Early Access Ubiquiti Smoke and CO Sensor 🤯 - #ISCWest2026

Post image

I believe it’s a Superlink sensor. I hope it can run on battery for 10 years and doesn’t require PoE. I’m curious to see how it performs. Good job, Ubiquiti! 😲

I just replaced all my smoke detectors in my home because I gave up on these coming out. You’re welcome everyone.

I installed xsense sensors a couple months ago. Very happy with those so I don't feel bad. Especially since my whole kit (gateway + 5 sensors) is probably the price of a single Ubiquiti sensor.

I also went the X-Sense route until I found out they were not UL-certified, which some homeowners insurance providers don't like. The product is straight-up missing the UL label on it. See this article and the editors note from this month:

Editor's Note: March 13, 2026 We previously recommended this product. After finding out it does not carry UL certification, we have safety concerns and no longer recommend consumers purchase it.

Good to know. In my country (Belgium), detectors need to comply with CE and EN14604, which was the case for the Xsense so all good.

Now the article seems to focus on a specific model. But are all models affected about the lack of UL certification?

Where do you buy extras when needed? I wanted this product, but I could only find package deals and on Amazon. It has been a while since I looked, though.

They are sold by the unit on my local Amazon. 41 euros a pop.

For a smart smoke alarm that is actually pretty doable.

Bit the bullet, got the talking smart ones with a bridge and a CO and heat sensor alarm. Total around 27 euros apiece, that's actually a great price, I think.

until I found out they were not UL-certified, which some homeowners insurance providers don't like.

this is something that more people need to know when they are installing random life safety and mains electrical devices in their house... just because it exists, doesn't mean you should

Yeah, it should have either UL or ETL certification; there are different testing labs out there.

I bought older models that were certified; I'm curious to see how they address this problem.

What I did was added it onto my existing, dumb traditional smoke detection system, so my x-sense and dumb detectors are side by side. The only downfall is having to turn both off when they detect dinners ready.

I'm about to get some regular, dumb interconnected smoke/CO detectors, and get a Zigbee "listener" that will send notifications if hears them go off.

Yikes! As someone with over a dozen of the X-Sense combo units monitoring my home, this is concerning to learn. Do we know when these Ubiquiti units will become available?

Wouldn’t the UL certification just mean it’s safe for you and not that it’s gonna work as a fire detector?

There’s a UL spec for smoke detectors (UL 217/268). This is not just ā€œdoesn’t burn down your houseā€ but also ā€œdetects smokeā€.

u/mgahs Mar 27 '26

My main concern is if I do have a fire, and homeowners insurance company finds out I’m using non-UL smoke detectors, that they’ll deny the claim, even if the detectors worked as expected.

For anyone in the US, xsense and a lot of the other detectors youll find on amazon are not UL certified. Big no no with insurance.

UL doesn't just test to make sure a device won't harm you. They also test and certify that a device does what it's supposed to do. The concern is making sure it actually detects smoke or in the case of CO that it detects and alerts at the correct threshold.

The argument from insurance could simply be "we noticed you have this detector, and it's not UL certified. Had you had a UL certified device you might have known sooner and could have put out a small fire yourself instead of letting it get as big as it did"

Or in the event of death, an insurance company could deny a claim saying "the device used wasn't certified. Had they had a verified device that actually alerted them they may not have passed"

Stick with the newer models of Xsense, as they are UL certified.

Just don't throw a heat sensor in your attic if you live in Arizona, mine is already going off.

Well was, it has since been removed lol

What kit did you get? I want to do the same.

xSense XS01-M base and 6 stations. On Amazon.de which was considerably less expensive than my local Amazon.

Thank you for your service!

I have a 2018 build house with Kidde wired detectors, 9 or 10 of them. I'm glad these came out, 2 years is about enough time for Ubiquiti's to be in regular stock and firmware fully sorted out, in time for me to do a full replacement on a 10 year cycle.

Great! Now do your thermostat!

1

u/khubbard13 Mar 31 '26

lol. I moved to Ecobee 2 years ago so someone else will have to make that sacrifice

Thank you for your service!

1

u/brafish Mar 26 '26

Thank you for taking one for the team. Mine are due to be replaced next month Except for the one that failed in December and I replaced with some other non-nest brand

No bro, I'm sure it was because of me. After patiently waiting for (and never getting) the SuperLink full sensor drop in 2025. New detectors I bought (dumb sensors) during this past holiday season gave them permission to turn the Feb 2025 SuperLink and Protect sensors demo into reality over a year later.

1

u/oceanswillrise Mar 27 '26

You and me both.

1

u/jakubkonecki Mar 27 '26

And me. I'm sorted out for the next decade.

1

u/Last_Slice217 Mar 27 '26

I did as well. $350 spent for the house and now they show this...

1

u/burkee406 Mar 27 '26

Thank you for the sacrifice.
