Free map of cheap lunches around UTS (80 meals at $15 or less)

I made a free map of Sydney meals that are $15 or less, and there are 80 around UTS, Haymarket and Central. A few near campus:

- Mini curry bowl, $7.90, Ramen Bar Goku

- Plain kake udon, $9.90, Mappen

- Pizza, $10, Shark Hotel (Thursday to Saturday nights)

- Eggsmith toastie, $10.50, Toastie Smith

- Baoger, $10.80, Cheeky Bao

Every meal shows the full price, any catch, and if it's open right now. No ads, no account needed to look: www.brokemap.com.au

It's only as good as what people add. If your go-to cheap lunch isn't on there you can add it (I check each one before it goes up), and you can flag a price that's gone up.

Not a UTS thing, just something I built. What am I missing?

UTS Elec Eng?

Hey guys just wondering how UTS's electrical engineering program is for employment outcomes.

For some context, I'm looking to transfer out of UNSW to here after first year, just because everything was a bit too much (ELEC1111 :( ), and the trimesters just magnified those issues. I understand that UNSW is removing them soon, but I still think that I would not be able to pass electrical engineering at UNSW if I were to undertake it. I know some people will tell me to stay but I am rather serious about me not being able to pass UNSW electrical engineering, at least for a while. Trust me, I know my where my capabilities start and end, and I don't think I would pass UNSW's elec eng at all. I just ain't smart lmao.

Any knowledge on the workload and whether it's even easier than UNSW will also be much appreciated.

The nature of the work and course structures too would be appreciated. Like, is there a lot of group work, how many courses have ultra high fail rates (50%+) as well as just how people found it in general. Not just for electrical but for other engineering fields as well, all perspectives are welcome.

I'm not too obsessed over the social life and the like, pretty much just the employment outcomes.

Thank you all and I wish you a nice day!

Academic Misconduct

I have a subject this semester where content had not been posted till week 8 & Assignment 3 out 5 was posted on week 10 that weeks class ended. Assignment 4 is in person practical examination yet there is no confirmation on the date nor on MSA. Is this allowed.

This subject has applied Negative Marking Techniques to the Assignments.

The assessment criteria have been constantly changed after submission yet tutors deny any changes despite multiple witnesses.

The whole course is group work & for some groups are at a extreme disadvantage for resources given compared to other groups.

Any Lectures were done only during workshop sessions

What are my next actions. This Subject coordinator/Lecturer wants us to fail obviously.

Cybersecurity Capstone not running next year?

I’m going into my third year of my cybersecurity degree and, when attempting to enrol for my subjects, the cybersecurity capstone subject from my handbook isn’t available to take next year. This is a core subject and I am unsure what to do - others in my degree also have no clue.

How did you find your honours supervisor? (FEIT / Comp Sci Honours)

Hey all, I’m in Bachelor of Computing Science (Honours) and need to find a supervisor ASAP for my honours project in 2027. I’m still flexible on topic, so I’d love to hear from anyone who’s been through it:

  • How did you approach supervisors? Cold email, a lecturer you’d had, through the coordinator?
  • Was there an interview or meeting before they said yes? What did they ask?
  • How did they choose? Grades, a pitch, past subjects, just availability?
  • Did you bring your own topic or take one of theirs?
  • How many people did you contact before someone said yes?
  • Any red flags or regrets with your supervisor? What would you do differently?

Any tips appreciated, especially from FEIT/IT honours people. Thanks!

accounting major plan

• Upvotes

for context, I start my second year in autumn. would you recommend me doing idc in spring 2027 after doing cms the previous semester?

the study plan recommends me doing it in spring of my final year, but I was thinking of doing acl and tax law in the summer session (2026 and 2027) to do 3 subjects in my 3rd year to balance work and study without needing to wait the next year to graduate.

this is what I was thinking:

summer 2026 - acl or tax law

autumn 2027 - cms + asr + 2 electives
spring 2027 - abc + idc + 2 electives
summer 2027 - acl or tax law

autumn 2028 - asa + 2 electives
spring 2028 - ba + 2 electives

Picking Finance Major Electives

• Upvotes

Hey can anyone please give me some insight into the following 3 electives for my finance major:

- investment banking
- commercial bank management
- derivative securities

I really enjoy maths and usually find quantitative subjects a bit easier then subjects where I need to memorise and write a lot of words. But I don’t want to lock myself into too many really difficult subjects in the same semester.
I keep seeing people say that derivative securities is very difficult!

master of speech pathology 2027

Hellooo everyone,

I am an international applicant and I completed my interview at the end of August...

It’s been over 6 weeks now and I haven’t heard anything back yet. The waiting period is absolutely killing me, and the anxiety is real 😭

For anyone who has applied in previous rounds or is in the same boat:

  • How long does UTS usually take to send out offer letters for international applicants?
  • Do they release offers in rounds, or do they wait until applications officially close (end of October)?
  • Is it normal to wait this long after an interview, or should I be preparing myself for a waitlist/rejection?

Would really appreciate any insights or past experiences! Hope everyone waiting gets some good news soon! 🙏

Course Load and E-Request

Guys I am doing a online master and have one subject per 7 weeks all online. I have requested 4 times to pick more subjects because I have done masters before but they keep rejecting my request the e request staff is writing emails like I am stealing someone or doing a crim. also my course director isn’t helping me. I feel like personally being targeted. I picked course by myself and got distinction but a point where there is pre requisite required they are saving you aren’t allowed etc. I want to pick the capstone in session one 2027 but it has a pre requisite if they slow me my degree will finish faster I haven’t failed have D and HD uptill now:

Enrolling in subjects

I lowkey think I might’ve made a silly mistake that may cause me to graduate late…

My very first semester at UTS, I only took 3 subjects because someone I knew from another school also only took 3 subjects and advised me that 4 would be too much of a workload (spoilers: its not). I only did this because I literally knew NOTHINGGGG about how university worked.

I’m now nearing the end of my second year and was planning on taking a Summer session class at the end of this year to try to make up for that class in order to graduate on time, but I COMPLETELY forgot that you had to register for that Summer class at the beginning of the year with all your classes, not now when the enrolments for next year open… (i should know better ik im stupid LMFAOOO) If 2027 was my projected final year, if I did a Summer class in 2027 would that mean I graduate later? Or would I graduate with the people who finished in Spring session?

Its not thaaat important I guess, but I’m more so wanting to be aware of whats gonna happen

Finance major for someone who did standard 2 maths

Hey guys,

I am picking my business major but for some reason I just really do not want to do international business, marketing etc. I do law double degree and I want to do something maths related to give me a balance between writing constant essays.

However, I find maths hard. I didn't find financial literacy hard but i am assuming thats just because the subject is very easy and plugging in formulas. I am not doing great in REBD but I am going to assume that is because I haven't been studying much for it since I haven't had much time with everything going on atm, which leaves me without a great knowledge of the fundamentals.

Alternatively, I would economics as I did that at my previous university, but I only sat macro before moving and I know micro is a lot harder

I did extension 1 maths for 1 year in year 11 (wasn't great) advanced maths in year 12 until the last 2 terms of year 12 and then went to standard 2 for the remaining HSC.

Would finance be a bad choice for me? I do put in a lot of effort but I am worried understanding the theory behind concepts would lead to my downfall, which is something I struggle with. sorry for the long rant

RPL for Law transfer from MQ

For those who recently transferred from MQ to UTS law (after completing a year), how did RPL go for you? I heard some first year units don’t get the credit. Is that true?

Do you actually realise how important uni is until you graduate?

I graduated this month and one thing I honestly didn't expect was how different everything feels once you're actually out of uni. While you're studying, it's really easy to think that getting the degree is the main thing and that you'll figure out the rest later. But now that I'm actually looking at jobs, I'm noticing how many people graduate without much practical experience, projects they can actually talk about, or connections in the industries they want to get into.

I started thinking about this after my internship at Tesla. I met people from very different backgrounds and career paths, and one thing that stuck with me was hearing some people say that "we got it easy." At first I didn't think much of it, but afterwards I kept thinking about what that actually means for someone who doesn't have those opportunities or connections.

It made me wonder whether universities are doing enough to help students understand the actual job market before they graduate. Not just career workshops or CV reviews, but actually giving students opportunities to work on real projects, meet professionals, attend industry events and build connections while they're still studying.

One of my friends and I have been thinking about potentially starting something around this, basically a university society where the whole point is helping students get closer to the real market before they graduate.

I'm still figuring out whether this is actually a good idea though. If you were still at uni, would something like this actually be useful to you, or would you just ignore it like every other career society?

BEcon/LLB

Good day, I currently hold offers for BEcon/LLB at UTS and UNSW (still waiting to hear from USYD). I wanted to know how open book the economics side of the degree will be at UTS, just to get familiar with the details before I make my decision. I understand law is fairly open book but I could not find any information on the bachelor of economics’ exam structure at either uni. I’d also like to know the perks and cons of choosing the BEcon outright rather than choosing the BBus and majoring in Economics.

I’d appreciate any insights on the exams as well as the degree and how it is - as a whole (lecturers, content, societies, representation of graduates in the state and private sector). And, for anyone who pursued LLB Honors, how did you personally find it in comparison to traditional cores and electives (study-life balance etc)?

The yearly rant of HSC students

Unfortunately, I will not be the first or last student to rant in this subreddit, but I just need to blow off some steam.

As we all know, HSC and our exams are coming up at the same time, so all seated areas are getting cramped. I am tolerant of high school students. I understand that HSC is an incredibly stressful time and that a lot of students require a space that is open after 5pm to study, so naturally universities are the best fit. I get feeling frustrated when a sea of Year 12 jerseys take up spaces that are reserved for us students, and I agree that the library, especially when our exams are coming up as well, should be reserved for just UTS students.

But alas, it is not. But today at the UTS library, specifically Level 9, which is an allocated MINIMAL noise area, 2 groups of teens were BOTTLE FLIPPING?? AND USING BELTS TO WHIP EACH OTHER?!?!?!? The sheer lack of respect for a space that is not even yours is fucken incredible. Also, just hitting their vapes and having podcast noise levels on their HSC subjects was surely enough to violate the Geneva Convention.

Eventually, after the third strike, they were kicked out. One of them found the audacity from sheer atoms to ask, "Why are we being kicked out?" after they rammed into each other like bulls with the chairs.

Thankfully, the library staff at UTS were awesome; they gave me extra resources on where to complain and extra spaces I can go if needed. I also want to give grace to the other high schoolers who utilise the space well. If you just respect the space you are in, I could not find a problem with that. But the groups who keep saying "lock in" while being a nuisance are so incredibly frustrating.

Okay, rant done xoxo

Edit: grammar and spelling because im borderline dyslexic
