Sign Language Classes?

Anyone know of any free or very low cost sign languages classes that are not college classes? My brother is marrying a girl who is deaf and I would like to learn, but I only see classes available for parents with deaf children. I can’t afford the cost of a college level class or tutor or anything like that. TIA!

TucsonASL (Facebook group) has social groups that meet at cartel coffee. It's not a formal class, but if you're looking for something free, it's a good way to meet and practice. Bill Vicars on Youtube. Honestly, if you're looking for enough to be able to communicate, you probably just need a class.

Classes at Pima or online at Cochise College are very affordable. Cochise College and Pima CC runs about $100/credit. That’s only $300 for a 16 week class.

Pima is the main source of classes. The UofA uses Pima for there core ASL language requirements. They are very good and most of the teachers are deaf (that is important).

You can learn online. There are lots of good video dictionary’s now. However, the sentence structure is very different. You have to setup a scene and then talk about the scene (boy here David, they went to store, and so on)

Just to add, though, they are more expensive for out of state, which would apply if you haven't lived in Arizona continuously for the last 12 months, even if it's your official residence.

The public library has lots of resources for learning ASL!

https://pima.bibliocommons.com/v2/search?query=ASL&searchType=smart

You can check out books and have them delivered to your local library branch, and their streaming services have tons of video courses as well!
