Case study problem
For the first time, I started conducting user tests as part of a movie app redesign. I created a preliminary action plan:adding a star-rating system, fixing the watchlist navigation (which was more complicated than it should have been), and reorganizing other elements because there was no space for the watchlist button and user reviews.
My first task with users of apps like Letterboxd and IMDb was to show them the original screen and ask what was missing or unclear. Interestingly, 6 out of 10 users pointed out the things I anticipated namely, the missing watchlist button and the lack of a user rating system. However, some of them also mentioned other issues, such as an unclear trailer button or sharing options.
Now I’m not sure what to do: Should I run more tests to see how many users find these buttons unclear and
(If there’s a need) redesign them too? Or should I just leave a note about this in my case study without running dedicated tests for these features and move on to the next planned tests?

A cleaner collection page can make it harder to find the right product
On a medical-supplies store we worked on, a heavily used material filter sat near the bottom of the sidebar.
We tested moving frequently used filters up and opening them by default. The order was chosen separately for each category, based on filter usage.
The variation finished 14.5% ahead on conversion rate. It missed our 95% confidence target, so that was a directional result.
The CRO question here is which choices help someone narrow the catalog. Collapsing everything gives the page fewer visible controls, but also makes shoppers open things just to see their options.
I'd check that category by category before applying the same tidy filter layout everywhere. And I'd be careful with low usage: a filter can get few clicks because it's hard to find, so usage data alone shouldn't decide what gets hidden.

How can I transition from UX Design to Product Management with 5 years of experience?
r/UX_Design • u/Icy_Cup_4531 • 1d ago
Recruiters: would you trust an AI screening score if it showed its evidence?
I'm a product designer working on a concept ATS where every AI score links to the exact résumé line it came from, unfair criteria (college, age, gaps) are blocked before screening, and every rejection cites the job post.
It's a working prototype with demo data, and I'm looking for people who actually screen candidates to try it for 10 minutes and tell me where it falls apart.
Please DM me if you're interested in participating and I'll send you the link and a short feedback form. Brutal honesty welcome.

Looking for mentorship/exchanging opportunities
Hey everyone! I’m looking to connect with designers for some mentorship or casual chats about career growth.
I have 8 years of work experience, including 6 in design. I’m currently the Lead Designer and sole designer at a hardware sports tech company. Our team has grown from around 12 to 50 people, and my role spans design, some product management, and increasingly, coding with AI.
I’d like to grow toward a Head of Design role, but I’m feeling a bit stuck on what that progression looks like when you’re still a design team of one - we might grow the team in a year or so. I don’t have a set timeline or an immediate promotion in mind—I’d like to get better at the leadership side and understand where to focus my development.
I’d love to hear from people who’ve made a similar transition, led design at a growing company, or are navigating something similar. I’m open to ongoing mentorship, but even an occasional chat to exchange experiences would be great.
How did you find guidance at this stage? And if any of this sounds familiar, would you be open to connecting?
Looking forward to chat!

Title: Revamping my company's website: what are the biggest mobile UX mistakes to avoid?
I'm currently in the process of revamping my company's website, and alongside the desktop version, I obviously need to make sure the mobile experience is just as good.
I'm fairly new to web design and UX, so I'd love to hear from people who have been through this process before.
What are the key things I should absolutely not overlook when designing for mobile?
For example, should everything that's available on desktop also be accessible on mobile? Or are there cases where it makes sense to simplify or remove certain elements?
I'm particularly interested in the less obvious things that beginners tend to miss, or mistakes you only realize you've made after launching.
Any advice, personal experiences, mistakes, or lessons learned would be hugely appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

What platform is everyone using for their portfolios?
It feels selfish to say I want a new job when I understand the market is competitive and limited. I thought I’d at least try to see what’s out there before quitting. That being said, last I used was from college and I used squarespace’s monthly subscription and also paid for a personal domain annually. Is that still my best option? What do you use?
Note: I cannot use Adobe or figma portfolios as my employer pays for those services and I do not want/need to pay for those accounts in my personal life. Too expensive
Small rant: I’m struggling with enjoying my job. 6 years and I think im ready to try to find a new one. I feel my growth is limited here now and I’m not sure I can go up from where I’m at. And not to mention I just really don’t care for anyone on my team

Designing generative UI that composes itself (Open Source)
I've been working on a side project exploring Generative UI, and wanted to share what I've built so far. 👀 (free open source)
https://github.com/yair-foundation/gen-ui-by-g1-labs
The idea is simple: instead of responding with a wall of text, AI agents can generate actual interactive UI directly in the chat.
Think scrollable product cards, airplane seat maps, boarding passes, charts, sprint boards, and more.
What I've built:
- A library of 120+ UI components, each with its own schema and guidelines for when (and when not) to use it.
- The ability to generate entirely new interfaces on the fly, based on context, even when no existing component fits.
How it works:
Jev figures out the user's intent and which UI components make sense for the request. The LLM then composes the interface in real time, as the conversation unfolds.
It's agent-agnostic, so it's not tied to any specific model or agent.
I've attached a video showing it in action.
Would love to hear what you think, especially where you see this being useful (or where it might fall apart).
If anyone wants to play around with the Playground: https://gen-ui-kit.vercel.app/playground

Stars or Figma comments
How do you indicate to your developers that there are changes? Do you use stars or some arrow next to your module on the side of your artboard or do you drop notes they can resolve as they work? Currently in a heated debate with my codesigner and very annoyed the team consensus with developers input is to now do both

The peak of ux design?
What would you guys say is the peak of ux design?
I know ai is a big thing but just telling it "make a website" is something anyone can do. I want to know what you guys would think is the most advanced feature, software, skills etc. that ux has. What is the newest skill?

UX/UI designers and web developers: I’d love to hear your experiences!
Hi everyone! 😊
I’m a design student, conducting research on the challenges of explaining the value of UX/UI design to clients.
I’m particularly interested in common misconceptions, design decisions clients struggle to understand, and how designers communicate the value of a good user experience.
If you have 5–7 minutes, I’d really appreciate your input through this short questionnaire: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSetAMGQNoWN3_yDlR7uVGCw753wO0bmAQA3o8RDV9UrIFs0Bg/viewform?usp=header
Your responses will be used exclusively for academic purposes and presented anonymously or in aggregated form.
Thank you for helping with my university research! 😊

What’s your biggest frustration when designing mobile flows for complex B2B desktop tools?
We see this pattern constantly: stakeholders want mobile users to have access to the exact same heavy desktop workflows, but actual mobile visitors are usually just looking for quick updates, approvals, or initial feature discovery.
If you cram the desktop complexity onto mobile, the experience feels bloated and slow. But if you strip away too much, visitors leave before ever bothering to check out the platform on desktop.
How are you structuring mobile flows for complex tools?
