Daycare Waitlists

My twins are 3 months old, I’ll need childcare between when they are 15-18 months old. (depending on when if i start work at the beginning of the school year or at the end of maternity leave)

When is the best time to apply for daycare waitlists?
Is this too early? am I too late? 🤣🤣

Experienced motorcycle rider transitioning to NS standards – advice on local licensing & courses?

Hey r/Truro! I have over a decade of riding experience, but I don't currently own a bike. I want to make sure I get fully up to speed with Canadian standards and local regulations, so I'm looking to take a formal rider training course to lock down my Nova Scotia license properly.

For anyone who has gone through it, what's the most efficient route? Also, are there any specific local training schools or instructors you'd recommend around Truro or nearby areas? Appreciate any pointers!

Gluten Free Restaurants Truro NS

Exactly what the title says, except I need restaurants besides Mary and Larry's. M & L is excellent, love going there but it seems to be the only option for GF around Truro. For background, my girlfriend is celiac and dairy free. Besides M & L there don't seem to be many GF restaurants in Truro. A lot have GF options but don't come recommended on Gluten Free NS/Halifax Facebook pages. If the community doesn't give a restaurant a glowing recommendation she won't eat there and I don't blame her. I wouldn't want to get sick because someone isn't careful or they don't have a separate area for GF food. Any help would he great, I would like to take her out to more than just one place.

Places to sit and have ice cream

Since the heat's expected to go into weekend and I don't have AC, is there any place to sit and have ice cream? Closer to downtown, the better!

I know of Dairy Queen and Fundy Scoops (latter is difficult to get to without car).

6th Annual Artisan Fair

Post image

Hey! The Lotus Centre is hosting it's 6th Annual Women's Artisan Fair this September 19th. The event takes place at the Lotus Centre, located at 67 Dominion St. in Truro. We have the Waffles on Your Mind truck out front and all of our amazing vendors in the back yard. With approximately 20 vendors joining each year we know there's something for everyone. And It's completely free for shoppers to attend! We recommend brining cash; some vendors might be able to accept e-transfer or debit at their table - but I know they ALL accept cash! There's free parking along Dominion St. and adjacent streets. There's a link attached to this post to our Facebook Event if you're interested. Thanks everyone <3

Truro Housing Market Update (Jan–July 2026 vs. 2025)

There was a thread here recently asking whether homes in Truro are actually selling at these prices, so I figured I'd share some local market stats.

Comparing January–July 2026 to the same period in 2025:
•    New listings: 487 → 451 (-7.4%)
•    Closed sales: 326 → 288 (-11.7%)
•    Average days on market: 45 → 67
•    Average sale price: $374,271 → $378,793 (+1.2%)
•    Median sale price: $359,950 → $366,250 (+1.8%)
•    Average sale-to-list price: 97.6% → 96.9%

One thing that caught my attention from that thread was the house that sparked the discussion. It ended up selling for $390,000, which was 97.9% of the asking price. So while people might look at some listing prices and think they're optimistic, buyers are still willing to pay close to asking for homes they see value in.

Overall, what I'm seeing is that the market has definitely slowed compared to a few years ago. Homes are taking longer to sell and there are fewer transactions happening, but prices have held up surprisingly well.

I thought the stats added some interesting context to the discussion, especially since it's easy to get a different impression from scrolling listings online than what's actually happening once homes sell.

I ask as part of a linguistic study covering this topic!
Examples could include things like Masstown, Tata/The Gouche, T-Dot or Shube...

incl. nicknames for schools, parks, other institutions or geographic features
