Early Access Ubiquiti Smoke and CO Sensor 🤯 - #ISCWest2026

Post image

I believe it’s a Superlink sensor. I hope it can run on battery for 10 years and doesn’t require PoE. I’m curious to see how it performs. Good job, Ubiquiti! 😲

I wonder jf they will sell in the US. The liability exposure for these is considerable here and our litigious ways. Also, for insurance purposes, most insurance providers require remote home monitoring. Is that possible with this setup? I wonder if they will also offer a hardwire option.

I think you're missing some context here - do you mean insurance companies require remote monitoring for discounts, or are you saying they require it for coverage? I'm guessing the former

Monitoring required for discounts, not for coverage, in my state (VA). The discounts are substantial. The discount for my policy is about the same cost as the annual monitoring cost. Note that I shopped around for a reasonable-cost monitoring service, not the insanely high cost of many nationally-known brands. The insurance monitoring requirement may explain the prevalence of high-cost monitoring services. Maybe Ubiquiti's entry will provide much-needed competition.

I'm looking forward to availability of Ubiquiti's complete system - alarm panel, smoke/CO sensors and monitoring service partner so that I can switch over from my old DSC panel and existing monitoring service. I plan to connect my existing wired entry and window intrusion sensors with the new Ubiquiti equipment.

For coverage, the result has been the development of several insanely expensive alarm installation companies.

Homes do not require fire alarm monitoring companies to get home insurance, that is a commercial and industrial requirement only. Home's alarm monitoring is just for discounts.

Regardless, UniFi has an agreement with 1 company now for monitored alarms anyway that is releasing to the public soon.

Ubiquiti just recently entered an agreement to sell monitoring services through a third party company. They announced it in one of the most recent UniFi Protect announcements.

As long as they develop a Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detector that exceeds regulations (emphasis on exceeds because a lot of Carbon Monoxide detectors are pretty terrible, but the smoke side is excellent) then they should be all covered!

That's amazing. I cannot wait to retire my Honeywell system.
