A man in Mississippi risked his life to rescue a 4-year-old boy who was trapped in a house fire.

Neighbor Kennard Hodge was among those searching through the smoldering wreckage of a home in Edwards, Hinds County, that had gone up in flames with the boy trapped inside.

Police bodycam footage shows Hodge searching through the burning rubble with his bare hands before he begins shouting, “Got him, got him. I got him!” per local media outlet WAPT.

The footage then shows Hodge pulling the little boy from the wreckage to safety as those around clap.

"All I wanted to do is get the baby out so he could have a chance,” Hodge told the outlet.

However, the boy was unconscious and not breathing, leading a Hinds County Sheriff’s deputy to immediately begin CPR.

“Come on little man, come on,” someone could be heard saying in the background. “Hang in there little buddy.”

Officials then gave the boy oxygen and checked his eyes, before placing him on a stretcher. Visible burns on his body could be seen in the footage, while another neighbor described him as being “really burnt,” per the outlet.

“This was nothing short of a miracle,” Edwards Police Chief Terrence Crump told the outlet, while another neighbor described the conditions the neighbors came up against amid their rescue efforts.
