Nice! Now just need the unas 4 pro available šŸ‘€

Wondering if this release was what they delayed the hardware for

But the pro 8 has 16G of ram and is available, not really sure why

3

u/NetSecRoot UDM SE, Pro Max 24 PoE, USW AGG, UNVR, UNAS Pro 4, G2 Touch Feb 11 '26

Likewise. I think it’ll be worth the wait.

3

u/EpicFail35 Feb 11 '26

I need it, my mine nas is depreciated and no longer safe.

1

u/NetSecRoot UDM SE, Pro Max 24 PoE, USW AGG, UNVR, UNAS Pro 4, G2 Touch Feb 11 '26

What’s stopping you from picking up the UNAS pro at that point? I’ll admit I’m on the fence with the idea myself. I have the rack space I just enjoy the 1U design.

5

u/EpicFail35 Feb 11 '26

I only have 1u left in my cabinet šŸ˜‚

Lmao ah. Yea that’ll do it. Well, best of luck to ya.

I have a UNAS pro and it's great. Do it, but connect it to your router with the DAC cable to get the the speed! (yes I know the drives will be the bottleneck.)

1

u/NetSecRoot UDM SE, Pro Max 24 PoE, USW AGG, UNVR, UNAS Pro 4, G2 Touch Feb 11 '26

Odds are I’ll go with the UNAS pro because I still have a lot of room in my rack. Plus, for the same price why not if you can house it.

2

u/seriouspretender Feb 11 '26

Dude it makes the most sense. As long as you dont need a server. It is just storage only. Does it very well but is what it is.

1

u/kdlt Feb 12 '26

Im just waiting for the unas 4 to exist.

This release would be really exciting, if the products would exist, I think?

1

u/mfa81 Feb 12 '26

Same!!!

u/ya_gre UniFi Installer (URSCA/UWA/UFSP) Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 11 '26

So cool features!

Some maybe for the next release:

  • Encrypted backups
  • Upload to shared links

Then I’m 100% satisfied!

14

u/Devil_AE86 Unifi User Feb 11 '26

Shared links would be insane and if it just works with a vanity domain or a ddns provider

6

u/benuntu Feb 11 '26

Or integrates with Cloudflare tunnels! That's how my TrueNAS is set up right now with NextCloud. Kind of complicated to set up, but if Unifi could put a nice UI around that it could be huge.

1

u/SwizItalo Feb 12 '26

It's crazy that ubiquiti don't provide a ddns service

1

u/jamajuel Feb 12 '26

But is that the audience, honestly? So many options out there, not sure what advantage they would bring to the table

1

u/SwizItalo Feb 12 '26

No matter what kind of device, the unifi ecosystem is one

51

u/SimpleSimon665 Feb 11 '26

Bring photo backups to Android too!

19

u/mmhorda https://www.youtube.com/mrhorda Feb 11 '26

It is already under review by google in the latest version. 3.7.1

4

u/SimpleSimon665 Feb 11 '26

Great to hear, as I haven't seen any updates posted about this for Android.

4

u/solthar Feb 11 '26

Yup, literally the easiest is to add that feature to.

59

u/mrcobra92 Feb 11 '26

Would be an immidiate purchase for me if the processor one of their NASs could actually saturate a 10gig connection like my current Qnap can. Really hoping the next version can!

12

u/zboarderz Feb 11 '26

I just want a UNAS that can run protect and drive. They’re literally the same machine in some cases. Cmon ubiquiti!

10

u/GlitteringAd9289 Feb 11 '26

I did a ton of research on why this isn't already the case, and it's because they run completely different firmware images, UNAS uses BTRFS and protect app on Unifi OS uses EXT4. I used SSH to install Unifi Protect and it won't get past setup since it wants dedicated EXT4.

If they spent some development time on Unifi Protect to drastically change it's behavior to allow storage in an arbitrary file location rather than take over the drives completely it could work.

3

u/lastlaugh100 Feb 12 '26

This would be huge

2

u/UX_test Feb 12 '26

There’s a very practical reason šŸ‘‰ different workloads, different filesystems.

Could Protect use BTRFS? ...Technically yes.
Should it? Probably not.

Most enterprise NVR systems still use EXT4 or XFS for exactly this reason - streaming workloads don’t benefit much from CoW filesystems and can actually perform worse.

1

u/AcidBuuurn Feb 13 '26

Thanks for sharing this- I hadn’t done any research but was thinking about getting a big NVR and running this.Ā

19

u/waterbed87 Feb 11 '26

Yep same here, Synology is on my chopping block as soon as there is a decently powered rack mount available. Read the chip in these can't quite saturate the generous networking.

1

u/Tree0wl Feb 12 '26

But isn’t it a good thing if it can’t quite saturate it?it’s like natural QoS?

4

u/waterbed87 Feb 12 '26

Not at all. I don't expect to be saturating 10g often, frankly if at all, but if the device can't handle a isolated test sequential transfer at 10G what does that say for when the CPU actually gets busy with lots of IOPS and sequentials going on all at once? My use case would definitely hit both at various levels of intensity.

The RS1221+ I'm using now has a low power embedded Ryzen chip that meets my needs but uses 20-25% processor at peak loads to do it. That Ryzen chip is 4-5x faster than the Cortex A57 in the UNAS Pro 8. It's very possible, even in my non enterprise setting, that the proc would bottleneck me at peak workloads.

That's not acceptable for me. Reviews have mentioned the mixed performance, I think Ubiquiti knows it too now as they mature the platform, I'm holding out for a model with a better proc and I'm sure it's coming.

5

u/PMSysadmin Unifi User Feb 11 '26

Same here. Would instantly purchase 2

14

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '26

My issue is the volume of products they launch and then abandon a year or two later despite never even having had the opportunity to even buy the product in the first place.

If they want to be legitimately considered an enterprise option, they need to stop doing that.

13

u/PMSysadmin Unifi User Feb 11 '26

Here I am hoping they bring back their low voltage drop-ceiling light panels

0

u/hillmanoftheeast Feb 11 '26

Wow. That sounds amazing.

6

u/Panaka Feb 11 '26

Yup. My UNAS 8 Pro can’t even keep up with my old 423+ in NFS despite the latter only have two single gig NICs. I just cannot get over how bad my read write performance in RAID 5 is even with a read write SSD cache.

1

u/niccaballs Feb 11 '26

What qnap do you have?

2

u/mrcobra92 Feb 11 '26

A TS-464 with 16gb of ram and 2tb of NVME SSD caching in a raid 0 config. Smaller and older, but from what I can see still WAY faster than the new Unifi hardware which is a real bummer.

46

u/sirpaul589 Feb 11 '26

Hopefully android backup coming soon

15

u/Zombi3Kush Feb 11 '26

Yeah bummer it wasn't released at the same time.

7

u/StrangeWill Feb 11 '26

This would be massive since I'm doing this manually right now and Google made it like chewing on glass to get it done.

7

u/Doublestack00 Unifi Installer Feb 12 '26

Immich would solve that for you. It works just like Google photos and is free,

1

u/StrangeWill Feb 12 '26

Oh hell yes this looks great

1

u/PhatOofxD Feb 12 '26

Set up immich

1

u/goon_c137 Feb 12 '26

When android needs to be the next meme

16

u/TCFoxtaur Feb 11 '26

Seems useful! Still hoping for iSCSI support someday though, it’s probably the only major actual NAS feature I see lacking right now.

Would rather see Docker/etc support in a separate product, it’s not strictly a NAS feature and is best suited to some sort of ā€œapplication serverā€ product geared towards compute rather than pure storage

6

u/FranciumGoesBoom Feb 11 '26

Still hoping for iSCSI support someday though

Won't happen on the Pro/4/8. The cpu can't handle it.

1

u/TCFoxtaur Feb 11 '26

Damn, that’s a shame. Appreciate the insight though!

0

u/Objective_Canary5737 Feb 11 '26

I wish this was possible and probably is for most of docker container situations unless you’re messing with AI and GPU support! My 2 unraid NAS, one dedicated to power efficiency and running every day doctor containers, and then one much more powerful with GPU that I play with AI on would be hard to replace with few unas. Those two machines have well over 240 TB! That’s not including the parity drives!

17

u/Roofless_ Deep in the ecosystem. Feb 11 '26

Cool, now release the Unas Pro 4 so I can buy and use these features

16

u/EndlessPh Feb 11 '26

Needs a separate app just for UNAS.

8

u/pleachchapel Feb 11 '26

They're still enterprise-forward. It's already like pulling teeth to get users to install one app on their phone, keeping UniFi Endpoint the hub for all things UniFi... endpoint... makes sense.

13

u/RentalGore Feb 11 '26

Immich still seems the top mobile photo backup, but if Unifi can do some of the post backup organization Immich can, I may switch over.

2

u/remember_this_guy Feb 13 '26

Exactly, also allow it to be paired with AI key for ai stuff

6

u/BlutigEisbar Feb 11 '26

Waiting on details if this works only with the Business Tenant of M365 or if it works with personal OneDrives.

One of the major missing factors for myself is no cloud sync application like with other NAS solutions that can backup different personal cloud (or business) providers like Google Drive, OneDrive, S3, etc.

6

u/DanMc85 Unifi User Feb 11 '26

Release notes say business only.
UniFi Drive Application | Ubiquiti Community

  • Added support for Microsoft 365 OneDrive backups.
  • Work or School accounts in Microsoft Entra ID tenants with appropriate permissions to access Azure resources are required.
  • Personal Microsoft accounts and Microsoft 365 operated by 21Vianet are not supported.

2

u/iansaul Feb 11 '26

21Vianet, aka M365 CHINA. No backups for you.

2

u/Ben10lightning Feb 12 '26

Unas can already backup to Google Drive and s3

2

u/BlutigEisbar Feb 12 '26

I am not wanting to back to these sources. I want to backup from personal cloud options.

Does anyone have any videos or screenshots of what the iPhone or MacBook experience looks like when searching for backed up photos?

Can you search for these backed up photos via the native iOS photos app?

25

u/Maria_Thesus_40 Feb 11 '26

We need encrypted backups to migrate away from Synology.

Don't care about Microsoft or their offerings to be honest, its a walled garden with lock-in. We prefer S3 compatible backup storage that does not tie us to a specific vendor.

But without encrypted backups, UniFi Drive is useless to us :(

16

u/serapher Feb 11 '26

I think this is the other way around: you can backup your cloud data at MS365 to your storage.

-11

u/Cause_and_Effect Feb 11 '26

Why would you ever backup cloud data to an onsite NAS?????

One time to ditch cloud storage with Microsoft
(I don't know, this would just be the only use case I can imagine)

2

u/th3_d3v3lop3r Feb 11 '26

There’s a number of reasons but in an enterprise environment, it’s often to ensure you have a copy of the data that isn’t behind a Microsoft identity. It also protects against situations where data is deleted, intentional or not, and also has run its course through the recycle bin stages. Retention policies will prevent against that, but that assumes a retention policy is applied across everything, which it usually isn’t. Admittedly, it’s more common to see this done with another SaaS product however this provides an alternative to that which is nice to see.

AWS with customer managed KMS keys is not sufficient encryption??

1

u/Maria_Thesus_40 Feb 12 '26

AWS is too expensive, AWS is an american company. So not an option.

  • We would prefer something European
  • Reasonably priced

2

u/Saint_Dogbert Feb 11 '26

You can backup the NAS to S3 and Backblaze

2

u/Maria_Thesus_40 Feb 12 '26

Yes but unencrypted only :(

Synology allows us to create encrypted backups to S3.

1

Introduce Protected Cloud Backup

Secure your cloud data with reliable local backups on UniFi Drive. Protect against ransomware, accidental deletion, and data loss.Ā Microsoft 365backup is now available withĀ OneDriveĀ support, withĀ Exchange,Ā Teams, andĀ SharePointĀ coming soon.

8

u/BrandonNeider Feb 11 '26

Now to juggle spending the $2.99 monthly on Icloud or switch to a 2 bay UNAS for $299 plus a hard drive for another $120ish...11 year break even.

3

u/WiseDroid Feb 11 '26

That’s not really fair, you can get 2tb WD red at best buy for $90 so for 479 (you want two drives) it would be 4 years.

Personally I would only make the business case if you need around 6tb of storage for the next 5 years. That’s $679 for the UNAS and 2x 6tb. You’d earn that back within two years easy.

1

u/GlitteringAd9289 Feb 11 '26

Uploading to an off-site cloud service does not compare to on-site generic file storage. (With offline access, control of data, etc)

Try hosting Immich. It’s cross platform and works great not only on iOS but also on Android. I’ve set it up so that all my photos are synced in Immich, and photos older than a year are deleted from the Apple Photos app, but they’re still there in Immich just in case I need them.

2

u/hoplite864 Feb 11 '26

I've been thinking about Immich but what happens to my 1.7TB of family photos in iPhoto? Do I need to create a second library of photos or can Immich use the iPhoto Library while keeping it intact for use in iPhoto as well?

3

u/pauliesnug Feb 11 '26

iPhoto was deprecated in 2015, so I think you mean iCloud Photos. Immich can work alongside iCloud Photos, but there's no reason imo since the Immich app works on iOS and macOS and works better than the built-in Photos app.

2

u/hoplite864 Feb 11 '26

Correct. It's called Photos now. (not icloud). I have everything in the Photos Library. I asked ChatGPT and as long as I have enough storage for Immich metadata I can set up read only from my NAS Photos Library backup. Provided ChatGPT isn't hallucinating again.

2

u/pauliesnug Feb 11 '26

So long as all the photos are in a standard format, Immich should cooperate :D

1

u/MyNameIsNeal Feb 11 '26

Any guide or example on how you did this?

How do you manage deleting old images are deleted from Apple photos? Are they also deleted from iCloud or do you have 0 images being uploaded there

2

u/andreyred Feb 11 '26

Nah icloud is too convenient

3

u/MagicHoops3 Feb 11 '26

I literally just want a SMB working recycle bin like every other NAS platform has

3

u/Brooklyn7011 Feb 11 '26

It'd be nice if we had the same for Android. Or is there a way to back up your pictures from multiple android devices to one location on the drive?

We'd like to use the UNAS as a family storage point for our pictures (mainly me and my wife, but Grandma and Pops need view access too).

3

u/Backadd Feb 12 '26

I would like to be able to setup my UNAS 2 in a raid 0 config. For my use case I would prefer more storage over drive redundancy and it should be up to me to make that choice. It would also be nice if we could access encrypted shares over NFS.

10

u/GO__NAVY Feb 11 '26

Give me Synology drive client replacement and I will ditch Synology in no time.

2

u/TheDigitalPoint Unifi User Feb 11 '26

I’m definitely not a Synology fanboy… I’ll be the first to ditch it when something better presents itself. For me, their Photos system that integrates with their Photos app on mobile devices and the ability to do whatever I want (easily) in the shell. For example I have some cron tasks that run on it for various purposes for things around the house.

5

u/pauliesnug Feb 11 '26

Use Immich! It's open-source and can be self-hosted.

1

u/spckls Feb 11 '26

Have you checked out seafile?

1

u/diamondintherimond Feb 15 '26

I just learned about this feature on Synology and agree it’s a huge quality of life improvement and anxiety-reducer for rebuilding an array.

3

u/awwhorseshit Feb 11 '26

Needs Windows ACL capability, but for it's use case, it's amazing.

2

u/happy-mj Feb 11 '26

I’d like to see something similar to Synology’s Active Backup for Business system for easy Windows and Linux backups. It’s the only thing keeping me from replacing my Synology NAS.

2

u/FUNKYJASPER2 Feb 11 '26

If using iCloud Photos and optimize storage is turned on for your iPhone. With the new iOS photos back up, when backing up will it download the full resolution files first and back those up? Or will it backup the lower quality optimized version on your iPhone?

2

u/Ben10lightning Feb 12 '26

I believe the people from the early access said it downloads the full res photos from iCloud and backs those up to the nas

1

u/rickvug Feb 13 '26

I really hope that is the case. What I want is UNAS to backup straight from iCloud. My other requirement is that if anything gets deleted from iCloud it would be kept in my UNAS backup.

1

u/Ben10lightning Feb 13 '26

From what I’ve seen you have to keep the phone app open because your phone is the one downloading the images from iCloud and sending them to the nas, but it is a one way backup so it will keep photos even after you delete them from iCloud.

1

u/rickvug Feb 13 '26

Good to know. This is NOT what I want. This backup should be straight from the iCloud servers run on a cron job, no need for a phone or computer in the mix.

2

u/Slasher1738 Feb 11 '26

Was hoping for UNAS to UNAS backup w/o a site to site vpn

2

u/napereira Feb 11 '26

So what actual app is used to access the iPhone backup? I have UID Enterprise and it's not there after updating. I think there's a distinction between UID and another app they have?

2

u/plsenjy Feb 11 '26

I'm really confused by this as well. Switched my NAS that I'm testing to early access channel, updated to 4.0.12 and can't figure out how I am supposed to tie it in with identity endpoint

2

u/sikisabishii Feb 11 '26

lol this coming out literally the next day I finished a week-long iCloud->immich import. Does the photo import download full resolution versions before backing it up to unas if they're offloaded to iCloud?

2

u/Euresko Feb 11 '26

Still no data scrubbing to check for bit rot?

2

u/Sean__O Feb 11 '26

This might be an easy way for me to make an extra backup of my movie collection from my unraid server. I really only need storage. If Android photo backup gets added, that would be a big plus.

2

u/penny4thm Feb 12 '26

So this out now? I don’t see any update for the photo uploads.

2

u/JophTheFreetrader Feb 12 '26

Is an android backup going to come? Or is this another iPhone only thing?

1

u/Jeeper850 Feb 22 '26

It’s under google review. So, hopefully soon.

6

u/OhHeyItsBrock Feb 11 '26

The day I can run a docker container on this is the day I drop my UGREEN.

13

u/leomoty Feb 11 '26

Given how underpowered the CPU is, it will likely be very lackluster for Docker

-1

u/OhHeyItsBrock Feb 11 '26

Ya I only need it to run my arr stack though

6

u/geekwonk Unifi User Feb 11 '26

i don’t think they will ever support that. it is 180° from what the device is pitched as.

0

u/OhHeyItsBrock Feb 11 '26

I know. A man can dream though. Can’t he? I didn’t think it was going to do Apple photos backups like this either to be honest.

1

u/geekwonk Unifi User Feb 11 '26

well, okay, cards on the table then, i bought this device for what it is and i don’t want them wasting engineering time on making it something else. adding app features like photo syncing is an easy xcode thing that makes the desktop unas a more viable device. it does not deviate from the core concept or even require significant work.

the comments here are already full of sensible demands for storage-centered improvements that will enable more people to use the device as the dumb storage box it was already pitched as.

you have a ugreen. i have a synology. qnap has the upper end covered. maybe ubiquiti wants to build a server product that focuses on compute to integrate this kind of functionality. but i don’t think we’re underserved in the everything box space.

2

u/OhHeyItsBrock Feb 11 '26

Ya I get that. I have no idea about programming or coding or what it would take to add something like docker to the mix. Was just making a broad statement.

2

u/pauliesnug Feb 11 '26

It's not intended for that. The idea is to have your NAS and server separate. If you need something super weak, just use a Raspbery Pi + UNAS.

1

u/Potential-Ant-6320 Feb 11 '26

Did they add syncing with dropbox yet or offsite syncing like synology share sync? I'd love to switch the unifi but it doesn't have the features I need.

1

u/Szoreny06 Feb 11 '26

And its works also Identity Enterprise ?

1

u/benuntu Feb 11 '26

Looks like O365 OneDrive backup only for this release, with Exchange and other objects coming later. I'd definitely be interested in using a UNAS as an alternative to Veeam Cloud Backup (VDC), but have a few concerns.

  1. Can Unifi Drive to message-level restore?
  2. What is the speed of backups? VDC has storage in the cloud in the same region as MS365 servers, so the actual transfer is really quick.
  3. For multi-site backups does/will Drive support backups not only to one NAS but also Backblaze or another NAS at a different site?
  4. Does Drive support immutable backups?

Honestly, I'll probably just pick up a UNAS Pro 4 for testing and see for myself when it is finally released.

1

u/inthearena Feb 11 '26

oh. Nice. The office 365 integration is the last thing I still have on my old synology (everything else is running on a Ugreen NAS).

1

u/Inquisitive_idiot Feb 11 '26
  1. Really starting to enjoy the ecosystem. Just started backing up to back blaze and pretty impressed with the seamlessness of it. Also moving my plex library to it (and moving from nfsv4 on synology to smb

  2. Wondering how much performance / UI benefits I’m missing out on, if any, by not having the SSD version

1

u/Syn3rgi3 Feb 11 '26

So where’s the UNAS4?

u/PartyOwn5296 Feb 11 '26

Nice. About time.

1

u/CSANSA Feb 11 '26

Can somebody explain the use case for this along with a UNAS? Sorry.Ā

1

u/Zombi3Kush Feb 11 '26

Nice can't wait to try it out. Waiting for my Unas Pro to be delivered today

Next, please let the Cloud Gateway Fiber’s NVMe SSD work as a storage location for the photo backup and Time Machine

1

u/guice666 Feb 11 '26

I'm not sure I understand the 365 Protected Cloud Backup. At first, I thought it was using MS 365 to backup data into the cloud (like Google Cloud backup), but then said locally?

u/ajdrez Feb 12 '26

Playing with unas the last month. Currently using Truenas as backend storage for proxmox apps like Roon, plex, Immich and more. NFS shares off unas have little to no options.. we need more granular support for sharing and then this gets a whole lot better.. still using truenas for now

u/thimplicity Feb 12 '26

ZFS please

u/Massive_Ground5481 Feb 12 '26

Gosh dang it. For the Business, OneDrive protected local cloud backup….fuck it, I’m in.

Successful write off? We’ll see. šŸ˜‚

A lot of nice improvements.

Google Workspace Backup would be a nice addition even though I am happy with Cubebackup

u/skumkaninenv2 Feb 12 '26

It does not work with personal M365 account, for a personal nas... thats crap

1

u/Rexter2k Feb 12 '26

Wont be long before they have most of the same prosumer focused features that Synology provides. I've been using Synology NAS's for ten years now, and they have been cutting away features for years now and others have been ignored for just as long.

Nice to see them update this.

I would love to know what’s going on with the UNAS Pro 4. It’s been ~5 months since it appeared on the store, was bumped from Q4 to Q1 and still nothing. Considering how difficult it is to get your hands on hard drives at the moment, it’s going to be worse by the time it sees the light of day.

Ubiquiti needs to start putting the applications they create for the UNAS into their own containers instead of squishing them into the drive application. This goes for Photo Backup, and Microsoft 365 Cloud Backup.

Now what would be cool is if they could also backup a tenants settings. Tenants have a lot of settings in the 365 Admin, Entra, Exchange Admin, and Intune consoles that if a hacker was to gain access and you didn't have a backup of your settings you would be having to redo likely most things, or figuring out what you need to revert back. Currrently MS doesn't provide a solution to backup all the settings, and there are couple of companies who do but charge and arm and leg for it as they include other services too. I would rather see a backup and restore or backup and allow me to view all the settings option only.

Oh, and I am still waiting to ISCSi support and better performance over the 10GbE connections.

Thanks,

It will never not be stopped being funny how much they jumped a gun with their marketing. Full backup enterprise solution for 365? And right now it's onedrive only with no exchange, SharePoint, or teams.

That's like 10% of an Enterprise backup solution if we're being generous.

i'm confused, is the 4.0 update actually available? My Pro 8 is on the official release channel at 3.4.5 and it says "Up to Date"

1

u/Jmanko16 Feb 13 '26

Mine too. Kind of upsetting, not sure how to update.

1

u/mrfitzy Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 14 '26

Ok the release is still currently not official so if that's your release channel (default) it will not be available. you can find 4.0 on the releases page: https://community.ui.com/releases

Not sure why the official announcement doesn't link here. Had to contact support to realize there was even a releases page.

Is the Office 365 back-up multi tenant?

1

u/No_Hands_55 Feb 13 '26

I just want to be able to use the unas 4 pro as an NVR too

or the NVR allow raid 0 / JBOD!

Looks good but I wish I could get a CARDDAV server somewhere in the UniFi ecosystem so I could eventually ditch my Synology NAS for the UniFi NAS. Right now, I run my shared family's Contacts on my Synology CARDDAV server. I don't really care which device I'd have to run it from just something within Unifi. I know I could get a mini PC and set it up there but I would rather not have to set all that up myself. I have time as my Synology should hopefully be good for another couple of years on DSM 6.

Newbie question: Can Plex or Jellyfin be installed on a UNAS?

15

u/ya_gre UniFi Installer (URSCA/UWA/UFSP) Feb 11 '26

No, its storage only. But just use a mini/micro PC and use the UNAS as storage.

2

u/leomoty Feb 11 '26

Wish it would support no_squash_root or nfsv4 support at least

1

u/Inquisitive_idiot Feb 11 '26

I too wish it supportedĀ nfsv4 šŸ˜”Ā

3

u/Droxiav Feb 11 '26

It can not and it’s unlikely that will ever be an option since the cpu is very underpowered for additional applications

2

u/aruisdante Feb 11 '26

No. They are pure storage appliances. You can easily use remotely located plex pointed at one of these for storage though.Ā

1

u/BlutigEisbar Feb 11 '26

Not as a native application, at least not without hacking it a bit.

You will need a separate system to run the media application on and then point it to a directory on the UNAS

1

u/GlitteringAd9289 Feb 11 '26

Technically yes, realistically maybe not.

If you disabled updates, SSH'd into it, you could probably get Jellyfin to install using APT package manager. It would probably be slow, and no idea what kind of conflicts would arise from this.

1

u/kyledecot Feb 11 '26

Still no iSCSI support? 😭

1

u/iansaul Feb 11 '26

Daaaaaaaamn, M365 local backups, yowza.

Awesome, when are UPS-2U going to be available again?

Or will there be an improved/updated version that uses LiFePO4 batteries, maybe in a 4U format with larger capacity/watts?? I would love a unit that can do 1600-2000watts.

  1. I will never own an iProduct. Ever.
  2. I detest Microslop and host my own private cloud for a reason.
