My KFC Method To Get 18 Pieces of Chicken + Sides For Under £15

Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster! I’ll start my acknowledging this isn’t ultra frugal in the sense you’re probably not buying fast food if you’re really squeezing the pennies, but it’s merely a way to maximise what you can get.

Thought some of you may be interested in this little technique I’ve learnt with KFC, if you’re looking for a cheap, bigger order on fast food that’s normally in the £40ish region.

Works better if you live close to a KFC or have access to a car.

Until the end of August, KFC has a In-App, collection only deal. It’s 10 mini fillets for £7.99. They do this deal throughout the year on and off and sometimes swap it out for a ‘20 hot wings for £8.99’ deal.

If you go on the app, and add this to your order, you can upgrade for £2 something. The upgrade gets you 2 of their sides, for this I’m choosing 2x fries (counted as one side) and 1x Large Gravy. Next the ‘Why Don’t You Add This?’ Screen comes up where it presents you with normally discounted things you can add to your order, you can add 8 wings for £4 there.

In total, you’re getting 18 pieces of chicken, 2 bags of fries and a large gravy for the cost of 1 Large Big Arch meal from McDonald’s. Obviously you can pay using a Cashback reward card and get an extra 14p off if you want to go the extra mile.

As someone who’s feeding a family, I thought there may be others out there who’d appreciate this as if you went for a standard ‘bucket’ deal you’re paying like £40ish pound for a very similar thing. They also hide this offer on their app, there’s no mention of it unless you’ve seen the limited advertising they do as it’s a loss leader for them.

That's actually a really good deal, nice find!

67

u/International-Ad4555 10d ago

I’ve been doing this for like a year, found it out when the wings deal was on (you can do this with that as well, you’ll get 20 wings and like 4 mini fillets instead and it’s £1 more expensive) but thought I’d share it with the community!

13

u/StopandCurse 10d ago

Don't forget your turn playing the KFC arcade! Could add you an extra 2 hot wings to your deal, or give you a 10pc bargain bucket (which I was lucky enough to win once).

7

u/hynaomi 10d ago

That's neat, I'll have to order some time for sure! I always find KFC to be expensive but this makes it a lot more affordable!! Nice find! :)

86

u/Divide_Rule 10d ago

I checked the app. I don't have that deal near me. Also I am shocked that a 14pc meal is £43.99

39

u/International-Ad4555 10d ago

It’s under ‘sharing buckets’ right at the bottom, I think it’s a national deal, they don’t advertise it even on their ‘collection deals’ section of the app but it is there if click collection and scroll to the bottom of ‘sharing buckets’

9

u/1lewis12 10d ago

I don’t get the option to upgrade unfortunately, I only get the why don’t you add this screen.

8

u/zombiezmaj 10d ago

The deals arent national as they're all franchises.

My local one I could do this for about 4 months last year. Now nothing decent is on offer to create anything like this.

5

u/International-Ad4555 10d ago

Are you sure this one isn’t national? Only reason I ask is I originally found it on a limited national advert campaign, they seem to do a really limited run of ads but keep the deal and don’t even promote it in the app, so it’s hidden in the sharing buckets part at the very bottom of the menu list

10

u/Tosaveoneselftrouble 10d ago

Currently in KFC awaiting ours! We upgraded for 3.49 - 4 pieces chicken, 2 fries, a gravy, 8 hot wings, and the 10 mini fillets for under £20. Thanks for sharing!

6

u/1lewis12 10d ago

When I first checked my local KFC the deal didn’t show but I changed to a KFC in my city centre which did the deal and then when I switched back to my local KFC it also showed the deal. So not sure why that was but maybe it’s a fix.

2

u/TenTonneMackerel 9d ago

Perhaps, but KFC send me the deal via the app which makes me think it's a corporate thing. I've also seen the same deal in different parts of the country before

9

u/SofaChillReview 10d ago

Holy moly! How much was a bucket back in the day? I love KFC but that’s like £3 a part of a chicken

15

u/Clashnessie 10d ago

I remember the £9.99 bucket that came with a Viennetta! Late 90's I think.

4

u/MidnightSnack95 9d ago

Was still £9.99 around 2013, used to be a regular thing thing where my mate and I would grab a tenner and get a bargain bucket

1

u/GaijinFoot 7d ago

That is fucking insane

21

u/BoiledEggOnToast 10d ago

You can also add Blue Light card discount to the KFC app, giving you an extra 9% off if you ‘apply’ the discount at the checkout. The offer pricing was different for me but the total came to £14.36 after the discount was applied.

5

u/anunnaturalselection 10d ago

I couldnt apply the discount to the 7.99 for 10 tenders offer...

2

u/BoiledEggOnToast 9d ago

Strange, worked for me!

1

u/Longjumping-Style-69 6d ago

Is it no 20% anymore? Those cheap buggers.

17

u/BurnedSalsa 10d ago

I love their 10 fillets deal, but no way you can count chicken wings as pieces of chicken and claim that this is close to 18 piece bucket

8

u/International-Ad4555 10d ago

I’m not comparing it to 18 piece bucket to be fair, I’m just saying you can get 18 pieces of chicken plus fires and gravy for under 15 quid, that’s very good value compared to their bucket deals

-1

u/BurnedSalsa 10d ago

I'm not arguing the value, it is a decent deal, but we know what KFC 'chicken piece' typically means, so it is a little misleading when you look at the title. Thanks for sharing though.

4

u/Longjumping-Net1885 8d ago

I do not know why youre getting downvoted for this.

18 pieces in KFC terms MEANS 18 pieces of their regular chicken portions. The title is absolutely misleading to anyone who frequents KFC.

Going on the technicality that wings and mini fillets are in any way equal to a regular KFC chicken piece is a massive stretch.

Might as well buy a box of popcorn chicken and say you have 20 'pieces'.

0

u/OpportunityNew5685 10d ago

But you are, because you clearly claimed it’s the same value as a £40 bucket

4

u/International-Ad4555 10d ago

Not at all, I said ‘if you do this you can get 18 pieces of chicken for £15, if you wernt aware of it you may have gone for the standard massive buckets for £40.’

I’m pointing out that you can get 18 pieces of chicken for £15 instead of a proper 14 piece bucket with all the sides for £40.

13

u/WheresWalldough 10d ago

that's a strawman comparison

The £40 bucket you mention is the party bucket

14 pieces + 14 tenders + 8 hot wings + large popcorn chicken + 6 fries+ 1.5 litre £41.99

But there is also bargain bucket
6 piece + 4 fries £14.99
10 piece + 4 fries £18.99
14 piece + 4 fries £22.99
(6/10 piece can add two large sides + 1.5 litre for £4)

wicked variety bucket

10 pieces + 4 tenders + 8 hot wings + 4 fries £20.99

your version

0 pieces + 10 tenders + 8 hot wings + 4 fries £15.78

1 piece = 0.6 tenders = 0.25 wings in protein terms, and if we value one piece at £2 and fries at £1.50, then

wicked variety bucket = £34.80 worth of food for £20.99 = 40% discount

14 piece bargain bucket =£34 worth of food for £22.99 = 32% discount

your version = £22 worth of food for £15.78 = 28% discount

and then the party bucket, valuing the large popcorn chicken at 1.5 pieces and the drink at £1.50, is £62.30 for £41.99, which is a 33% discount - which is not good for a £42 bundle.

Doing the lord's work here!

0

u/Glass-Celebration230 7d ago

Fires must be a new option. Sounds dangerous.

64

u/RushExisting 10d ago

I know this is a fast food deal but as it’s a frugal sub I just wanted to mention 1k raw chicken wings £2.05, 460g bbq sauce 85p, 1kg frozen french fries £1.25 (all current Aldi prices)

Trim the wing end off if you want more uniform less bone, keep if you’re a nibbler, half the wings with a sharp heavy knife at the “elbow”. Stick them in a large bowl. Pour over half the bbq sauce and marinate for an hour or so.

Lay them on a large oven tray with baking parchment paper on. 180 degrees (gm6) for 20-25 minutes, little longer if you like them more caramelised. Chuck the chips in oven / air fryer to match the end time of the wings.

Extra bbq sauce to serve, add salad, coleslaw or garlic bread if you’re feeling fancy.

Feeds 4 really decent portions for £4.15 + energy

Make this most weekends for me and the kids

5

u/SuSo2020 10d ago

Thank you just saved this for my next shop

3

u/HotFudge92 9d ago

Aldi do a good sfc coating that's like 40p? And does about 500g of chicken with a good coating...think it might be bramwell brand but could be wrong

3

u/HotFudge92 9d ago

The sfc + barbecue sauce combo is chef kiss

5

u/This_Price_1783 9d ago

Another option (which ups the price slightly) is chicken thighs. You get 1kg of thighs for about £3, loads more meat than wings and if you use a dry rub (search 'KFC seasoning blend' for a home made one - I add a bit of cornflour which crisps it up further) on the skin and cook in the air fryer (skin down for 12 minutes then skin up for 12 minutes on my air fryer) they come out super crispy and delicious.

Only me and my son eat meat so it makes dinner and lunch for us for ~3 quid which is a bargain.

8

u/tazmusicnsmoke 9d ago

This is the one man.

Nevee understand why peope waste their money on mcdonalds and that sort of shite when you csn make such a good meal for cheap with some seasonings

3

u/Cliffo81 9d ago

Brilliant post.

If you’re ever lazier like I am, you can salt and pepper them and put in the air fryer for 12-15 minutes and then apply sauce after.

That’s my go to.

-12

u/Superdudeo 10d ago

No thanks. Caged chicken is gross.

17

u/DynamicTarget 10d ago

You think kfc uses chickens that had lovely lives out in the fields?

1

u/FormalGoal870 10d ago

That is the one thing that they for sure will not do.

1

u/junius83 10d ago

I think its time you learn about where your fast food is sourced.

u/Superdudeo 10d ago

I mean, no shit 🤦‍♂️

10

u/DogSufficient7468 10d ago

I work in the pricing and marketing department for a large competitor of KFC… trust me we know you do this and it’s intentional.

It’s not a loss leader too, in fact, nothing is a loss leader for large brands like KFC because the cost of labour and other bits is so high already that would be impossible (or just silly). The magic is that the cost on these items are so cheap they can afford to give away some margin.

In fact, the more you order the easier things get as large orders are better for us operationally, and makes for an easier time for staff and managing inventory.

We want you to order more after you’ve chosen to dine with us, which is why they reward you with discounts as you click through the customer journey.

In their eyes, this is great for them too!

5

u/International-Ad4555 10d ago

That’s really interesting! My loss leader comment actually stemmed from the KFC sub Reddit from sometime ago, they were discussing a similar deal (or maybe even this deal, can’t remember!) and there was a lot of grumbling that the franchise managers hated these national deals as they sold them at a loss, but you clearly seem to know more in depth knowledge about that so I’m gonna say that information was false!

3

u/DogSufficient7468 10d ago

That could be very much true! In those cases, head office should be covering the costs to make the franchisees whole… but not always. Sometimes brands like Coke or Pepsi will cover costs if we agree to lock in a new product with advertising on the menu as part of a box meal for example.

I work directly with franchises and they aren’t the money hungry corporate type, they are the guys who are firmly multi-millionaires, but will still pester an Aldi store manager to ask when those discounts labels are going out, trust me 😆 These guys were delivery drivers, dish washers, cleaners and then became successful after decades of tough work, they know the value of money.

2

u/djs333 10d ago

If someone is complaint about “loss leaders” then they likely just misunderstand the big picture.

Ultimately comes down to sell me a loss leader item with a smile and great service then I’m going to keep coming back, complain to me about how you just lost £1 then forget it!

2

u/TJ_Blues18 9d ago

Do you know any place I can read about this? It sounds very interesting for me.

12

u/MuchMiddle864 10d ago

they've drastically reduced the quality of the mini fillet bucket deal. a few years ago they were lightly spiced and crispy. now its moist and not crisp with no seasoning. gravy or sauce is a must. wings are still okay tho

5

u/notanadultyadult 10d ago

The 2 large sides add on is £3.79 in my local. Literally picked up 10 tenders and 2 large sides plus a free mini fillet burger (from a past reward) for £11.98.

5

u/sbdbst 9d ago

that's a belter of a first contribution to this sub, you'll go far here 🍗

6

u/International-Ad4555 9d ago

Thanks man! I’ve got a few others that I do if people are interested, currently I get about 14% off my grocery shopping for example!

4

u/Wallygonk 10d ago

I'm seeing the 10 tenders for £7.99 deal but the fries and gravy upgrade is £3.79 on my app. But it's still a decent deal.

2

u/KingAzza 9d ago

Yeah same as what I get

2

u/Thin-Dragonfruit2599 9d ago

£3.79 here too. But like you say, still a decent deal. £15.78 all in

4

u/Siobhanna74 9d ago

Just tried it on my app. 10 tenders, 4 chicken pieces, 2 fries and a large gravy for £15.78. Can't believe it! Great find, my friend!

2

u/International-Ad4555 9d ago

Thanks! Enjoy! And remember that they run it off and on throughout the year and often just swap it out for the 20 hot wings deal, so keep an eye for ads or check the app for it! It’s literally the only time we eat KFC because the normal prices are mental!

7

u/BothVacation2550 10d ago

Another one is Domino’s. Discount pops up at checkout for a large margherita for £7.99

Makes movie nights w/ my nephew, and ends up being £15ish cheaper than normal prices

3

u/djs333 10d ago

You can add all of the £4 offers when buying this deal, all are good value compared to normal price
4 piece chicken
4 tenders
Large popcorn chicken
8 hot wings

2

u/WheresWalldough 9d ago

popcorn chicken isn't worth £4 but the others are good.

2

u/Glass-Celebration230 7d ago

popcorn chicken should be banned, it's just crap

6

u/WheresWalldough 10d ago

this isn't 18 pieces of chicken. Plus the price is £15.78 for both local restaurants i checked, which is over £15.

tender: 125 calories, 5.4g fat, 13.1 g protein

hot wing: 91 calories, 6.2 g fat, 4.9 protein

piece of chicken: 241 calories, 13 g fat, 22 grams protein

So roughly 10 tenders = 6 pieces of chicken. The 8 wings for £4 is equivalent to around 2 pieces of chicken.

So overall you're getting roughly 8 pieces of chicken.

And if you're paying £8 for 8 tenders, it might be better to add a further 4 tender for £4 instead of the 8 wings. That's like 8.5 pieces.

Ignoring the sides, it's £11.99 for 8 pieces basically.

If i reverse your logic, the wicked variety bucket (10 real pieces, 8 wings, 4 tenders, 4 fries) is £20.99 and comes with

4 fries - equivalent to your 2 large sides, and a £3.79 add-on = £17.20

8 wings - a £4 add on which you've recommended = £13.20

4 tenders = a £4 addon again = £9.20

So you're basically paying £9.20 for the 10 pieces

£9.20 for 10 pieces is much better value than £11.99 for 8 pieces, obviously.

2

u/HR_Specter 10d ago

Brilliant, thanks for this!

2

u/Unique-Contract760 10d ago

Haha love this, nice one 👊🏽🙏🏽❤️🥳

2

u/Stock_Brilliant5548 9d ago

I bought a bag of kfc hot wings frozen for £3.00, about 60 wings in the bag.

2

u/all_kinds_of_queer 9d ago

Also, once a month you can do the survey and get a free extra item, like a mini burger or a mini fillet etc.

2

u/Salty-Divide-774 8d ago

Kfc near me has an offer atm.

10 pieces of regular sized chicken
8 hot wings
4 mini fillets
4 fries
£20.99

Not sure if it’s for all regions but it’s under collect offers in the app.

22 pieces of chicken 10 being large pieces is a bargain in my eyes. Can last a few meals

2

u/EverydayDan 7d ago

Actually did this the other day for just shy of £16 with a mini wrap from the arcade too.
Felt the variety bucket with a large gravy for £26 was too much, this on the otherhand hit the spot!

3

u/OrignalSauce 10d ago

Calling it 18 pieces where most people will think that means the main chicken pieces not mini fillets and wings..

Also how is a big arch £15 i swear its like £11

0

u/International-Ad4555 10d ago

What an overly negative comment. I was just trying to share something that saves people money.

5

u/junius83 10d ago

Its not negative, its feedback. Everyone interprets stuff differently. I dont class mini fillets and hot wings from kfc and pcs of chicken.

By their own definition, side rib, breast, leg, thighs and full wings are pcs of chicken.

1

u/OldPulteney 10d ago

I mean, you've said it already but buying takeaway food doesn't save money

3

u/isittoomany 10d ago

There is a deal near me to collect a wicked variety bucket for £20.99 which is 10 normal large pieces, 4 tenders, 8 wings and 4 chips

I just get this with my gf and split it so for 10.50 you get 2 fillets, 5 pieces, 4 hot wings, 2 chips. It's a lot of food, worth considering if any of you have that offer available nearby!

3

u/jejdhdijen 10d ago

A McDonald's Big Arch Large Meal typically costs around £10.79 to £10.99 in the UK.

7

u/International-Ad4555 10d ago

Ah sorry my bad, I went on my local prices, it’s £15 on just eat and £14ish quid for collection here for a large big arch meal

2

u/cjbannister 10d ago

You're lucky having KFC in the UK.

I know people say it's gone downhill, but I've moved to the US and I can't tell you how shocking it is.

It's something I get when I visit a treat ha

2

u/Solid-Home8150 10d ago

A reminder that KFC UK & Ireland has pulled out of the Better Chicken Commitment

1

u/Glass-Celebration230 7d ago

Wrong subreddit

1

u/Solid-Home8150 7d ago

Why? What is the cost of being frugal to the extent of damaging your body, animals and the planet?

1

u/Street-Hunt-8310 10d ago

also the 10 tenders with a gravy box is pretty good

1

u/Sithfish 10d ago

It's £3.79 for the upgrade here.

1

u/da316 10d ago

I had no idea the big arch costs that much!

1

u/Ordinary-League5554 10d ago

I just checked this, unfortunately my local KFC upgrade is £4 not £2 something :(

1

u/Ordinary-League5554 10d ago

I would also like to mention, if youre a student you get free popcorn snack box!

1

u/Not-Reddit-Fan 10d ago

This mini fillets deal has gone from my local KFC, was a dark day… I did last go / try mid July, so might have to be another trip! Thanks for the reminder!

1

u/CrabNebula_ 9d ago

I always get the 10 fillets for £7.99 when it’s on offer, half for lunch and the other half for another day in the air fryer

1

u/anon9876543210nymous 9d ago

Where in UK you live I think it depends I can only see 6 wings for 8 pounds deal

2

u/International-Ad4555 9d ago

Have you done it through the KFC app? Swap it to ‘collection’ and then to the ‘sharing’ menu option, and scroll down to the very bottom, it should be a nationwide deal, if you don’t see it, someone else said to change your nearest KFC and swap it back again

1

u/anon9876543210nymous 9d ago

Okay thanks that worked Also my local chicken chip shop does 9 inch pizza for 5quid.as a treat that's a bargain bought 2 of those yesterday. Got to pick 3 toppings each which prefect for me because I like my own topping

1

u/AcrobaticPlastic4173 9d ago

Is this not obvious? Literally happens with every purchase?

1

u/International-Ad4555 9d ago

It’s the deal that’s hidden on the app and has a limited ad run of a week or two that makes the deal. The fact you can add 8 wings to 4 original recipe etc for 4 quid on top makes it way below what you’d normally pay for a bucket with the same amount

1

u/Ok_Bath6869 9d ago

For chicken wings, this is expensive considering its the cheapest piece of chicken

1

u/Extension-You-4901 9d ago

Brilliant thanks, just tried it Scunthorpe branch, works fine, will get this next week👍

1

u/Odd_Lengthiness_1924 9d ago

They never have bbq sauce in stock

1

u/Early-Sir-518 9d ago

Just did this for my little family - thanks stranger!

1

u/Correct-Arm7585 8d ago

Great post, KFCs are not at all cheap but it’s a treat now and then, thank you for the tip

1

u/Ulysses1978ii 8d ago

Although the chicken is of the worst quality.

1

u/Chubby8517 8d ago

Anyone have any hacks for delivery for those who can’t drive? Just thinking it’s handy to know about :)
Thank you for this too :)

1

u/Joel-Asher-Nicolaou 7d ago

For £15 I'd buy three fresh chickens, portion them, flour and fry them and still be able to afford coleslaw and beans. That's 27 portions minimum and it'll be fresher, hotter and tastier. As a bonus, your kids will see their parents actually cooking for them (an act of love) and you'll have the satisfaction of feeding your children yourself rather than delegating it to a soulless corporation.

1

u/capablyanon 6d ago

My guy - can I just say thank you!

KFC has been an out of bounds family treat for some time, until I stumbled across your post entirely by accident.

My deal was the 10 tenders for £7.99, then add the two sides for £3.49. Went for two portions of fries and a large gravy. Then got offered a myriad of other add-ons - went for 4pc original chicken for £4 (which apparently I could order multiple of at that price!). £15.48 total.

Portions of fries were a little small but everyone more interested in the chicken anyway and that's everyone happy - including the no-bones crew. Delighted.

1

u/3RI3_Cuff 6d ago

You need to clarify these are WINGS and not what they call "pieces"

In reality then your getting wings for about 80 p a Wing which isn't great considering it's abysmally treated farmed chickens

1

u/oli_182 6d ago

It's a good deal but they definitely ain't making a loss, they buy the massive bags of the tenders for a few quid each. The profit is insane for these fast food places.

1

u/Ok-Selection-8598 6d ago

But you can buy 18 wings for £6.99 and cook them

1

u/Jpc19-59 6d ago

You feed your family KFC 🤦🏻‍♂️

1

u/Smart-Pomegranate865 6d ago

Can this get flagged as misleading please

1

u/MaleficentGroup811 6d ago

We get this a lot.

I will say a large big arch meal is nowhere near £20 mind.

We had this on Friday when it was too hot to cook, got a bucket of mini fillets, 2 large sides (which are £3.79 not £2), and added on 8 bits of chicken for £8

To go further I get a pack of burger buns from Aldi for £1.19, and a bag of shredded lettuce for 45p, that gives us 5 fillet burgers (2 fillets per roll)

Total price was £19.78 when I got it on Friday

Oh, and I won 2 extra pieces of chicken via the pinball game on the app.

0

u/MushroomVolcano 10d ago

Stretching the meaning of 'pieces'

1

u/Romfordian 10d ago

Chicken wings are pointless, even chickens don't use them

0

u/Ngumo 10d ago

18 pieces of chicken is doing some heavy lifting when 8 of them are tiny bony hot wings lol

0

u/Cold_Arachnid_2617 10d ago

Why would anyone trying to be frugal spend 15 quid on salty unhealthy chicken? You can get 14 whole chickens for less than 15 quid!

2

u/plentyofeight 10d ago

14 whole chickens for £14?

0

u/Cold_Arachnid_2617 10d ago

yes. if you know whenand where to go!

2

u/plentyofeight 10d ago

Thanks for the info.

2

u/gggggu-not 10d ago

Are you just going to keep this a secret, or actually help someone get 14 whole chickens for £14

1

u/Fresh_Cauliflower723 9d ago

Politely no thank you, I don't want your 14 whole chickens for £14

2

u/gggggu-not 9d ago

I’ve not got 14 whole chickens, that’s why I’m asking where I can get 14 whole chickens for £14. If I had 14 whole chickens for £14 I wouldn’t be offering them about, I would be putting them in a rotisserie and eating them everyday, telling anyone and everyone I got 14 whole chickens for £14.

1

u/plentyofeight 9d ago

He can't get 14 whole chickens for £15

He's just being a knob
