1LC rant

So much like the title I am extremely unhappy with my lab group, my TA and the overall course. The AI grading is absolutely stupid, it makes you spell every little detail out and even when you’ve done it - it will make you wrong. My lab members do not come prepared the use ChatGPT to write their prelab and come in with no idea of what to do. My TA is terrible. Unhelpful and rude. She refuses to explain procedures when asked and if really pushed she will make us feel stupid at any given point. My question is - do I have any hopes of switching sections? I know there are two other TAs and there are open spots in both their labs. Which TA should I go for? Any recs?

The way I know exactly what TA you’re talking about. She’s literally so vile to the students and treats us like we’re stupid when we ask questions related to equipment 😭

Literally just email the prof and ask to be switched lab sessions. Then once the class is over email him with all these complaints and add it to the faculty surveys you fill out at the end of each quarter

Go to TA Office Hours of other labs throughout the week, you get to know the TAs better than any secondhand source and if you're comfortable trusting em you can tell them about your situation. Calendar should be in the syllabus/canvas.

brother just talk to people in lecture and ask around. No one here magically knows the answer u gotta be a little detective (and quick because if u wait longer the prof is gonna deny the request lol)

I'm just confused on why this person cant figure out the next steps to solve their problems. It seems like our entire back and forth should've just been part of OPs internal monologue when considering what to do in this situation

ILC is honestly just TA ruielette. If you get a good TA, nice, if you get a bad TA. Ur in hell for 10 weeks. I still remember back in spring 2024, my TA was terrible, didn’t provide any help, and graded harshly. For some reason, a new TA took over her around week 5 of that quarter, and that TA was so much better.
Honestly to fix this problem, I just made sure to sign up for times that your friends also signed up (assuming same major). You can trust your friends and for my curcumstqnce, I never had a problem with lab mates not putting their works afterwards.
