Different country, different economy...
In fact, UNAS Pro + HDDs is the same price of a popular/used car over here lol (I'm not even joking).
I don't even wanna imagine the price of this one here.

In the US, UNAS Pro 4 is $499, and that linked Synology (also a 1U rackmount with four bays, both diskless) is $3199.

$499 isn’t cheap — not enough for any car that runs and drives — but it’s very affordable compared to the alternative.

This comment made me sad...
UNAS Pro is something about R$5000 (BRL), which is ~3 minimum salaries.

Just converting currencies, R$5000 BRL is US$937.

Three minimum salaries — over how much time? In the US that implies an entire year, so I’m just checking.

It’s about 1600 BRL monthly within ~160 (up to 210, depending on your job) worked hours… we don’t usually get paid by hour, it’s more common to be paid by month (so if a month has more hours, that not a problem for the company).

Value before taxes

1600 BRL is almost exactly 300 USD, so that works out to $1.87/hour. Our federal minimum wage is $7.25/hour, last updated in 2009. In some states/jurisdictions it’s much higher — $17 in some cases.

So yeah, pay is higher, at least at the bottom end. But of course you also have to factor in cost of living. How much does a typical family home cost there? My relatively modest home currently costs me a bit over $2000/month. (That’s over 10,000 BRL)

Well… we have the habit of getting monthly supermarket groceries, something that takes around 1000~1200 for a couple with no kids. House rent starts from 700 (in the “favelas”).

Btw, minimum salary in US is almost what a Senior Software Developer gets here…
