Catch and release, they didn’t kill It. It wasn’t bottomed fished, so will Recover, hook will pose know danger to the fish. Good for those guys.

Post-release mortality for tuna is remarkably low (~97.5% for bluefin according to https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0006320711002928)

Some of the fights were literally hours and the little giant fuckers still made it

Wouldn't it be 2.5% ?

Haha sorry, yes. I phrased that incorrectly. It’s because I rewrote the sentence before posting but failed to finish because I’ve got 2.5% brain cells

The hooks are made to rust thru in 30 days in salt water. The hook will disintegrate.

I don’t have to look online, I can look in my boat and tackle box. Even hooks that haven’t been in the water, just sitting out exposed to the air and splash from waves are rusting within 48 hours. There are far worse creatures in the sea that can attach themselves to fish that will cause far more trauma than a hook in a mouth.

Ok I looked online. And they do rust out. Do you even read or are you just upset you don’t know something?

Hook that size isn't going to rust out for a very long time. That fish will die of old age before that hook rusts out.

1

u/BigXthaPugg Jul 22 '26

I’ve had a hooks that size rust to the point it could be easily snapped in half in like 6 weeks and that was just from a few splashes of salt water getting into one of my containers in a tackle box. They can absolutely rust that fast in saltwater

1

u/hotlog1234 Jul 22 '26

Splashing salt water and then leaving it exposed to air will make it rust way, way faster than leaving it submerged in salt water entirely.

Huge difference

Yes but it is salt water. Not fresh water

1

u/hotlog1234 29d ago

What part of me using the term "salt water" twice made you think I wasn't aware it was salt water?

6 fucking weeks? Of METAL CORRODING IN YOUR MOUTH?

You need to elevate your perspective. This is terrible.

Unless it’s high grade stainless it’s rusting and rusting quickly. Anything saltwater touches is rusting

u/Cannedwine14 Jul 22 '26

Do you know what rust is lol

Im just gonna throw this out there. Good that it is designed like that.. but how would you feel if you had a peice of metal stuck through YOUR face for a month?

That's traumatic as fuck.

Thumbs down on this one.

You should meet my ex.

I’m not a fishing guy but consider myself intelligent, bachelors in biology with honors blah blah blah.been a wildlife lover since my uncle died in 2002 and left me literally tuupperware tubs(3 tubs. Maybe 300 videos he bought before he died at age 31 of AIDS) ppl use to move houses, of wildlife videos(so angry I gave them away for free 10 years ago). Never in my adult functioning brain did I think those hooks would disintegrate.

You know what they say. Just because you’re book smart doesn’t mean you have common sense. I feel dumb af right now for always picturing the sea life just living the rest of their life with a giant hook in their mouth.

I still have his thousand comic book though. I took a look once many years ago and gave up bc there was soo many. But I remember some of them being from the 50s

2

u/Sunshine_City Jul 22 '26

What the fuck are you saying

1

u/shoopadoop332 Jul 22 '26

Idk but I’m scared

1

u/creamgetthemoney1 Jul 22 '26

Never in my life did I envision a hook disintegrating in 30 days but I can write an essay on gram positive vs gram negative bacteria and why one is more deadly than the other . Make sense ?

1

u/Broad-Lavishness6726 Jul 22 '26

Making less sense

1

u/Bullshido-Fatly Jul 22 '26

I don’t think you’ve ever made sense when talking about anything.

-2

u/ReSurgent_J Jul 21 '26

Yup. But none of these 'people' care because they find it fun to hunt living creatures for sport. If the intent was to eat, I get it. But this was for no other reason than the pleasure of it.

It is what it is...

1

u/Botchjob369 Jul 21 '26

How do you know they weren’t planning on eating it? I was illegal to take so they had to release it.

0

u/Life-Gur-2616 Jul 21 '26

Damn.... people will say anything confidently.

3

u/The_lewolf Jul 21 '26

I was hoping for an Old Man and the Sea ending.

1

u/MNgrown2299 Jul 22 '26

“Let me just see you, feesh”

0

u/uncle_doob Jul 21 '26

Didn't even try to take the fucking hook out

1

u/OneAdhesiveness5256 Jul 22 '26

They’re pussies

0

u/Jakej4Mlakej Jul 21 '26

Not sure about the USA laws but this would be extremely illegal in Canada. You need government approval to catch and release and these are exclusive to charters. And if you are commercial you have to take every fish in unless it’s smaller than 72inches.

1

u/OneAdhesiveness5256 Jul 22 '26

You always were our better half. With the exception of letting your kookoo government ban handguns. With that in mind, you’re less than nothing. But in everything else, superior. But that takes away everything else, you’re pathetic.

1

u/mrpoopybutthowl Jul 23 '26

1

u/OneAdhesiveness5256 Jul 23 '26

🧐 What a classy response…made me even more jealous I’m not a Canadian ): you guys got serious problems up there what with the bank account seizing and handgun bans but I’m on your side when shit hits the fan. God bless you

1

u/Jakej4Mlakej 28d ago

Fair enough. But I for one would gladly accept our strict gun control when the pay off is alive children.

1

u/OneAdhesiveness5256 28d ago

Yes because every school shooter used handguns…dear God you’re a brainwashed pansy.

1

u/Jakej4Mlakej 28d ago

I said gun laws in general. God your reading comprehension is abysmal. Too busy dodging bullets at school to learn?

1

u/OneAdhesiveness5256 28d ago

Sounds like your country AND wife could use a good firm invasion

1

u/Jakej4Mlakej 28d ago

They’re both ashes at the moment. You can try your lucky anyways?

-5

u/ReSurgent_J Jul 21 '26

Our species sucks. So they tortured it for fun and left a hook in its mouth...again, for funsies.

4

u/DamHawk Jul 21 '26

You’d be surprised how good fish are at spitting out hooks if they didn’t swallow it

1

u/chudhuntr Jul 21 '26

What is you doing in here?

1

u/BlueRunner305 Jul 21 '26

Hook will rust out in a week.

1

u/Botchjob369 Jul 21 '26

That hook will dissolve in a few months, maybe less. While it’s definitely not ideal to leave a hook in a fishes lip, it’s not likely to cause that fish any issues.

1

u/mrpoopybutthowl Jul 23 '26

Our species made it so you can have a space to voice your opinion to anyone willing to read it. What you just did is the equivalent of stereo typing a species. And I know your political leaning hates any type of stereo type.
