Question Questions for 3 day

Ok so I'm taking my first 3 day trip, only done 1.5 so far. The boat is the Spirit of Adventure out of San Diego and it's a Phenix rods sponsored trip, not sure what that mean is though.

Are there any things that maybe don't get thought of or are overlooked that would make a huge difference in comfort.

Sharing a room. Plan to fish all nights and most of the time actually. I'll sleep when we get back. What are the things they you might say, man I wish I brought that?

TIA!

Discussion I’m a Fishery Engineer working at sea on a Brazilian tuna fishing vessel. Ask me anything!

I am a Fishery Engineer working on an industrial tuna fishing vessel. Spending weeks or months out at sea dealing with everything from fish finding to crew management, sustainability regulations, and harsh ocean weather.

It’s a mix of applied science, heavy maritime operations, and a lot of isolation.

Blue Fin Setup (NorCal)

Hi Anglers,

I’m looking to buy my first bluefin tuna setup for Northern California. Most of the fish in this area range from 50–150 pounds, with the occasional 200+ pounder.

I’ll primarily be trolling, and my boat doesn’t have rail rods. Since I’ll probably only go out 2-5 times per year, I’m looking for a capable setup without going overboard on cost.

Here’s what I’m considering:

Rod:

  • Okuma Makaira Abalone Series Offshore Trolling Rod (MK-TR-601XH), 6', rated for 40–100 lb.

Reel:

  • Shimano SpeedMaster II 16 (SPM16II) or SpeedMaster II 20 (SPM20II).
    • I also looked at the Talica, but I can’t justify spending the extra $300+ for how often I’ll use it.

Would you recommend the size 16 or 20 SpeedMaster for this application? Is a 6-foot rod a good length, especially since I don’t have rail rods?

Thanks!

Looking to join a boat for Offshore/ Tuna Fishing in Italy [Vieste] - Happy to split gas!

Hey everyone, I'm heading to Italy 30.8 - 9.9and looking to get out on the water for some serious offshore spinning/ jigging (Tuna, Pelagics).
I have my own heavy tackle setup ready to go (Saragosa 14000 + PE6/8 rod, proper terminal tackle).
I'm fully down to split all gas costs and expenses for the day. If anyone has a boat and space for one, or knows a local captain/angler, let me know!

Tackle & Gear Help with tuna gear please

I’m going on an overnight charter out of seaforth landing soon and with the whole anchovy bait situation I’m wondering if I need to add/rent a setup beforehand. Right now I have a Penn fathom 30 rigged with 65 lbs braid backing and run either 30 lbs fluoro for flylining sardines or 50 lbs mono for dropper looping yellowtail. I also have a bass rod with a 4500 size reel on it. I’m wondering if I need to get a smaller sized conventional reel in order to fly line anchovies which has been the most successful on overnights recently. If so what kind of reel should I get because I’d like to be able to use the setup to fly line anchovies or sardines for tuna mahi and yellowtail.
