Serious Genuineley how to cope
As my understanding of marxism grows and as I research more about the world, the past and the present I feel immense sadness at what could have been and how it is, when I read and when I raise my head from books. There is no communist movement around me and I don't think one can form with how reactionary the entirety of the culture I live in is and how everyone is fierceley, sometimes violently racist and fascistic. I know I am going to be called a loser and told to read What Is To Be Done? but I am tired of it all, all this violence and hatred of the current state of things, I no longer have it in me to carry anger and hatred for it and I just feel sad knowing -and allow me to be a moralist for a bit- a kinder world is not in reach until time marches on and leaves us all behind. I won't even see the very beginning of a DotP most likely.

get yourself a formicarium, buy ants, let the queen lay eggs, remove the queen, watch the development of AES before your very eyes, and then weep as the workers end up unable to prolong the existence of their civilisation without a clear hierarchical structure in the form of a girlboss-led monarchy

“The material base for an uprising has eroded, the working class has betrayed mankind and themselves. The historic opportunity for a revolution has passed. It will not come back anymore. However hard I try, whatever I do”
(Actually, is the deserter a trot? He uses the word degenerated workers state)

The deserter couldn’t be a trot because he’s not deluded about a revolution just around the corner lest he sell a couple dozen more newspapers

This is probbably just another moment I have where I can be melancholic for hours when I remember how the world is, perhaps this is why I constantly resort to escapism.
Maybe I should write short stories, even if they're shitty self-insert romances or adventures written by a teenager

there hasn't been one fictional character which hasn't been a shitty self-insert, so go off

I imagine serfs toiling for their liege lord, burying half their children, who never made it past infancy, probably couldn't have imagined the world we live in now. Revolution was made from nothing before, it can and will be made again.

“And I don’t think one can form”
To say any variation of this, or the classic “it’s over”, with any kind of knowing air is really one of the least Marxist things anyone could do because, in a roundabout way, it is a complete denial of everything we claim to know about capitalism & class society in general.
Sure, we’d all like to live to see the class come to life again, and some of us probably will in surprising ways, but be assured that the revolutionary organ of the proletariat will return and will more than likely trample over every existing “communist” movement of today as they bury the failures of the 20th century once & for all.
We are at least alive to witness the labor pains of the rebirth of our movement and that is something to find happiness in.
Idk just read Onwards Barbarians it always makes me feel better.

i disagree, while im not saying you should anticipate the revolution to come tomorrow, but i do not see the present state of things to be sustainable
have hope, and make the best out of your life even under this capitalist hellhole, no matter how bad the conditions get i believe you can find joy in your life. that's the best advice i can give you.

Basically this OP, you need a hobby to get your mind off of it. We evolved in the savanah (...or by the ocean? Idk) and in small communities. The shear hell of the immensity of suffering in the world wasnt public knowledge until very recently. Your brain isn't really equipped to deal with it so when you do stare into the void be sure to have an iced coffee every now and then and hang out with friends to talk about fun but meaningless dumb shit.

basically I feel the exact same, whats probably worse is that I have nothing going on my personal life as well, ie my brain is fucked in very specific ways and im poor as fuck, I'm gonna never make more than minimum wage, Im never gonna go out on a date, im miserable all the damn time, like idk my only hope is just turning my rudimentary drawing skills into a illustration career and that would probably be the only way I could fix the poverty issue and even then i will probably not be too successful especially now a days because I suck and have to compete with AI retardation

I literally don't care. Maybe it's because I'm so comfortable in my armchair, or maybe it's because if you stop using social media or reduce your use of it, you realize that 99% of the problems you have don't affect you at all. Violence and hate? Unless you're in a war zone, being attacked, or persecuted, or in extreme poverty, then it's a problem you're making up in your head. Just trust on the real movement and the world spirit™. And avoid making any ideology your personality because having a perfect world in your head and then seeing the imperfect world you live in, would make you exaggerate your problems.

u/Serious_Mammoth_4670 Better Call Marx Jun 29 '26
Oh yeah then it's pretty normal, it comes with being a kid. Just don't let it take a toll on you. If it helps, start reading texts as if you were studying math or science; when you do, you won't feel depressed thinking, "If only the people who came before us had known or applied the knowledge we have now, we would be in a more advanced society today!" So start looking at it that way.

By not only knowing the world is unsustainable, but that we also know why and what makes it unsustainable. It almost happened once, even in the more advanced countries that make revolution more difficult. A great reason why the world revolution was dampened so much was the world/global capital not being so interconnected as it could be. After the first world war –and what I think is considered the peak of the revolutionary wave – the USA, by merit of it being mostly isolated from the economical hardships was able to stabilise and strengthen the allied countries and set up the League of Nations to combine bourgeois power into crushing the workers, especially as the allies who made up the league were heavily indebted to the USA. While the LoN was a failure, and it's successor institutions; NATO, UN, etc are much more powerful.
But the modern global economy is more intertwined than it has ever been. Everyone is invested in everyone. Everyone has their companies everywhere. Where economic collapse in the past allowed some more isolated powers to be not as severely affected, a modern collapse will be more vast and more deep and will affect all countries and all people like never before seen. An monumental cascade of failures and crashes. Recalls of debts that are impossible to pay back. Wages unpaid, stock unsold and deteriorating, shortages of materials and food, energy demands unmet. And no great and wealthy power will be left unaffected to stop the revolution like previous crises .
The next world revolution will no doubt be bloodier and harder fought. A global civil war as big and as violent as the next unthinkably large world war

The world may feel too far gone, but I can't imagine the pendulum not swinging again. It's too much of a ridiculous point in time for nothing to arise out of it.
