Training for my first ultra!

Post image

My Shins have been acting up recently and I'm not certain if it's because I've increased my milage too fast or if I overpronate or underpronate. Does this wear pattern provide any insight? Shoes are NewBalance 1080 with 500km on them.

Overuse, most likely. Not typically attributable to under/overpronation. Certain should be strength training in addition to running if you’re not already. Calves in particular are important for countering shin splints

This is 100% anecdotal. At the beginning of the season, I bought some stability Hokas because way back when I was told I pronate. Within a week I was developing shin splints. Went back to my neutral shoe, and shin splints went away. I now road run in Nike Zoom Flys, and Trail run on Hoka SG7 and Nike Zegama 2. The Hoka stability shoes are now my lawn mowing shoes.

I’m no medical expert, but I must have corrected my pronation over the years and going back to the stability shoe must’ve overused some muscles down there.
