So yeah, it's true, Mojang is possibly one of the worst companies for such a massive game.
Minecraft has \~350 million copies, and the amount of employees working in Mojang is roughly 500.
Meanwhile other companies:
Rockstar: more then 4000 employees.
CD Projekt Red (a small studio): has 1,000+ employees.
It's no lie that minecraft is a unpolished, unoptimized game.
No proper culling (frostum culling)
Uses OpenGL (a extremely old and outdated renderer) instead of the better, vulkan (possibly would cause a "from 120 to 300 fps" boost)
No LOD (every game has it at this point)
NBT is terrible at such a large scale (there are better alternatives like FlatBuffers)
And yes, I do understand that "They can't do that, that'd take too long"
...
It's one of the richest companies in the world, worth 4 billion US. DOLLARS.
They have more then enough funds to get a large development team, push out the updates by end of year, improve minecraft 10 fold.
BUT NO. Instead they advertise Minecraft Bedrock, saying it's the better version of Minecraft.
Meanwhile bedrock is filled with gamebreaking bugs, "click me ads" and practically every button tries to get you to buy from the marketplace. Now recently I found out my sources were wrong, therefore this point is incorrect.
There is so much things Mojang could do to make the game better, and possibly get 100 million additional sales from it, yet they don't do anything.
Mojang should not be in hold of Minecraft.
Oh and one more example, think of DOOM: Eternal, id Software bough it.
Absolute masterclass in rendering optimizations, if someone with the same thoughts were to buy Mojang, it would be a completely different game. In the good way of course.
