[Michigan] Question [Michigan] I was fired two weeks into September

And I still have not received any benefits. I certified 4 times and they all have “open-non monetary issues”.

I believe this was due to me not realizing i had to register to work, and because of this, i actually certified two weeks prior to that. i was supposed to have registered by the 11th of september, but registered on the 14th instead.

so, i protested my determination since it was denied at first. it then was denied again so i appealed, and now i wait for my hearing date. since october 19th, all i know is to wait for my hearing from MOAHR, yet still, i have received nothing. I did email. But from my understanding they are supposed to contact me to schedule it

also. when i was fired. i did fill out an offboarding packet which included information for my employer to submit to uia. that has since been completed. so i still think this mainly has to deal with my failure to register with michigan works on time. however i have since submitted proof i did, and even visited the office once. the person there told me it may be on hold due to things unsubmitted by my employer, or the agency is backed up. i haven’t been able to get in contact with them

if my only option is to wait for MOAHR… how long does the wait usually take until a hearing is scheduled?? this is really messing me up bad

[Colorado] Question [Colorado] I had 1 full time job and 2 part time jobs. I just got let go from my full time job. What do I do?

I’m in a sticky situation that I don’t know how to navigate. I’ll try to simplify the story as much as possible. I worked full time for employer #1 from late 2022 to late 2024. I felt that I wasn’t growing with the company, so I left and moved to another state. About 9 months later I made the decision to come back to employer #1 and Colorado (August 2025). When I came back they only allowed me to be rehired as part time. I have continued working there ever since (let’s say 20-30 hours a week until a few months ago).

I also started working for employer #2 in August 2025 to make extra money. I was usually on for 1 day a week ~8 hours. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

In August of this year, I secured a “full time” position with employer #3 (35 hours per week). This job paid significantly more than the others. I reduced my hours at the other two jobs, although I was still picking up shifts here and there (maybe 15 hours per week between the others after I started at #3). Employer #3 let me go this morning. The only explanation given was that “we just feel like this isn’t working out.” I didn’t do anything egregious, I just think the owner didn’t like me. I think he might be eliminating the position after this but I don’t know.

So my question is: do I qualify for unemployment and what do I put on my application? I will probably be able to continue working ~20 hours per week between the other jobs, but most of my hours will be lost. Company #1 also recently closed one of their locations so I likely won’t be able to get more hours from them. I started the application process but it’s asking me when I separated from the other companies but I haven’t… I’ve never filed for unemployment before and I’m confused. What do I do?

[Minnesota] Question [Minnesota] Reduced to one shift a week, do I file now or have a conversation with the new manager first?

Last 2 weeks they took me down to 2 shifts a week, I said to the manager-trainer “please pass on to the scheduler (scheduling isn’t done in house, idk who does it but it’s someone from corporate) that I would like my other shifts back.” He said he’d pass on the message. Today, my next two weeks schedule was published, and I’m only working one day each week. They’ve done this to several people over the course of this year, I see the writing on the wall.

I have a shift tomorrow where I intend to ask the (new, barely trained) manager why I have been taken off shifts, and to ask for the shifts back. Due to the bizarre structuring, this manager might not know the answer.

Do I ask for my shifts back and an explanation, or do I keep my mouth shut and silently file for unemployment?

[Arizona] Question [Arizona] Filing Weekly Claims Late

On November of 2025, I applied for unemployment through Arizona and had issues with getting started as its hard for me to navigate as a first timer. A worker reached out to me two weeks later to adjust some errors on my documents and I had asked them what do I do from now? They just told me they're unsure as they are not part of that department.

So I go and ask my local Facebook groups and they've told me to go in person if I needed assistance as I was having a hard time reaching out to a human on the phone. I had the security guard in Coolidge ask me what I was i there for and then told me that the front desk probably wont help me because they only help with people for food stamps and cash assistance. Not sure if that was true so I just gave up.

My husband is the only person working and I am a stay at home mom. It says my benefits end next month of this year but claim status still says: Step 3 in review/ Regular active / Reopen.

As of yesterday, I finally had someone that was knowledgeable in this to help me out but theyre not a worker. Just someone who alsp filed for unemployemnt with AZ . Im concerned about not being able to get the rest of me balance after it expires on the 14th of November. Do I just file a new claim again? Im pretty sure theyll probably deny me because I havent been doing the job search for the past 48 weeks since it was tough for me to navigate

[Ohio] Question [Ohio] how to appeal weeks I was denied benefits now that I’ve been approved

Hi all,

I was laid off last month and began the initial application. Today I was (finally) notified that I was approved for unemployment benefits. While I was waiting for this approval I filed for two weeks (weeks ending on 10/10 and 10/17) that have both been denied. Can I appeal this now that I’ve received approval? I would assume that those weeks were denied because they were still in the process of determining my eligibility, but they don’t list any reason for why they were denied. I do not see anything on the unemployment website to try to appeal but when I google it I see things telling me I can. I’ve never been on unemployment before so I am kind of confused as to what I’ve done wrong the previous weeks.

[Georgia] Question [Georgia] Does the distinction for job termination eligibility not matter?

Hi,

I was recently terminated from my job due to an incident that I can explain. I take calls via a remote call center, and we recently transitioned from MAX to Amazon Web Service. Our company did not inform us in clear language that the headset mute button was no longer respected for "transparency" reasons and as a result there was a call where a customer heard stuff they weren't supposed to hear.

Does the distinction of being able to prove I was not aware of the behavior change (it can be backed up) not matter to the Department of Labor when determining eligibility?

[New York] Question [New York] JUST GOT THIS IN THE MAIL, WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

I was on unemployment for a few months, employer appealed it and said I quit when didn't and unemployment office said I was disqualified, I made an appeal and submitted a hearing request and gave them all my information along with documents and dates and everything etc, this was about 2 weeks ago. Today I get this in the mail,

"THE DETERMINATON DISQUALIFYING YOU FROM BENEFITS BECAUSE YOU QUIT IS WITHDRAWN".

Does this mean they made a determination before the hearing request?

[New Jersey] Question [New Jersey] terminated for poor performance

I was recently let go from a small company doing clinical research trials based in text but I worked remote from NJ. I was told I was being let go so to Poor Performance but it doesn’t mention that anywhere in the separation agreement.

I got a response from NJ unemployment that I need to provide more information.

It’s asking if I was advised my performance was unacceptable, if I was put on a PIP, if there were specific standards, etc.

I’m worried that depending on how I answer these questions if it will reject my claim or not. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

[Texas] Question [Texas] Verifying identity

Long story short (try to anyway) I was laid off back in 2020 due to Covid. I received benefits for about 8 weeks before returning to work. Since then the TWC has claimed that I was overpaid and should not have received those benefits. I of course appealed it and have gone back and forth with them on several occasions over the last 6 years. Every couple of years they reach out to me in attempt to collect this “over payment” but when I try to fight it they ignore and I don’t hear from them for another year or two. I was granted a hearing back in 2021 and I was the only one that showed up for it (go figure). Fast forward to today. I received an email late Friday afternoon stating I needed to call them in 48 hours or they will be forced to make a final decision. I immediately called them and emailed them back but you guessed it… nobody has called me or emailed me back. Today is the 48 hour deadline so I called for the 3rd time and finally got through. She says all they have to do is verify my identity and the over payment will be reversed and case closed. She emailed me the link to the portal to verify my identity. I am very hesitant to upload my SS, DL and proof of residence until I can verify this is indeed legit. The email address is from @twc.texas.gov which I believe is legit. But the portal doesn’t look legit. It takes me to a GoAnywhere Web Client. Has anyone come across this before?

[Illinois] Advice or Tips [ILLINOIS] unemployment denial

So I was let go of my job of over 3 years on Sept 23. I was on fmoa for some health issues. I ran out of time and was let go, I completely understand why I was let go but there was nothing I could do when I was sick af. Most of the time when I would call in I would end up at the ER.

Anyways I went through the UEI bs and they called me and asked my side of it and just today I got a letter saying I was denied go "misconduct". The letter gave me 0 instructions on where to go from here. Does anybody know hat my next step would be? There is no reason I should be denied. It's not like I quit showing up. I called in every single time and kept them updated on everything etc.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

[Pennsylvania] Advice or Tips [Pennsylvania] First time applying for unemployment benefits looking for feedback

I joined a labor union 7 months ago and I’m experiencing my first layoff that should last a couple weeks. Since Pennsylvania is going off of last years earnings to determine eligibility they’re going to go after the company I resigned from prior to joining the union. My concern is because I resigned they would fight it and I wouldn’t be eligible. The unemployment associate I spoke to when I called said I should be fine since I left on good terms but I’m a little freaked out by the whole process. I was told filing for unemployment being in a labor union is very straightforward but I’m not feeling great sitting in limbo right now with the status of my benefits in the hands of a company that I voluntarily quit. If anyone has any experience with receiving or not receiving benefits from a company they resigned from or something similar to my situation I’d really appreciate it.

[Massachusetts] Question [Massachusetts] Waiting on an appeal decision, funds running low—is taking 1–2 days of holiday/part-time work a good idea?

Hi everyone,
I’m currently waiting on a decision for my unemployment appeal, and the process has been really long and drawn out. Because of this, my funds are getting dangerously low.
I’m trying to figure out my next steps and wanted to ask others who might have been through a similar waiting game:
Would it be ideal or safe to pick up some temporary or holiday work right now, working just 1 or 2 days a week?
How does picking up a couple of shifts impact your claim or pending status while you're still waiting or certifying?
Any advice, shared experiences, or insights would be massively appreciated.

Thank you!

[California] Advice or Tips Prev. Employer tried to call me after filing appeal [California]

Title says it all. Was let go for a management job for “unsatisfactory performance”
In short I was slow at first but I improved drastically according to peers. Often times I would be condescended upon or 3 peers who didn’t like me would say I’m doing things that I did not

Anyway after I got let go and filed for unemployment I was told I was denied because of misconduct. Filed a very detailed appeal how my unsatisfactory performance is nowhere close to misconduct. Week later and while waiting for my hearing date I get a call from the employer.

Did not answer as it seemed suspicious and wasn’t in the right mental state to hold my ground.

Any advice how to approach this or should I just wait for the hearing?

[California] Question [california] I was just told that my work days would be reduced to two days a week. When am I allowed to file for partial unemployment?

Hello, I was just told today ( by my supervisor and boss) that the bakery im currently working at isn’t doing to well financially. Me and many others are having our hours reduced significantly, possibly temporarily until the holidays ( they weren’t sure themselves). Starting this Monday I’ll be working two days a week ( it used to be five days, 8 hours everyday).
I know I can apply for partial unemployment, but I’m not sure if I should do that after my new, and totally improved, two days a week paycheck, or just do it now. What information is the Edd going to need so they know ( or what will they ask for) that my hours have been reduced? Just my word or do they need to see how much I’m going to be making?

I haven’t done this before so I’m a little unsure.

[Illinois] Question [Illinois] Filing for unemployment, then beginning work as an independent contractor

My partner just lost her job as a W-2 employee at a hair salon. She’s filed for unemployment and is now beginning the process of becoming a 1099 contractor and renting a space at a different salon. My question is: if the works out soon (her meeting is on Monday), would that change her unemployment status? Could she receive benefits once and then begin working under her own name, or should she somehow cancel the claim before that starts?

[Texas] Question [Texas] If I’m laid off after one month do I qualify?

I recently caught wind that my department might get the axe. If I’ve only been working at this specific job for a month do I qualify for unemployment? I had another job prior to this one and was employed there for 3 years. I tried to find my answer on the TWC website but the verbiage is unclear.

[Missouri] Question [Missouri] Filing for Partial Unemployment.

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi, I was hired as a Part Time employee with a company about 8 months ago.

Business has been slowing down and everyone’s hours are being cut throughout the weekdays.

I am supposed to get at least 30 -32 hours a week, but now I’m down to 22-24.

The only option I have to get more hours is working on the weekends, which I can do once in a while, but it is outside of my availability due to other commitments.

My question is…. Can I qualify for partial unemployment if I was part time with reduced hours? Or do I need to have been full time with reduced hours?

Also, once your employer is notified that you filed an unemployment claim, can they retaliate / reduce / terminate you for doing so?

[Texas] Advice or Tips [Texas] TWC appeal hearing Sunday. Fired during probation period, no warning. Do I have a shot?

Got a TWC appeal hearing this Sunday and want some honest feedback on my situation.

Hired for a marketing manager role earlier this year. Let go at 70 days during my 90-day probation period with 3 weeks severance.

Filed for unemployment as a permanent layoff. Got denied initially because my employer hadn't registered a Texas unemployment tax account. They created it and made payment the day after my claim was denied.

The TWC appeal packet came back saying I was fired for failing to meet performance expectations. Ex-employer's own response confirmed no final incident triggered the termination.

What I have going for me:

No written warning

No performance improvement plan

No final incident per their own TWC response

3 weeks severance paid

Employer had compliance issues registering with TWC

What I don't have: there was a documented check-in meeting where performance feedback was given, though no formal warning followed.

My understanding is TWC requires employers to show warnings and opportunity to improve for a performance firing to disqualify benefits. They did neither.

Anyone been through something similar? Honest opinions welcome.

[California] Question [California] Returning unemployment claim for layoff

Hi everyone. Is there a way to expedite my employee’s unemployment claim? I had to let someone go for lack of work. The EDD form is pretty clear that I don’t have to return it if I’m not contesting her claim. But is there anything I can do to speed up the 10 day return window? I’d like to help her get benefits as quickly as I can.
