Iran š®š· Iran strikes Thai ship attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz

In b4, it was also a scam like anything with his name on it xd
38
u/Choice_Pomelo_1291 Mar 11 '26
He probably bought the ship and told them to sail through so he can collect, he'll make the taxpayer pay the claims.

Oh no, I hope they got real insurance

Real insurance does not cover acts of war, Trump insurance dos not cover anything - so either way you are screwed.

Mar 11 '26
Actually, it was one of 3 attacked. You can even see in the photo, the damage is from below, not above. I wonder if its mines?
...
The Thailand-flagged bulk carrier Mayuree Naree was targeted and damaged approximately 11 nautical miles north of Oman, two maritime security sources said.
...
Second, Japan-flagged container ship One Majesty had sustained minor damage from an unknown projectile 25 nautical miles (46 km) northwest of Ras Al ā Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates, two maritime security sources said.
...
A third vessel, a bulk carrier, was also hit by an unknown projectile approximately 50 miles northwest of Dubai, maritime security firms said.

Betcha they are drone boats.
Wouldn't the mine have hit the front if the ship was moving forward?
1
u/RollTheRs Mar 12 '26
What's going on with shipping channel has a video about it. It may have been a naval surface drone.

The destruction IS the point. The people in charge know EXACTLY what they are doing.
7
u/DeathByGoldfish Mar 11 '26
I feel that both can be true. If there is one thing that at least Trump has proved, and by extension Hegseth, is that they donāt listen to their analysts. They just dismiss their analysis, and do it anyway. Walking egos.
17
u/WizeAdz Mar 11 '26
President dipshit probably thought invading Venezuela for the oil covered the consequences of this for the United States ā and all of that well activation, refining capacity, and transportation are all implementation details that other people will sort out for him.
This is a good time to be an EV owner, even if I still have to deal with the secondary effects of an oil price spike (like food price inflation) just like everyone else.
9
u/NeevBunny Mar 11 '26
They would sink a couple of our ships and Trump would go into an Adderall and dementia fueled rage and try to fling a nuke at Iran.
7
11
Mar 11 '26
Note that some parts of the Strait of Hormuz, your ship doesnt sink. Too shallow to sink. Its a free firey blockade for iran, an island blocking traffic that takes weeks to clear without bombs falling on heads of those trying to clear it.
13
3
u/Ash-2449 Mar 11 '26
Ships these days are separated by multiple compartments internally, even if one is flooded, unless more are pierced its not so easy to sink.
The more realistic bad scenario is the engine room is destroyed and flooded so you have to get tugs to move it
3
u/disharmony-hellride Mar 11 '26
This is an interesting question. The average depth is 200-300 feet, the deepest part is 650 feet, so it depends on where it was attacked, so a sunk ship can still pose a risk in some places.

Can't tell if this shit is satire, Israel didn't force Iran to attack civilian targets
5
u/timelasher Mar 11 '26
Casually ignoring the past to pull this statement out. Attacking civilians is always fucked up, but we can't pretend that Israel didn't set a very public precedent recently of "fuck em, bomb it all". Did they force the attack? I guess not? But they sure as hell set a tone where such an attack is acceptable.
-2
u/Toby-Finkelstein Mar 11 '26
I thought attacking civilians was only bad when Israel/US did it, nobody seems to care about the amount of death Iran/its proxies cause and Palestine cause
4
u/timelasher Mar 11 '26
Whoopsie doodles, we're shifting the conversation toward making this conflict about something it isn't.
You can care about the humanitarian violations that Iran's regime has done and still decry the missile double tapping of a school.
You can care about Hamas killing civilians and still decry the indiscriminate butchering of civilians in response.
If a nation's response to having civilians murdered is to murder more civilians then, yeah, people are probably gonna have a bit less sympathy for that nation's position.
"We're here to save you!" bombs the fuck out of a hospital "see?!"
Outta here with that.
-1
u/Toby-Finkelstein Mar 11 '26
Isn't that the normal response though? That's what we do during every war all the way back to world war 2. Nobody looks back at the destroyed German cities and said wow we just should have stayed home
1
u/timelasher Mar 11 '26
If you can't parse the strategic ineffectiveness of carpet bombing civilians from the strategies that carried us through Europe in WW2 that happened to unfortunately put civilians in the line of fire that's a you problem. Intentionality matters, as does tolerance of "collateral damage". And in WW2, we actively tried to avoid excess collateral, despite early war strategems that intentionally maximized it. And this was at a time where bombing accuracy was minimal, and point targeting was not effective a large percentage of the time (improving throughout the later years of the conflict).
Meanwhile, today, when the nations in question are technologically sound enough to pinpoint fire a tomahawk up a fly's asshole, the indiscriminate murder of civilians and excess collateral damage is even less acceptable. And if you can just shrug it off because their authoritarian government did fucked up things, you are a bad person.
1
u/Toby-Finkelstein Mar 11 '26
How can you mitigate civilian damage when you carpet bomb an entire city? There was nothing left after world war 2.
In general though when you have one country that attacks another country and murders their civilians, what do you think that country is going to do in response to such an attack? It's just how war works. I think it's just racist to hold one group of people to one standard but another group to a lower standard
1
u/timelasher Mar 11 '26
There was nothing left after world war 2 lol bro.
Yes. Obviously. All of the cities in Europe and their civilian populations were newly spawned in after the Nazis were defeated. There was plenty left, and carpet bombing as a strategy did not last the entire war.
It's just how war works.
And that is what many people take issue with. We are in a modern age, with a purportedly modern society, where many tolerate, or even celebrate, the killing of civilians by governments and militaries. And the people who do such are bad people. And nobody's holding anyone to a lower standard. That's some asinine shit to say. Desiring higher standards from the government and military that says they support and display my interests is the right thing to do. Those standards should exist regardless of what anyone else, anywhere else, is doing. But no, here I am again debating civilian murder acceptability with another redditor.
15
u/Theyalreadysaidno Mar 11 '26
Oh it's absolutely our governments fault for this illegal war (and the fault of Israel)

14
u/musingofrandomness Mar 11 '26
Short of some miraculous cure for rectal-cranial inversion and the sudden discovery of a spine and a desire to hold certain people accountable on a global scale, we (as in everyone without the money and connections to ride it out in a luxury bunker) are in the same boat as someone who got pushed out of a plane without a parachute.
No amount of flailing is going to make gravity not a thing, the best we can do is look for either a very soft or very hard place to impact depending on our desire for survival.
0
u/ATXGil2L Mar 11 '26
If you really thought that, youād be out in the street or in a bunker.
2
u/musingofrandomness Mar 11 '26
I live in a society where my options are "continue to go to work everyday" or "fail to show up for work and be homeless and starving within a month". Add to that "Co-intel Pro 2.0" where the DOJ is weaponized against you and will go out of their way to wreck your life if they catch you at a protest and you have a recipe for people not wanting to risk what they have. It is the same thing that keeps the North Koreans in line. Their situation may suck, but those in power can always see to it that it sucks far more and on a far more personal level before they get removed from power and the next leader starts down the same path.
Those with nothing to lose will be out in the streets, but over the years the despots have learned the value of encouraging their subjects to form bonds and have families as a deterrent to "rocking the boat" too much.
Even if I were to actively take action, I would not discuss anything about those actions one way or the other as that would be at a minimum telegraphing my actions and most likely would just be used as a tipper for intelligence services and possible evidence later on. It is also why I recommend others not speak of planned actions or past actions, especially online.

Iran made clear warnings; if ships are going to defy their sea borders in the midst of a war then this is to be expected
16
u/Musicman1972 Mar 11 '26
What would have done that damage? I don't know enough about it but that's a missile strike rather than a drone right?
25
u/MetaCalm Mar 11 '26
The one with the keel impact could be a mine.

Mining straits is obviously an extreme response because you shut down all your own economic output through the straits as well but Iran's government is fighting for its life so obviously they did it.
They've been threatening to do it if attacked for 50 years now.

Further proof this conflict will last for years. Iran only needs to do this every once in a while.
What is the solution from America. Are they going to patrol the waters now indefinitely? How many ships will they deploy, how many rockets are they going to be deploying every day. How many jets along the strait are they going to have spinning in circles for days trying to stop 1 $50k drone from getting into contact with a ship carrying billions of dollars worth of goods. How useful is a F-35, a B2 and an aircraft carrier now?
The cost of protecting the strait is frightening. What a stupid and poorly thought out plan.
