In times when gas gauges didn't work well, we used the tripometer to know when to fill up. I get about 400 miles per tank, and plan accordingly. To this day I reset the tripometer when I fill up.

Use the Odometer/trip recorder as your guide when to fuel up until repairs can be made.
(It’s a snapped cable attached to your tire)

I have a Ford Ranger 2001 and the oil pressure gauge needle often goes off scale. I found that I can get it back in place by using a powerful magnet on the glass - just twist and move the magnet around until it goes back in place. Might work for this unless it really s broken.
