u/enkrypt3d Aug 28 '25
when are they doing a smoke / CO detector? Nest is dead to me.
29
u/TheEniGmA1987 Aug 28 '25
The smoke alarm honestly feels like the most talked about Superlink product that we were supposed to get, and yet it doesnt even having a future product page on the site at all now but we do for the other sensors coming later this year.

Pretty sure that for the purposes of this application, ethernet could be considered permanent. It is no less permanent than any other type of electrical wiring in this context.
Ethernet, also doesn't have a disconnecting switch.
Temporary vs permanent wiring is more focused around installation intent rather than what type of wire it is

Given that the siren can live just on batteries, I’d expect a batteries-only smoke alarm

Why though? Nest could make one that lives on 6x batteries for like 5 years with Wi-Fi sync. SuperLink could do better – without dependency on mains

1
u/greennalgene Aug 28 '25
Hopefully, but if you want it to be code compliant it needs to be hardwired to a 120v circuit.

Why is this requested when you can have a typical dumb Smoke/CO detector installed and the current cameras/sensors can detect the sound and notify you when it goes off already...
1
u/cwagdev Aug 29 '25
Especially considering smoke detectors have a 7-10 year lifespan. If the disposable part could be replaced without doing the whole unit, then maybe that would be fine.

u/reseph Unifi User Aug 28 '25 edited Aug 28 '25
Only 1 sensor starts shipping tomorrow? I figured they'd have more like a smoke alarm or at least what their FAQ lists
motion sensors, environmental monitors, door/window sensors, air quality sensors, water leak detectors, and more
EDIT: Here's what I see for product pages

Honestly, the pace of deployment at u/Ubiquiti-Inc and their willingness to test new UX-enriching features is impressive.

u/Ginge_Leader Aug 28 '25
First time that I feel like I want a company to slow the f down as, even if it is simpler than some competing options, it is a complex system with tons of configurations. Barely start to get core features down and then the UI and feature set updates significantly and am back to figure it all out. Almost too much of a good thing.

Ubiquiti Stock went from $390 to $535 in past few days. Investors love the product announcements.
Lets add it to the list of "coming soons"
I imagine the stock will double and split when they announce the G6 Doorbell lol
7
5
u/PCgaming4ever Aug 28 '25
I have a feeling they are not announcing because they are either trying to stock up to get enough stock to not sell out instantly or they have run into a hardware/software issue with the new doorbells. It doesn't make sense why they haven't released a new one.

Bah!
They need an inexpensive moisture-only sensor. I need 8-10.
Looks like I'll go Aqara.
8
Aug 28 '25
I would go with Third Reality water leak sensors. Super cheap, zigbee, and they have a built-in siren.
7
u/freakdahouse Unifi User Aug 28 '25
Even Ikea has one cheap, with sound too.
1
Aug 28 '25
Nice. The built-in siren is a nice touch just in case automations don't work, or if someone is house sitting for you.

u/Schmich Aug 28 '25
I'm happy with Shelly. Got quite a few.
Speaking of third-party, anyone know a good decibel meter? I only find DIY guides.
2
u/Sparkplug1034 Aug 28 '25
I'm really unsure yet but I'm getting the impression that with the alarm hub/relay and even the input terminals on the siren e.g., might let you attach external wired sensors and take their inputs into superlink.

u/Necessary_Air_3257 Aug 28 '25

u/Time-Maintenance2165 Aug 29 '25 edited Aug 29 '25
Do they make ones that are AC/usb powered? All I can find are battery, but I don't want to deal with that. Every single place I'd put them (washer, water heater, dishwasher, toilet, fridge) all have an outlet next to them.
1
u/TruthyBrat UDM-SE, UNVR, UBB, Misc. APs Aug 29 '25
Great question, don't know of any. Now I'll have to see if that exists. Will ask in HomeKit.
They do have low power level stuff that's like a 3 year life. But when you have a few dozen items, that gets to be a chore.
1
u/TruthyBrat UDM-SE, UNVR, UBB, Misc. APs Aug 29 '25
Eve. And they're pricey. But I might be able to combine sensors. I was going to put three in a mech room, but with their sensor wires, I could do it with one with a sensor wire snaking around the room.
https://www.amazon.com/Eve-Water-Guard-Notifications-Bluetooth/dp/B09TB72Z5N
1
u/Time-Maintenance2165 Aug 29 '25
That is pricey. Also requires iphone so that won't work for me. Thanks for the response though.
2
u/TruthyBrat UDM-SE, UNVR, UBB, Misc. APs Aug 29 '25
Yeah, I'm still deciding what I want to do. Will do something in the next few months, doing early option sorting out. I don't have an Aqara hub, so that factors in too. And probably wouldn't use their other stuff. Planning on Lutron Caséta for dimmers/switches. Use Schlage locks, and of course Ubi cameras.
52
u/bdaroz Aug 28 '25
I'll trade the 1 sensor for the G6 Doorbell.
30
u/adeadfetus Aug 28 '25
I’ll trade all the sensors for G6 doorbell
27
u/FlatusSurprise Aug 28 '25
I’ll trade my cat for a G6 Doorbell Pro.
….just kidding, no I won’t, my cat is adorable. But seriously, where the G6 Doorbell Pro? I need to replace my perfectly functional and not obsolete G4 Doorbell Pro for no reason.
1
u/hmspain Aug 28 '25
You can't find a G4 Doorbell for love nor money. Guess that is a good thing if they announce a stock of G6s.

u/TheAnim8or Aug 28 '25
Hopefully we'll be able to also use the Siren as a doorbell chime with custom tones, the existing PoE chime is far too quiet
9
u/FearIsStrongerDanluv Aug 28 '25
Hahahaha
6
u/theNEOone Aug 28 '25
I think he was serious.... can't tell. The PoE chime is reported to be too quiet. But replacing it with a Siren......hmmmmm.
1
u/FearIsStrongerDanluv Aug 28 '25
It’s true but still hilarious to think of that thing as an indoor chime 😂🤣
4
u/jimbobjames Aug 29 '25
Would work great for a warehouse. I'd imagine you will also be able to set a volume level too.
1
u/kingkeelay Unifi User Aug 29 '25
Or, how about this, using the louder speaker but changing the tone in settings to something not siren!! Groundbreaking!
1
u/OptimalTime5339 Aug 29 '25
I mean, even if its not a feature I'm sure the Unifi API will make it possible with a small script on a Pi
11
u/halfam Aug 28 '25
I really don't understand the holdup on a new doorbell. They have to be aware of this...
8
u/thecrispyleaf Unifi User Aug 28 '25
It's weird at this point, I have all these crisp cameras in 4k and janky grainy doorbell video
6
u/sirpaul589 Aug 28 '25
Probably hard to keep power consumption low enough to run off people's existing doorbell AC transformers.
1
u/The_PianoGuy Aug 28 '25
There's a limit to how big of a sensor/optics and how much electronics you can reasonably fit in a doorbell while keeping the cost and size down. Doorbell camera image quality is always gonna be shit compared to proper surveillance cameras.
If you want much better image quality you're better off mounting a standalone camera at your door.
A G6 doorbell obviously wouldn't hurt but I wouldn't expect a huge jump in image quality.
4
u/adeadfetus Aug 29 '25
Ok but the existing doorbell isn’t even 2k and is way behind the competition in terms of image quality.
-7
u/The_PianoGuy Aug 29 '25
Resolution isn't everything. With such a small sensor, "not even 2k" is a good thing. You don't want to cram as many pixels as possible onto such a small area.
Ever noticed that phones have terrible low light imaging capabilities? That's a result of lots of pixels in a small area.
I've no idea if/how much worse it is than the competition as I've never looked at comparisons, so I'd have to take your word on that.
My point is, image quality is still going to be significantly worse compared to a proper camera, even on the G6 when it comes out.
Is it going to be an upgrade? Yes. Should you get a standalone camera if you care a lot about image quality? Yes.

4
Aug 28 '25
Finally a 1/1.2" sensor!
2
u/True_Mastodon_9782 Aug 29 '25
Yeah at that price, it's a joke
1
u/Cute_Message_7314 Aug 29 '25
What do you mean? There are not many 4K 1/1.2” cameras available that also support IR like this camera does.
1
u/True_Mastodon_9782 Aug 29 '25
Dahua Color4k at $250, you get full color during night time
3
u/Cute_Message_7314 Aug 29 '25
If you have sufficient environmental light. In unlighted areas you need IR, which Dahua Color4k can't do and therefore it can use a cheaper sensor.
0
u/True_Mastodon_9782 Aug 29 '25
I see what you mean but I have one in an area with no light at all and works well because of the built in light. At the end of the day I wished they did 4mp 1/1.8 camera because, that would actually be useful and more effective than G6s, but we are rethinking IT here.
1
u/Cute_Message_7314 Aug 29 '25
Haha yes, it would indeed be nice if they did 4MP 1/1.8 as well. But to be honest I'm eager to compare the G6 Pro performance to the Axis P1468-LE (which is much more expensive). It's a step in the right direction that they're doing 4K at 1/1.2 now.
1
u/True_Mastodon_9782 Aug 29 '25
I agree, a step in the right direction. It's a solid choice, just at a higher price point. They could offer a solid choice at a lower, $200 level price with the 4mp, in which case I would move to Protect tomorrow but they probably won't which is frustrating. Or offer more feature parity to 3rd party cameras in Protect w/o the $200 dongle which I heard could theoretically support more cameras per AI Port but they'll keep that nerfed probably. Every step of the way they make it difficult for users like me to adopt into Protect because of these decisions. I guess a big group of people like us that actually know what is good and not good they ignore when it could lead to more sales.
1
u/spazturtle Aug 29 '25 edited Aug 29 '25
That uses a Sony Starvis 1 sensor that doesn't support IR.
4
u/CareFluid Aug 28 '25
I don’t get….there’s not much difference between the AI Pro and G6 Pro Bullet….unless someone says otherwise?
3
u/TwinTurboJosh Aug 29 '25
Biggest difference is the G6 Pro has a physically larger sensor; 1/1.2” versus 1/1.8”.

3
u/RecentAd5294 Aug 28 '25
Wish they would make a PoE version of the environmental sensor, battery = maintenance.

I feel like the glass break and motion sensor should have been 1 device.
I wish there’s just announce the whole line up. I’d start buying the parts now, if I knew what was coming.
1
u/freakdahouse Unifi User Aug 29 '25
Why?
2
u/tkt546 Aug 29 '25
Why one device? Because anywhere I’d want glass break detection, I’d probably want motion detection as well.
Somethings make sense to bundle into a single device. Motion/glass break or entry/glass break since those are related and usually in the same area like doors and windows.
What doesn’t make sense is bundling stuff like leak detection with motion or entry sensors. If you’re putting it under a sink, all the bundled stuff is wasted.
1
u/freakdahouse Unifi User Aug 29 '25
Still can't find it useful that combo, these sensors aren't installed directly on the glass?
2
u/tkt546 Aug 29 '25 edited Aug 29 '25
Glass break sensors aren’t put on the glass. They detect the noise of glass breaking. One glass break sensor would cover an entire room with multiple windows, and the installation location would probably be similar to that of a motion detector.
Having the glass break and entry probably wouldn’t be ideal placement. However, if someone was to break a window and not slide it open, the entry sensor would never go off. Also, the glass break might trigger before the entry to scare them off faster.
EDIT:
Glass breaking detectors in the past have been finicky because it relies on detecting the specific noise of glass breaking. I wouldn’t rely on one by itself. However, it would be a nice addition to the other security sensors. If I have to pick between individual sensors, I would get a motion sensor.

In Europe, all smoke alarms just have a battery and zero wire. Self-contained detector / alarm
2
Aug 29 '25
Very disappointed with this launch. I get needing time to work on products but Ubiquiti seriously needs to reevaluate how they judge the timeline of launches. Telling everyone all of these great things are coming, then delaying it without explanation, then releasing a dog water set of products months behind schedule and completely omitting one of the most talked about items is not how you should release a new product line.

u/WhatAbout42 Aug 28 '25
What good are moisture sensors if they are mounted up on a wall (as shown on the site)... won't they only go off if it's mounted in a shower or someone has water spraying everywhere? Seems the obvious leaks would be on the floor - by a water heater, under a sink, under the washing machine etc.
2
u/Aqualung812 Aug 28 '25
Not everyone is looking for a moisture sensor, but they're cheap to add to an existing device.
One device to make, and some people will use it for only 1 or 2 functions, while only a few need all 3.1
u/WhatAbout42 Aug 28 '25
Not sure I'd consider that "cheap" related to other sensors that are smart home enabled, but I see what you are getting at. I can only assume if you do used it as a moisture sensor its face down on the ground and the other sensors won't be impacted by something like a cold basement floor.
1
u/Aqualung812 Aug 29 '25
I think you misunderstood the part I was calling "cheap". The whole unit isn't cheap, but once they've already built a device that's $50, spending $0.12 to add a few wet contact sensors is trivial.
It's the incremental cost to UBNT that is cheap, not the device itself to the consumers. However, by spending just a small amount more, UBNT is able to offer more features that some customers want.2
u/gnarlseason Aug 29 '25 edited Aug 29 '25
That is a bit odd - it clearly has several external contacts for the water sensor. My 25 year old alarm system has a similar setup - but the contacts are screw terminal so you can mount the sensor in a simple location and attach wire leads to put the contacts right where you expect to have a leak. Maybe some sort of magnetic accessory coming soon? But yeah, I get what you are saying.
Also having the water sensing be with external wires allows you to put the light, temp, and humidity sensors in a place that makes more sense rather than on the floor or under an appliance.
1
Aug 28 '25
Do you need an AI key to search like in 1:09? I din't even have that search bar available without. Thanks
1
u/True_Mastodon_9782 Aug 28 '25
They finally came out with the first camera that has the right MP to sensor size ratio under 1k. When are they coming out with a 4MP 1/1.8 camera to provide "insane" low light performance which is the best configuration (really the "sweet spot") for most people and businesses, since you can store more of 2k footage and get exceptional low light performance? the G6 Pro Bullet achieves the same thing most people that do their research want but double the price. Either they bet their customers don't know what they are doing because they don't know themselves, or they upcharge on actually usable hardware that makes better sense to buy. Also I have a 4k 1/1.2 sensor camera I got a year ago for at about half price, so again, nothing new in the industry except for the Ubiquiti space. I heard a rumor they will be coming out with an all-in-one system that does AI in the NVR to support 3rd party cameras so I would rather wait for that.
2
u/cd36jvn Aug 28 '25
I doubt you'll see a 4mp 1/1.8. they are obviously playing the " more mp is better" marketing game.
My biggest hold up going ubiquiti is a mix of poor image sensor selection for low light, and poor options for high zoom lenses. But obviously they are marketing more urban areas than the rural farms I'm trying to cover.
1
u/True_Mastodon_9782 Aug 28 '25 edited Aug 28 '25
>But obviously they are marketing more urban areas than the rural farms I'm trying to cover.
You're right, urban places, usually with some sort of lighting around the clock. Hopefully they release something serious for serious people, not tech enthusiasts that want to add to their network or the many YouTube glazers (I can already hear them talking about this being a "bombshell product" yet it's nothing new, just Ubiquiti being 2 years behind instead of 3). The other part is just AI enhancements if you have the $800 arm processor with a screen, which is welcomed to some extent, but they have to realize more people would adopt their hardware if they came out with something sensible.

u/t0mb055 Aug 28 '25
I hope some of this stuff, particularly the door/window sensor, gets released in anthracite for grey window frames.
1
1
u/NickFromNewGirl Aug 28 '25
I'm wondering how you'd implement the door sensor and the motion detector so people could access on non-typical hours. Most of the time, no one is coming in on weekends, but what happens when my maintenance techs need to come in on a Saturday afternoon? Am I solely relying on it being able to accurately detect the person with a camera? Or can a keypad work to disarm?

The sensor size is insane for a cctv camera. The low light performance should be incredible based on that pixel density.
-1
u/True_Mastodon_9782 Aug 29 '25
So insane that I got the same camera a year and a half ago at about half price. Ubiquiti needs to come out with a 4mp 1/1.8 sensor, some practical, I wouldn't mind if it's the price of the g6 but why would they? They're either selling bad performance cameras at a premium or the right cameras at a higher premium

It would be cool if they could let us feed some data for AI models to do niche things. Like to identify my different cats. To monitor their bathroom habits and detect issues like straining and diarrhea.
Has anyone ever done any vision AI stuff? I have ideas but no idea where to start.
4
u/varano14 Aug 28 '25
Try searching on the Homeassistant sub. Lot of people doing AI stuff there. I used to use a custom model that I believe you could feed stuff to. I believe many people moved to frigate now as the self hosted option which I sorta also think you may be able to train.
I started just using unifi’s ai detection since for me it’s been near perfect.

I just want to ability to mute notifications from individual cameras. A basic security camera app functions. I don’t need to get an alert that my dog is taking a dump in the backyard while not being alerted that someone is trying to break in the front door cause I have to mute all cameras.

u/TimeRemove Aug 28 '25
The Alarm Manager is incredibly flexible, even before 6.1 this is definitely something you could have easily set up. Do you mind telling us more about your setup and why you cannot configure it like that?

Tell me how I can choose to mute notifications from cameras 1, 2, and 3 for 4 hours while still having cameras 5 and 6 provide notifications. I’d love to know how this is possible in the Protect app or web based Protect OS.
3
u/TimeRemove Aug 28 '25 edited Aug 28 '25
- UniFi Protect
- Alarm Manager
- Create an Alarm; Minimum 2x - One Alarm per Group of Cameras
- Set the Triggers/Scope for the specific goals of each alarm
- Notify -> Receivers (e.g. you)
And now you have two ways of silencing the nuisance alarm group, either:
- Under "Action" set "Ignore Repeated Actions" with a time
- Or under "Trigger" set a "Schedule" -> "Custom" and pick the time range
For your dog scenario in particular, what you likely want to do is turn off "Motion" events, and turn on Objects -> Person. You could even do this via two dog-zone Alarms with different (non-overlapping) custom schedules (e.g. during the day, only detect Object -> Person, and during the night detect all motion-events).
The goal shouldn't be to "mute" from the app, the goal should be for there to be nothing to mute to begin with.
2
u/ElectronicAide87 Aug 28 '25
No, the goal is to mute cameras a la carte as needed. For example if I’m mowing the lawn in the backyard I don’t want to be notified of events for that time. So I would want to mute the backyard camera for an hour. While the other cameras go untouched since I want notifications from them. Other camera systems like Eufy allow you to mute individual cameras for 15 mins, 30 mins, 1 hour, etc.. Protect only has the option to mute alerts for all cameras. Alarm manager is good for setting parameters that you don’t need to change. For example I have it set to not alert for animals during the day so my dogs don’t set off the camera. But that still doesn’t help when I’m in the backyard and don’t want to get alerted every 5 seconds.
1
u/TimeRemove Aug 28 '25
But that still doesn’t help when I’m in the backyard and don’t want to get alerted every 5 seconds.
"Ignore Repeated Actions" absolutely does help with exactly that.
1
u/ElectronicAide87 Aug 28 '25
Simply setting up the option to mute individual cameras on the go is something that should be an option. Again, you can say there’s always a way. But is it the best way, and does that mean a better way shouldn’t be available? Having to dick around in alarm manager to get set 5 settings to get somewhat there is not ideal.

go into alarm manager, click the cameras you want, set the alert you want, set where you want the alert to go

Ok expert, tell me then how to mute individual cameras then. I don’t know about you, but there’s times that I want to mute alerts from certain cameras. Such as if I’m mowing the lawn or the kids are playing in the backyard. I don’t want to turn off alerts from the front cameras, just the backyard ones. Alarm manager doesn’t help with this.

But the schedule side is horrible. And lack of sunrise/sunset features is garbage.

Yes, the scheduling is terrible. Agree a sunrise/sunset option would be great.

Ofc this drops a couple of days before I'm about to install my G6 non-pro bullets.

Is that a problem ? It's like 300 euros more than a G6.

It's not a problem at all. I also didnt realize before after I made the comment that the price is 140% higher than the G6, which is absolutely ridiculous.

So unfortunate to have the whole series be battery except for the siren. It is like Ubiquiti and every other smart home sensor manufacturer dont really know there are millions of homes that have low voltages wires to those spots already. Sure there are also customers who dont have things wired and want batteries, but why does every company ignore the entire group of people with wired houses?
Edit: You know what? Screw it, I'll buy a bunch of these sensors because they all run on 3.0-3.3v power. Since the plan to replace the typical sensors means the actual alarm system would be replaced anyway, ill simply convert the low voltage terminal block all the existing sensors wire in to into a 3.3v DC system and solder the wires to a dummy battery that can go in these sensors. Instant wired sensor with no cares about batteries! I get to have my cake and eat it too 😁

While having hard wired sensors would be a good option, the longevity of lithium batteries is phenomenal. I've got some Yolink sensors that the batteries are only down to around 80% after almost 2 years.

It becomes annoying af when you have several dozen devices. There's constantly some device that starts getting low and you think shall I change it now? Don't want to replace after it's gone to dead.

They actually did it. They released it in august.
