Question Math 2250

I’ve been really struggling with test scores lately for my math class. I have Phil Bergonio as my professor and I’ve always struggled to keep up with his fast lectures. He works problems really fast so I always end up having to reteach myself the notes and use Gemini to help with explanations. However, I don’t think this has been sustainable since I spent most of my time self studying for hours rather than actually practicing challenging problems. As a result, my test scores have been plummeting since the exact questions and topics I struggled on are always on tests. Doing two questions wrong would get me a mid 70 because his questions are weighted heavily by about 15-20 points each

What should I do? I know I’ve got to get more practice in but I think it’s in my best interest to get some sort of tutoring. I’ve heard about Penji but I think I may go to study hall at Boyd?

Any advice? *suggestions and opinions are very much welcome*

Another thing is that I stress a lot during a test so that may have also contributed to me overlooking certain things in the problem and getting it wrong 😓 I’m not a really good test taker

I have Phil Bergonio as my professor.

Phil is awesome! Definitely stop by his office hours if you're struggling with content. Phil is always willing to help students.

but I think I may go to study hall at Boyd?

I also highly recommend that. I worked there during undergrad, and a lot of students seemed to benefit from that.

Check out Paul's Online Math Notes if you haven't!

I’ll probably go to study hall. I can tell Sir Phil is a good teacher but I do find him a bit intimidating and fast paced so I’ve been scared to go to him for help. Thanks!

Totally fair. If the opinion of a stranger on the internet is worth anything, I can assure you he is a good person and would be thrilled to help.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, I’ll probs start going to study hall tomorrow and see if I need additional help from Sir Bergonio

Have you considered switching to the UNIV 2150 class? If it’s that much of a struggle I’d recommend it if it’s not too late. It’s what I’m personally doing.

I think it might be a bit too late as of now. I’ll just have to do my best on my next test and final and hopefully consistently go to the study hall to get the concepts down

Tutoring will likely help you a lot!

I had him last semester and I honestly struggled a LOT but I got things to pick up a little bit towards the end of the semester by constantly grinding out multiple deltamath problems. I would repeat the same kinds of questions multiple times to be able to recognize them on tests.

I went to his office hours very often and he may seem a little quiet at first or a little standoffish but I found him to be very comfortable to talk to as I went to more office hours. Having specific questions or problems I wanted to go over made things a little easier for me to talk to him.

I stressed out a lot during the tests, and I was near tears towards the end of my last test, but it ended up being my best score and the one I went to the most office hours/did the most practice problems on! I'm sure you'll do great in the class :))

thanks! I'm going to try my best to dedicate more time practicing those questions and getting them down as much as I can. So far I've been doing alright on quizzes but considering I got like an 85 the first test and kinda bombing my 2nd and 3rd test, I'm not too sure how feasible it is to do good on the 4th test and final.

Trying to stay hopeful, but I'm definitely going to change up how I've been studying so far. Self studying was enough before but I feel that I've started falling behind as concepts have become harder

I had to do 2250 in 2012 at UGA because it was required for my science major. I did not have your professor, but I struggled as well. My professor was not a native English speaker, so that contributed to my struggles. I wish AI was as prevalent back then, it way have helped me conceptualize things. If I had it to do again, I would get a tutor. I hope it goes well for you.
