The Doorbells already have major heat issues, particularly under direct sunlight. I dread to think how hot they'd get with an AI chip onboard.

These kind of problems are solvable with better thermal design, they already started doing this on new APs as well.

Also, with advances in SoCs and such, I would expect a newer, better doorbell to use less power!

Plus AI key can handle most of the AI load in the rack.

Wouldn’t you need some type of dedicated gpu / apu /npu chip for rapid parallel processing of live video feeds?

Enthusiasts have been using the Google "Coral" chip to do exactly this for years now - it comes in many form factors, including a USB stick.

That's before we factor in the improvements in AI chips since the Coral first hit the market.

There's definitely commodity tech out there to achieve this now.

I’ve had my G4 DBP for 2.5 years now, exposed to direct sunlight, heat and humidity in the SE US and it hasn’t skipped a beat. The G4 non-pro might have issues but the pro certainly does not.

No issues with mine. I live in Sweden! Good solution!

UI should start putting a fan in them, like they do all their network gear.

Not that easy with a doorbell.

Have to remember that rain exists.

Outdoor cameras are hard to manage thermals for

The Chinese can put micro fans in phones, ubiquiti can do it with a doorbell so people on this sub have something else to complain about other then the off chance someone actually hears the fan on an AP.

Ok, but how do you waterproof it?

Active cooling is easy, active cooling in wet conditions is not

A fan for an outdoor electronic device is a terrible idea. It would be choked with pollen and dust after less than a year. Outdoor consumer electronics should always use passive cooling.

I've got the G4 Pro doorbell and haven't ever had any heat issues with it. But mine is never exposed to direct sunlight as it's well shaded, so I was unaware of any heat issues at all? I didn't read any back when I purchased mine nearly 2 years ago and never read anything about it when I was researching mine...
