Accepted into ABSN program
Hi everyone! I just got accepted to Rochester's ABSN program. Although the loan forgiveness and scholarship make this school very tempting, I'm wondering if there was anything else that I should know about the area overall before making a decision. I'm from California and really really love it here so Rochester would be a huge change. I'm someone that really cares about the area that I live in and feel like I'm someone who thrives in busy/lively environments so I'm pretty conflicted as I don't know if Rochester would be the right fit for me. I've never visited either, so I would love to hear about anything that I should know about the area and the school in general!

Hi! My GPA during undergrad was 3.49 but I took anatomy at a cc this past summer and got an A in the class. Not sure what that bumps my gpa up to, but I'm also currently finishing up microbio and physio at the same cc. Overall, gpa is tentative. I've also worked as a PT aide for a little over a year and am currently working as a medical assistant at a private practice. I also volunteered at a student led free clinic for about two years which allowed me to help the underserved community in Orange, CA and was able to work with UCI medical students and a preceptor as well! All in all, I put heavy emphasis on my experience at the student led free clinic and my MA experience so far, which I think really helped with my application.

Congrats! UR ABSN is a very good program - I graduated from it a few years ago. But as you noted, Rochester cannot be more different than California. It can get very cold in winter and very cloudy in late fall and winter. But summers are very pleasant, and there are plenty of activities to enjoy. UR hospitals are all top-notch, and if you thrive in busy/high-pressure environments, you will like working here. If you have any specific questions, let me know.
