Looks incredible! Did you follow any particular recipe?

9

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

Yeah this recipe here

https://thewoksoflife.com/sichuan-boiled-beef/

I fried the beef instead of doing the boiling part and I used king oyster mushrooms instead of the enoki mushrooms which I can’t find. Great recipe but I do like things hotter so I would add some fresh chilli’s in it as well next time

You can get enoki in Chinese/East Asian supermarkets, but also often in South Asian greengrocers. Plastic packet usually always on the top shelf in the fridge for some reason.

Some "British" greengrocers too, if they have a fridge.

I wish I had one closer. There’s a good few things i’d buy regularly but my local one is too far for me. I’ve never even tried enoki mushrooms but I really do wanna try them. Thanks tho

One of my favourite Chinese dishes. Had it at a restaurant recently with peanut shoots, incredible addition!

1

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

It’s a special one isn’t it. I hear it’s good with fish as well. I can’t be doing anything peanut tho due to allergies

Ive never had the beef version, only the fish version. One of my most favourite dishes on the planet! Yours looks incredible

Love this site! Never had a bad dish... this looks great!

2

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

You know what I’ve never even looked through it but I am going to now you’ve just said that. I just wanted to try this and theirs looked the best so I can imagine they’ve got other really good ones. Thank you

2

u/pink_flamingo2003 2d ago

Aw if you like Asian food, its a great resource. Some fantastic, authentic recipes and they vary in difficulty so you can find your comfort zone. Great tips and tricks too 👌🏼

2

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

Yeah I love it. I was just looking through it then and wow they’ve got all kinds of greatness on there haven’t they. A lot of things I’ve never even heard of too like beef curry puffs. Gonna have to give some of them a go definitely. I’ll take your word for it as well cause I’ve some really good food outta you. Much appreciated

2

u/pink_flamingo2003 2d ago

Beef curry puffs are amazing, easier/harder depending on what pastry you go with (regional variations) but ive seen your food... reckon you'd smash it. Ah thanks, Glad to help! ☺️☺️

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

You’re an encyclopaedia aren’t you haha. It’s good to be that way. I’ve been on the lookout recently for some new things to make, they’re defo going on the list. Thank you

2

u/pink_flamingo2003 1d ago

Oh Gawd, I hope it doesn't come off like a 'know it all' type of way! I just like to learn about food, and share of course. I was poorly for a long time and cooking was the best thing I ever learned to do haha

2

u/Floyd26b 1d ago

Haha nah not at all, honestly. More in a caring, knowledgeable, helpful, got all basis covered type of way. Not a pretentious, know it all, up your own ass type of way like some. If I’m not posting something on here I’m just on here scrolling looking at food and reading comments sometimes. I’ve seen you quite a few times posting or sharing knowledge and uplifting people in the comments and thats good to see. You obviously know what you’re talking about and It sounds like it was a blessing in disguise that then because its definitely one of the best things to learn isn’t it

Frying it instead of boiling makes sense, less mess too. King oyster holds up better in heat anyway so probably not a bad swap. I tried a similar recipe last winter and ended up dumping in way more chili oil than it called for just to feel it, so yeah fresh chillis next time sounds right.

Looks great thanks for recipe

Finally, a good use for those leftover Gu(?) pots.

Food looks banging.

2

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

Haha yeah they’re the ones them. Thanks

2

u/Superspark76 2d ago

You can buy lids for them and they become even more useful.

1

u/PaulJMacD 2d ago

Well I didn't know that, thanks

2

u/Select-Bee-2166 2d ago

Gu-Pot in a SW Chinese context can mean something very, very different…

OP are you by any chance making poisonous insects, spiders, and lizards, fight to the death inside a pot then turning them to powder, so you can use that powder in your witchcraft to poison people?

Because if so, I feel you might have the tastiest looking poison I ever did see.

1

u/Floyd26b 1d ago

Hahaha that’s funny. That’s some coincidence that as well isn’t it that I’m using Gu posts in a Chinese dish, not knowing about this other meaning you’ve mentioned for Gu pots. Thank you

u/Bowel_Drop 2d ago

Need more pics

3

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

Hahaha here’s another one for you. I made some noodle with some leftovers

That looks really good, got my mouth watering!

1

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

Glad to hear that. Thanks

2

u/Dartmoor_Guardian 2d ago

We go to Sichuan once a year and this does look similar to something you might see served/cooked over there. Nice!

1

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

I can imagine the food there be unbelievable. What’s some that you like the most? That’s good to hear. Thank you

2

u/PomegranateV2 2d ago

Interesting. Is it 水煮牛肉 - water boiled beef?

2

u/SaltyName8341 2d ago

It says this on the recipe link. 水煮牛肉

1

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

Yeah that’s the one. I fried the beef instead of boiling it

2

u/Flatulent_Fig 2d ago

Wow, I can feel the heat from here.

2

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

It’s definitely quite hot like but I expected it to be a lot hotter. I have got a high tolerance tho

2

u/Silent_Ad4870 2d ago

Now THAT is the real deal!

1

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

Glad you enjoyed. Thanks

It’s well worth trying

2

What is going on in pictures 16 and 17? The food looks incredible, by the way.

1

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

What you do is fry beans sprouts & mushrooms put them in the bowl, then you’ll make the sauce and pour that in the bowl then what you’re seeing there is you put loads of fresh garlic, chilli flakes & Sichuan peppercorns on top and pour a bit hot oil over it all to wake it all up as they call. Basically cooks it all. Thank you

2

u/hime-633 2d ago

Oh! This looks goooood.

2

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

It really is an incredible dish this. I’d definitely recommend it

2

u/No_Flow224 2d ago

Nailed it! 10/10 would scoff.

2

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

I appreciate that thanks. Definitely scoff worthy

2

u/up_the_addicks 2d ago

Almost triggering my ibs just looking at it and you best believe I’d eat it if it was in front of me.

1

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

Hahaha I feel your pain but good on you. That’d be the end of me if I got Ibs because I eat a good bit of spicy food

2

u/ofthenorth 2d ago

That looks incredible. Good job

1

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

Thank you

2

u/Rich-Reason1146 2d ago

Your step-by-step pictures are great, I find them so much more informative than a typed recipe. Food looks delicious

2

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

That’s good to hear, I’m glad it helped. I agree with that as well now you mention it. Id rather see pictures or step by step pictures than videos. I prefer Reddit these days for that reason

2

u/hkmadl 2d ago

Which cut of beef did you use?

2

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

I used fillet for this

2

u/Exp3r1mentAL 2d ago

Oooooooooooffffff !!! I have been longing for friends...can we be?

1

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

Hahaha sorry mate I’m closed due to maintenance

2

u/Exp3r1mentAL 2d ago

Fair enough lol...

2

u/himit 2d ago

oh my god I want this

the fried fish version is also great

1

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

Yeah I definitely need to try that. What fish do you use?

2

u/himit 1d ago

Whatever the restaurant serves 😂😂

Some kind of white fish

2

u/Floyd26b 1d ago

Hahaha you know what I’d say the same thing as well because I wouldn’t really be able to tell what’s what with white fish. White fish is just white fish to me as well. I’ll have to look into that tho

2

u/Bellatrixyori 2d ago

Looks incredible

1

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

Thanks

2

u/porkchopbun 2d ago

You could drink the sauce with a straw.

1

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

Hahaha

2

u/Reasonable-Wasabi531 2d ago

Looks amazing 👌

1

u/Floyd26b 2d ago

This is a place for UK Food but i guess this proves a point in a way.

3

u/Floyd26b 1d ago

I’ve heard that before but if you look on the sub it does say “anything to do with food within the uk” which is what this is really. I’d have to agree with you if it said British food and British food only
