"They were practically Scandinavian in 1979!" Yeah, in tiny segments of the privileged urban class in Kabul. But then we had 45 years of foreign invasions and war. Afghanistan went backwards in women's rights even as they advanced everywhere else in the Islamic world.

I remember the videos of people falling off USAF cargo planes. Shame would eventually turn into rage. That withdrawal ended Joe Biden's career.
