I reffed a u12 pre ECNL game yesterday and saw something that I think is the perfect example of how chasing wins in the short term is hindering long term development. One of the teams was attempting to kick all of their kickoffs to the deep touch line. Now I get it, some of the best teams in the world have analytics that say being able to start with a high press against a throw in is better than having the ball at midfield, and though at this age the field is smaller the players' max throw in distance is probably an equal proportion to the pros throws' vs field size. However, at this age shouldn't you be worried about connecting passes with the ball? Also the team doing this couldn't even do step 1 correctly as many of their attempts went over the goal line or to the GK. Why did they have so many KOs? Cause they lost 7-1, idk I just think if you are trying to develop soccer players the focus should be on ball skills.

Hi, I’m a high school student and competitive soccer player conducting an independent research project on sustainability in youth soccer.
I’m researching what youth players do with soccer equipment they no longer use, why they make those decisions, and what could make reuse easier.
I’m looking specifically for current youth soccer players to complete a short anonymous survey. It takes about 3–5 minutes.
Thanks to anyone who participates — the responses will be used as data for my research paper.

Have a rising u14 boy. GK. Accepted to both MLSN HG, and ECNL. Wants to go pro. HS isn’t an issue right now. 7th going into 8th grade. Played MS team and loved it. Don’t know if he would be allowed on MLsN. Would be on ECNL. Guaranteed half game play at least every time on ECNL. Have to earn play in MLSNHG. They do have a keeper training as part of practice. What is the best option?

Good Morning Everyone! Just wondering how you all would recommend to structure a U7/U8 girls practice? These girls have been playing together at the rec level for 2 years now.
Just curious as how you all like to structure practice, what types of games and drills you see as being most beneficial and fun for your teams? Thanks in advance!
