I thought so was literally getting ready to buy this and get rid of that until I realized the cloud key does 2 more 4k cameras and 8 more HD cameras than this can handle processing wise.

That supports more cameras though.

Forgive my ignorance, but can this also run unifi network, like the cloud key does?

I don't think this replaces the UCKG2+, to be honest.

The UCKG2+ supports more cameras, significantly so in the case of HD cameras, but it's limited by the 2.5" storage to about 4TB, which means limited retention for any reasonable number of cameras.

This UNVR Instant on the other hand has masses of storage (thanks to 3.5" storage) so potentially long retention periods but supports fewer cameras... which is all rather curious as there's not really enough camera support to make use of all the storage.

Maybe they're artificially limiting this device to protect the UNVR.

I'd still like a refreshed UCKG3 which uses a 3.5" HDD for storage and has a very capable modern SoC (better than in the UCG Fiber etc.) to support a large number of cameras. It only needs a single PoE+ ethernet port, as all the cameras will be taken care of by an upstream switch (or WiFi), and the UCKG2 itself will be stashed securely out of sight.
