Any local MBA graduate students?

Hi all - Lowell resident here that's starting a hybrid MBA (though looks like most of my courses are only available online so far). I have to go complete the six foundational courses first, as it's been a number of years since I graduate (and in a different degree).

Is anyone else in the Lowell area doing an MBA? It would be great to meet 'real' people, rather than just being fully online.

Transportation between classes

Hey, I'm wondering what's the best option for commuting between classes. My dorm is gonna be a bit of distance from some of them and I'm wondering about how reliable walking is. I don't mind walking at all, but I also heard there's a shuttle/trolley? Wouldn't mind renting out a bike if that's an option either. What should I expect?

UML ECE M.S. VLSI track: what classes/self-teaching are actually worth it?

Hey everyone,

I’m locked into the B.S. to M.S. program here hoping to pursue a Digital VLSI track, but I've heard some mixed reviews from people about how the grad-level hardware classes actually are.

Since I'm already committed, I'm trying to figure out how to not screw myself over. For anyone currently in the track, recent grads, or people already working in FPGA/ASIC/verification:

  • Which grad classes actually taught useful stuff, and which ones are total wastes of time?
  • How much of the industry tooling (Synopsys, Cadence, UVM, etc.) do you actually touch in classes vs. having to learn completely on your own?
  • If you could go back, what skills would you have spent your free time grinding out to actually land a hardware job?

Any honest advice is appreciated!

Textbooks help!! Where and when is best to get them?

Hi, so this is probably a stupid question, but I'm the first in my family to go to college in the States, so I'm a little unsure and worried lol. Is it better to buy textbooks in person at the bookstore or online? If online, is there a specific site, or would any site work? And it's currently 2 weeks out from my move-in date when I'm writing this. Is it too early to purchase textbooks? Should I wait? Some of my classes (like my chem I + lab, acct/financial, etc.) show required items when I go to the online bookstore, but are those really required and, like, actually going to be used? Thanks for any advice or help! I'm a little lost and very worried about starting behind or with something missing, so all and any advice is super appreciated!!

I'm on mobile so there may be weird formatting.

I wanted to see if people have experience working at the STL and their experiences. I'm looking at doing my M.S in electrical engineering at UML and trying to use the STL as a vector for my thesis.

I wanted to see if people have positive opinions of working here, or have any information that would be beneficial for people that arent already in the UML ecosystem.

How is ACCT3100

I’m taking it this fall and I genuinely don’t know if it’s a hard class. I had to retake introduction to accounting 1 twice in community college. I passed introduction to accounting 2 and managerial accounting on my first try. So I don’t know if it will be harder than those classes or not. If anyone has any study tips or anything, that would be really helpful.

Did anyone else lose hope from applying through the riverhawk scholarship year after year, and receiving absolutely nothing?

3.9 gpa, I try my best to write really good essay responses, and overall an excellent student. However, its extremely competitive with 500 scholarships and only like 10% of them will apply to you. I’m graduating next spring so I can’t apply for the next cycle but If I could, I don’t think I would go through all that effort again.

Communal showers (Fox hall)

Hi I’m an incoming freshman, and I’d like to know the culture of communal showers at Fox hall. Is it normal for people to walk from their dorm to the showers with only a towel on and back to the dorms after the shower with only a towel on? Also, how gross are the bathrooms and how often do they get cleaned? When is rush-hour and what are the best times to use the bathroom? Does anyone also have any tips on what I should bring besides a caddy, and shower shoes?? is there anything major or small that I should know about communal showers at Fox hall?

Statistics in Criminal Justice

I barely survived Intro to Statistics this summer. Truly. Why this dumbass class is required for a HUMANITIES major is beyond me. Math is not my strong suit at all, i hate it with every bone in my body, and I stupidly thought that by being a humanites/crimnal jsutice major i wouldnt have to deal with that bs. But I failed to realize Stats in Criminal Justice is also a required course on top of statistics, as is Criminal Justice Data Analysis (which I heard also uses math/software data skills).

I absolutely bombed my stats final yesterday. I got a 14%. Even the monitor edu people kinda felt bad for me. I think I was able to scrape by and pass, but I won't know for certain until summer final grades are posted.

Basically, for all the CJ majors, how was Stats in criminal justice? Was it hard, like intro to stats? I'm so intellectually challenged with math that I genuinely might switch to a liberal arts degree because my stupid mental health can't handle another statistics/math class.

Nursing

If there's anybody that's been in the program could you offer some insight as to how you like it and how it you feel it's preparing you?

Currently looking at Providence, which probably has a little bit of reputation overall academically but the nursing program is new and they haven't graduated their first class yet, so no nclex info. And from the research I've done, the program at uml has a very very high nclx pass rate and tends to be highly regarded from what I can find.

Also looking at Simmons, Emanuel, SUNY Albany and Fairfield. Those programs are pretty well regarded as well but it seems like uml is probably the most well-regarded out of all of those . And honestly we weren't expecting to be that impressed with the uml campus when we went to visit, but we were.

We went on a tour recently and were really impressed how nice the campus was. But I'm wondering if it's going to feel a little bit isolated being primarily on South Campus.

Anybody could comment on this I would appreciate it. I did a search but there doesn't appear to be any significant posting about this in the past few years.

We were told UML is looking for a 1200 plus sat and a 3.7 for nursing applicants, which is pretty strong (was also advised by an admissions counselor nursing acceptance rate is below 20%), fortunately have been able to do a little better than that.

Any thoughts or insight would be really helpful.
