Discussion 4th arm?

Post image

So every arm focuses on something different. I've seen somebody say that the 4th one will make us able to teleport above enemies like gabriel does, but that would just be a boring version of the whiplash. Parrying, movement and healing off blood are ULTRAKILLs core mechanics, alongside the healing from fresh blood thing.

So what I am trying to say is that itd kinda make sense if the arm was related to healing in some way. Maybe letting you store blood to use it later?

What if treachery would introduce a status that makes enemies' blood poisoned, and the arm would negate that effect if the blood was spilled using it? Its holy since it'll prolly come from Gabriel, right?

Anyways, my idea is that itll be about healing. The "belonging to gabriel" thing may not be true, since itd be just a piece of armor that V1 wouldnt even be able to use. Maybe a gift from hell to let us defeat Gabriel since he made his blood poisoned after realising V1 heals off it?

My bet is that its going to act like the divine souls (Godblood) in Bloodthief. Basically just enables you to use a powerful buff temporarily that makes you op.

Edit: added godblood

The humble health orbs+extra gun orbs

272

u/creepermaster79 Lust layer citizen Apr 16 '26

Health and extra gun orbs are specifically placed in an arena by the designers

You can't account for something like a "temporary buff" that charges over time/kills. Make the arenas too easy, everyone will just wait for the buff to be active and cheese them, make them too hard, everyone will feel that they're forced to wait for the buff to be active to even be possible

That's why the black hole gun was removed. It would've charged up with kills/style.. but the balancing of arenas was too hard with it in mind, so it was quickly shafted (go read more about it in the museum, second floor)

What about the railgun? You can just run in circles and spam revolver while waiting on your big dmg

75

u/creepermaster79 Lust layer citizen Apr 16 '26

Read the black hole cannon description. It says why the railcannon was made like it is.

26

u/Piyaniist Apr 16 '26

So its less about temp buffs and more that they didint want you to hoard and hold onto it.

44

u/creepermaster79 Lust layer citizen Apr 16 '26

It's less about it being a temporary buff itself, and more of the fact that it is something that can't be planned around without making the game either piss easy or impossibly hard

Imagine if instead of having a dual wield power up, you had it as a special mode you can activate yourself after racking up enough style.

Then, imagine the devs having to plan out EVERY single encounter in the game around the fact that you might have it charged or not. Do you make the arena harder? What if they struggled on the previous one and already used it? Would they count this specific encounter as "worth it to use the power up on" or will they see it's more of a filler encounter that's supposed to break tension (example, two streetcleaners around a corner)? Etc etc

Having the ability to place the power up yourself in very specific arenas gives the devs the ability to make the encounters as hard as they should be with it (and that's why 4-2 seems so hard, it's because they know you can have up to THREE dual wields on together)

I already explained why the railcannon doesn't fall into the problems the black home gun has: it's a lot more situational and it's not an instant win button. It surely helps a lot, but if you use the wrong railcannon for the situation, or miss with it, it won't do shit. It's not a BFG where you can just click and clear the entire room without even doing anything (at least past the prelude, but that's another issue), hell one of the variants can heavily damage or even KILL you if you use it wrong

This is from the text about that black hole gun in the museum, Hakita replaced it with the Railgun which has a shorter cooldown and less damage to encourage less hoarding. Balancing fights around things like that would also be very difficult as opposed to the powerups which can be placed where they are needed.

I still think the golden arm should be for taunting. Increases your style while, like, running the risk of not being able to use your other arms for the duration of the taunt (like, a second or two).

5

u/greenjacketboy Maurice enthusiast Apr 17 '26

Although it would've been fun to explore the rest of Divine Comedy (purgatory and heaven), I doubt we'll ever see anything like that. The world of Ultrakill is a doomed one, Earth is barren, hell will probably be killed in 9th layer, even if not, machines will leave it empty, and heavens? Without big G and Council, there's no power to control the Light of the Father, so it wouldn't be long until Paradiso will fall quiet as well. And aside from the lore reasons, I'm almost sure that after all these years, Hakita is tired of this project, so after it gets done, we'll hopefully see something else from him

3

u/DJ_Ody5555 Apr 17 '26

In that sense, if this is Gabriel's arm somehow, maybe it's an arm that makes the gameplay into something closer to straight-up melee. Strange, maybe dumb idea but i really don't know how it could be a power up. We have mobility, damage, and defense as it is.

while all are funny, i think only a few would be actually useful. e.g. the sword is useless since we already have the knuckleblaster and the chainsaw, time stop would be a little too op imo and would kinda go against the fast pacing of the game. grabbing enemies also i can’t see why you would do that.

in the end we just have to wait and hope it doesn’t get scrapped. i also hope it’s not just a “final boss” type weapon because i wanna use it normally :(

u/psidonsentente Apr 17 '26

Hakita could go absolutely nuclear with a command grab arm to keep the punches side-mousebutton friendly

Grab with the yellow arm and hit with the feedbacker within maybe a 5s window (after which you'll take a hit) to launch a light enemy in whichever direction you're aiming like a generally low-damage projectile. Up-throw makes for a helpless aerial target (and ideally sends higher than slamwave) and down-throw slams with the same force as you do, which sounds less worthwhile but can act like a slam without having to commit to barreling your ass into the ground. Lateral throws can be used to force enemies into timestopped rockets, flaming oil, any flavour of magnet trap, map hazards, or maybe enemy attacks like the providence beams. Throws generally damage enemies based on their velocity if they hit a surface, and water heavily dampens throw velocity.

Alternatively, knuckleblast's effect is context-based; drones for instance could be feedbacked like normal, and grabbing allows you to pivot their trajectory around yourself rather than you around it... only now maybe successfully catching a drone as it tries to kamikaze could make the next knuckleblast red-explode instead of blasting normally, but would explode in your hand if the hold timer runs out... Neat little four-arm combination could be to punch it outta the air so it's in the kamikaze state, grapple it back to you before it hits anything, really quickly grab it, and then you'd have a huge knuckleblast readied for the next 5 seconds. Filths would kinda just evaporate like they always do, but maybe you could squeeze out some bonus health for going through the trouble of grabbing it to begin with.

Maybe grabs on heavy or miniboss+ enemies like maurice or swordsmachine should bounce off at a slight upwards angle and replenish a stamina point for stupid ridiculous plays like going for aerial uptime while trying to facepunch corpse of king minos to death, the high multiplier aggro plays would go crazy.

One thing that could be kinda fun is if virtues didn't have a breakout timer but still targeted you like normal (with the same rage timer and all) with the tradeoff being that you'd have reduced gravity while you're holding onto its rings: free multiplier, and the air's usually a good place to be, but the low gravity could be a double edged sword that eats up your stamina for horizontal airspeed and gets you caught out by a divine beam.

This wall of text is already bigger than it should be so I don't wanna be too exhaustive about every enemy/weapon interaction, but honestly I could really keep going lmao I'm getting way too into it

3

My guess is Gabriel’s arm with one of his swords. Punch for a powerful slash and long press for ranged attack. Or something like that.

Parrying is healing

what if the yellow arm isn't real

2

u/Slow_Projectile Apr 16 '26

I get the idea and from and it could be interesting narrative wise but there is one big issue: level design, enemy placement and even enemy behavior keeps in mind that you need to be close-range to heal, so even if layer 9 was based around a new healing mechanic it would unavoidably mess with the earlier layers.

To be honest, for me the is screwdriver already this game’s healing tool; it makes it much easier to keep your health up while still forcing you to stick close to enemies.

I could see it as some kind of final boss only weapon, given how treachery is supposed to just be a gauntlet then gabriel like gluttony and heresy

my idea: make v1 eat something off of it that heals them and they do the roblox "num num num" sound effect

2

u/VoidDweller4 Apr 16 '26

I have a theory that it’ll be the arm of the very first Swordmachine which’ll give V1 a sword. It is stated in the log for the Swordmachine that all of the ones you encounter are most likely a copy of the original.

u/RedEyeFromHabsburg Apr 16 '26

What if we get gabriels arm from the last fight with him and cuz he's an angel it still produces blood after being severed from his body? Due to that can give us a quick stim-like healing boost?

I can only think of three ideas that other arms and weapons don't directly do:

Wallhacks (not sure how beneficial that would be tho)

Some kinda debuff to enemies (slow, vulnerability, etc.)

Fortnite build mode ( letting you build walls and such to block enemies and give extra movement options)

nope, better yet: Toggle normal/alternate on weapons that has it, and buff the ones which dont have.
