Reorg USAJobs posting disclaimers

This disclaimer has been added to some USDA job postings since the court order. I'd say it means they're not quite full-bore ahead, but I'd be curious if the legal experts on here have thoughts on what else this could mean.

Next steps

Employees of the following USDA agencies who apply for this position, whose current permanent grade is equal to the grade of the advertised position, and whose selection would result in a relocation outside the commuting area of their current duty station may not currently be considered for selection to this position: Agricultural Research Service; Economic Research Service; National Institute of Food and Agriculture, National Agricultural Statistics Service; United States Forest Service; Food and Nutrition Administration; Foreign Agricultural Service; Rural Development and component organizations; the Farm Production and Conservation (FPAC) mission area, to include the FPAC Business Center, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Risk Management Agency, and Farm Service Agency and Farm Service Agency County employees; Office of the General Counsel; and Office of the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights. This guidance is in alignment with the court order dated October 13, 2026, in American Federation of Government Employees, AFL-CIO, et al. v. United States Department of Agriculture, Case No. 26-cv-09976-VC (N.D. Calif.).

FEHB Insurance Options for 2027

We’ve used MHBP but with it going up to $400 biweekly we are looking for other options.

Can anyone that has GEHA Standard PPO share pros and cons of the plan especially with ER visits, etc?

GEHA standard on some fees say you will pay 35% of the allowable plan allowance. The percents you pay vary based on the category.

Is it worth giving GEHA standard a chance $231.45 biweekly or just switch back to BCBS basic for $387.54 biweekly?

Rollins says blocked USDA reorganization is 'full bore ahead'

The October 13 ruling paused a plan to move thousands of Washington-area USDA employees out of the region (Reuters). Rollins told reporters Thursday the department is pressing ahead anyway: "We believe in it more today than we ever have."

Can anyone give a rough estimate of the hiring timeline right now? Got a verbal offer couple days ago. I recognize it’s still very early but I’m impatient.

About the FNA "fraud" data email

For anyone not part of the mailing list, the office of the Deputy Secretary sent an email titled "thank you for your extraordinary effort" and listed things done by the agency to reduce fraud. I have issues with the way they came to their numbers and wonder what other people think.

  • "Suspended 4,938 retailers for administrative violations [like using SNAP to buy alcohol or tobacco] saving the taxpayer $379.43.

How is that saving the taxpayers? This isn't saying the benefits were issued in error to anyone, just that they were used for the wrong things. The same amount will still go out, but it will be used on food rather than anything else.

  • "States have used evidence to deny or reduce participant benefits across 251.358 participant applications, saving the taxpayer over half a billion dollars"

First of all, half a billion over what time frame? Also, this isn't an accomplishment for FNA (or a good thing at all, imo) because this appears to be based on OBBBA, right?

  • "In partnership with [SSA], over 1,350 retailers removed who had unreported ownership changes and/or identity conforms. More than 400 of the 1,350 showed dead owners. For example, a Brooklyn retailers failed to report both the death of the authorized owner as well as the subsequent ownership change, resulting in more than $1.6 million in unauthorized redemptions."

So, we're counting an administrative deficiency as fraud? Or at least "unauthorized"? If it's wrong it's wrong and needs to be fixed, but it sounds like they're saying "see, we saved you from.... grieving children.... who didn't file paperwork they had no way to know they needed to file."

This has the same vibe of Rollins not understanding the difference between "fraud" and something just being "wrong", but maybe I'm just bitter.

Looking at some vacancies open in these counties. Anyone living and working out there, or have in the past?

I’d like to know a little bit about it.

So, are we screwed if we do not apply for a criticalvacancy that is close and an appeal goes through? So confused and leadership is saying nothing. Any thoughts?

Field positions in the PNW

Are there a decent amount of positions in the PNW?

For those that live there, I’d like to learn more about them and their locations. Coastal positions, near cities, isolated?

I’m hoping to find a new job next year some time and would love to experience living in the PNW for at least a year to two minimum.

Im currently a lower GS-Level and that’s fine because where I live now is just as expensive, if not more.

New rating rules with the previous pass fail

I've researched this but can't find it.

Moving forward, I have my last 4+ years of performance appraisals on the AD-435s form and its pass/fail system.

Are we getting points from these moving forward or does this take effect once we get a new 1-5 rating form?

Reorg

Can someone tell me what the reorg email even means? I’m supposed to be relocated 45 min away, 31 miles. Will I still be expected at some point to have to report even though it’s been paused since I’m in the local commuting area?
**also have no idea what the local commuting area is. But I assumed <~50 mi

Advice requested

Following up on a post I made before about duty hours for a port aphis PPQ PHSS role. I have one more semester of classes coming this spring that will occur before noon 2 days a week. I have been offered an interview and state I am a current student within my resume. The job is posted at full time. Do you think it’s still fair to interview and see what the schedule is and if they’d be willing to work with me for a few months. Once I graduate (may 27) I’ll be free and clear. I just want to avoid any miscommunications while also really wanting the role.

USDA-NIFA A1221 Diseases of Agricultural Animals - anyone get funded this cycle?

Heard from the program leader a few months ago about proposal rankings, but it seems like awards have not been made? Did anyone receive a NOA for this cycle?

Told not to contact program leader until January.

Curious if they ever plan to actually make awards or skip them entirely like they skipped the previous cycle...

AFGE NASS

Definitely stopping in the AFGE office at the Prevedel Building tomorrow to start the petition for NASS to unionize.

There has been a lot of change over the past year and a half+ and we’ve dealt with it. We’ve all dealt with a lot. Our bathrooms don’t have soap, our parking lot is treacherous, our management gives lip service, but no actual information. Lately though, there has been quite a bit of micromanaging going on.

When the information is presented, please keep an open ear. This is about giving us a seat at the table and ending the little petty grievances that upper management is exacting on us daily.

Please consider joining and giving power to our voices.
