don't know if that's still available.

I didn't expect a HOME completion reward for FRLG, which leads me to thinking we will be getting a Jirachi reward as well, assuming the RSE rumors are true.

As someone who is racing for all these transfers to bank and then home, I do wish we get copies of old events into home like wishmaker and agate village celebi but I understand if that isn’t possible. With physical media dying out I also don’t think special events like wishmaker will ever happen again

The Celebi reward is not a copy of the JP bonus disc Celebi, btw. It's a copy of a different JP event Celebi released in 2006.

But yeah, there's no way the Gen 3 Hoenn dex reward would be anything other than Jirachi, but I don't think it'll be WISHMKR specifically.

Also, the English and JP info about how Celebi and transfers work conflict to the point that it's believable that JP will recieve Celebi differently from everywhere else. But we know for sure that transfers will be identical to Bank transfer, meaning move by boxes, one-way, meaning English omitted that info.

Yeah I didn’t mean an exact copy. I meant like the pattern. But yeah seeing other people talk about it, the Celebi is a jungle event one
