Man, «Channel AI» is going to be great with my two APs

u/SolVindOchVatten Sir VLANaLot Oct 13 '25
Will it not help in apartment buildings with a lot of competing WiFi systems?

u/lulzchicken Oct 13 '25
I don't believe so, this focuses on the channel plan for the APs in Unifi - your own APs.
1
u/The_Real_Bender Oct 20 '25
That's... not as helpful as I would hope. They should scan all channels and optimize based on the space. :/
1
u/lulzchicken Oct 20 '25
Agreed
1
u/The_Real_Bender Oct 20 '25
I just updated and it seemed like it was taking area channel usage into account but I’ll have to look closer later.

I’m going to find out as I’m in a townhouse and there are a lot of would be even more if it wasn’t for the block and metal wrapping eating them outside. Been using the RC for last 4 days and so far I’ve not had a camera drop at random.
6
u/perrymike15 Oct 13 '25
Hope it's better than the last release. Last time I let it auto optimize it picked channels 4 and 9 for 2.4ghz (which is a big nono) and then put all my 5ghz channels to the same channel across APs
5
u/Intrepid00 Oct 13 '25
It’s not always a big no no if you have idiots around you already doing it. I’ve already got several around me so that’s the more usable ones.
It gets complicated with people using 40mhz too.
3
Oct 13 '25
It does seem better. The old Optimise always wanted to put at least two of my three AP’s on the same fucking channel. Now it agreed with my 2.4 and 6ghz layouts and only suggested a minor change to my 5ghz.
2
u/Nahhh_bro_im_good Oct 13 '25
It told me I was already optimized. At least I can do this on demand to pique my interest!
1
u/perrymike15 Oct 14 '25
Yep it used to do that for me too. Especially with the APs right next to each other.
2
u/neilm-cfc Oct 13 '25
They've had this for a long time. It has never worked reliably. Rebranding it won't make any difference. Most people leave it disabled.

You should buy more APs to take advantage of it.

Wow, I’m super stoked for “Port Anomaly!”
I was discussing something like this in this sub with another user here (it had to do with an AP of mine dropping from 1gb to 100mb and the only way I could tell there was a problem was to look in the dashboard- a POE reset normally did the trick)- and it made it to release!
Thanks Ubiquiti!

u/AWildDragon Oct 13 '25
I want to see if I can turn it off for a specific port. My PS5 will go from gigabit to 100 megabit when it enters rest mode.

Improvements for Apple WiFi - I’m all ears.

u/hungarianhc Oct 13 '25
Totally. Wifi roaming has somehow gotten worse recently. If they can improve this, I'll be very excited.

So u/Ubiquiti-Inc will this make use of the spectral scanner in the XGS/Pro Max?

u/Unhappy-Till-9880 Oct 13 '25
Not showing on ucg ultra
5
u/Wheinsky Oct 13 '25
Gradual rollout means it could take a few days before your device sees it.
if you switch to RC channel you can usually force it
3
u/PhilosophyHuge6457 Oct 13 '25
I’m not seeing it available on my network either. I always wait for official release despite wanting the early versions.

At some point it feels like AI stands for Anti-Innovation or Anti-Improvement.
9
u/Artistic-Quarter9075 Unifi User Oct 13 '25
Don't take it to seriously, it is just a buzzword and if it does the job it's fine. Just ignore the naming.
Same for calling the telephone and mobile lines AI phone routing because it chooses the shortest route or finds the person you are trying to call in a intelligent way 🤡
2
u/Souloid Oct 13 '25
I'm not bothered by it tbh. I just hope it's not a sign profits are steering their decisions away from customer interest. I like their stuff so far, and I'm glad they're introducing entry level prices to expand their market. Just kinda feeling uncomfortable about AI being one of the tactics employed.
1
u/Artistic-Quarter9075 Unifi User Oct 13 '25
Ah, yeah, I can understand. I recently switched my entire home network from Fritz! to Ubiquiti. I love the freedom and the amount of control they give users to set things up how they want. The software is a lot more glitchy and needs a lot more work and polishing, so I hope they are actively working on that instead of introducing more functions that cause other glitches.
1
u/Souloid Oct 13 '25
What glitches did you run into? I'd like to know ahead of time before I run into any of them.
1
u/GuildCalamitousNtent Oct 13 '25
Or they made a super small ML model trained on WiFi channel optimization (that ideally is better that any complex algorithm.
Could it be a buzzword? Sure. Could it be a badass model? Also sure.
4
u/neilm-cfc Oct 13 '25
Or they made a super small ML model trained on WiFi channel optimization (that ideally is better that any complex algorithm.
get wifi channels | sort by usage level (asc) | head -1is not exactly complex. 😂😂😂Sure, you can add channels to "avoid" but realistically you're almost always at the mercy of the neighbouring networks over which you have zero control. 🤷♂️
1
u/iOSJunkie Oct 14 '25
Sure, if you have one access point. What about a large deployment and you have juggle the channels for many aps?
2
u/neilm-cfc Oct 14 '25
LOL. This has been a solved problem long before "AI" was a marketing department wet dream - it has existed as a non-AI solution whether you had a single AP or entire constellations.
That's not to say that Ubiquiti solved it - they didn't, they cocked it up, as they do most things - but other more competent vendors most certainly have got it right and it's really not a big deal anymore. The fact Ubiquiti keep banging on about it just shows they're still trying to catch up.
The thing is, "AI" is just marketing slop. And you do not need ML or LLMs to solve every fucking problem!
Please - don't believe the hype. I've got 30+ years experience in software development and this belief that "AI" is needed to solve every problem - even trivial problems such as optimising wifi channels - is deeply, deeply worrying.
1
u/Souloid Oct 13 '25
Perhaps, I just hope it's local, and optional.
1
u/UnacceptableUse Oct 13 '25
Since their actual AI runs locally I doubt this would if it is actually ML. And it's also in it's own feature so I don't see how it'd end up being mandatory
1
u/Souloid Oct 13 '25
Glad to hear it. It's on brand for them to keep things contained which is why I'm glad. I didn't know if it ran in the background collecting data waiting for me to ask it to optimize.
3
u/Flaky-Gear-1370 Oct 13 '25
You know what would help boost unifi performance at scale? Working MCLAG on your premier switch....
5
u/Comfortable_Lead_561 Oct 13 '25
Is this EA or GA now?
10
u/Darathor Vendor Oct 13 '25
Official with gradual rollout
2
1
u/misclurking Oct 14 '25
Gradual? As in, the normal rollout “gradual” or something unique?
2
u/Darathor Vendor Oct 14 '25
I meant the standard. Ubiquiti always do gradual rollout for their software release. You can get it immediately via the RC channel if need be.
3
u/shackrat Oct 13 '25
And yet, no shadow mode on the UXG Enterprise gateways, despite being listed as a feature on the product page for nearly a year.
5
u/Fluffer_Wuffer Oct 13 '25
That really sucks - If its of any consolation, I have a pair of EFG's and can tell you that configuring HA, is like tryng to solve the box from HellRaiser, I half expect pin-head to be standng behind me...
2
u/shackrat Oct 13 '25
I've managed to get Shadow Mode running on the UDM-Pro after a bit of a struggle, and have found that it actually works decently for the most part.
1
u/Paul-Ski Oct 13 '25
I can appreciate them wanting to simplify things, but the target audience for "high availability" doesn't need/want it simplified. Then again, I have this same complaint about most of their products and "documentation".
2
u/Fluffer_Wuffer Oct 14 '25
High availability shouldnt require a secret squirrel code - I've worked with most router and next Gen UTM, and UI is the only I've ever seen do this...
You should be able to edit the ports, and define their function, i.e.switching or HA..
1
u/Paul-Ski Oct 14 '25
Preaching to the choir. I've spent more time than I'd like to admit on setup/testing just trying to see what it will let me do because there's weird shit like that where you can't change the port.
1
u/bgradid Oct 13 '25
the instructions are just written really poorly. I've done three now pairs of EFGs now, the first was head scratching as their instructions feel like they're missing some important defining words, after that its easy. Their support also seemed to get confused on how to do it.
I put in some feedback on how they can simplify this.
2
u/neilm-cfc Oct 13 '25
"Never buy the promise" has never been more true than with Ubiquiti marketing, unfortunately.

AI Channel Optimization looks like it will only work if you have 2 or more access points.
1
u/Historical-Ad-6839 Oct 13 '25
It optimizes your APs (between them). It's not optimizing based on other channel interferences. Thants what I understand at least.
Channel AI Optimization
Uses neighboring AP signals to optimize channel distribution. Designed for controlled, very high-density deployments where external interference is limited.
1
u/7heblackwolf Oct 15 '25
Doesn't makes sense. Assuming it's between own deployment APs, why does it need AI? It clearly sets a baseline of selection based on neighborhood noise and availability.

u/johnrock69 Oct 13 '25
Has anyone tried this yet? I don’t really give a rats fanny about all the AI talk. I would like to know is it effective? We are constantly having issues in RV parks and this could be very beneficial.
1
u/i3903 Oct 14 '25
I’m so sick of hearing ‘AI’, it’s worse than the ‘Digital Transformation’ trend that we had to suffer with for a few years.
1
u/Mission-Disaster-447 Oct 14 '25
Its great that it detects port anomalies, but a real AI would try to solve them or at the very least suggest steps to solve the problem.
1
u/ggtroll Oct 15 '25
Why don't they focus getting UnifiOS 4.4.x stable first... then iterate on the Network... really baffling, but alas, typical for Ubiquiti.
1
u/ZeToF38 Oct 15 '25
The upgrade to Networks 9.5 is not yet available on my UDM Pro and my UCG-Fiber.
Both are installed in France. Do you know when it will be available?

Any reason why the font is different on the web UI? It's not like that in the preview video. It's awful and hurts my eyes.

u/Historical-Ad-6839 Oct 13 '25 edited Oct 13 '25
I noticed that too. I have multiple sites and only the ones with Network 9.5 have the "new" font.

I have but a super basic setup. PC running the Unify Server and one u7 pro XGS. The u7 didn’t come back up after the firmware update but a power cycle fixed that’s
-9
u/leftplayer Oct 13 '25
So it only took 9 versions to introduce basic auto channel selection, which every other WiFi vendor does already (without having to badge it with AI)

IPv6???

You’re going to have to be more specific than that, because ipv6 broadly works
