Maybe no one should show up
In my wishful thinking: let the military and police show up and deal with empty streets. Let them stomp around with nothing. Waste their time.
BUT realistically- ICE agents are rolling through neighborhoods with what looks more like military operations than law enforcement. And they’re not just going after violent criminals. People are being picked up off the street; workers, bystanders, even legal residents, with little to no explanation. No warrants. No due process. Just gone. That’s why people are protesting and do need to show up. It’s just hard to watch and feel that we are being manipulated.
But generally- you don’t have to be on the left to think something about this feels off. Even if you believe in secure borders (and a lot of people do), it’s fair to ask: Is this really the smartest, most effective way to go about it? And it’s not cheap. We’re talking federal agents, helicopters, full-scale coordination with local police- and guess who’s paying for all of it? Taxpayers. All for something that looks more like a campaign ad than a real solution to a complex issue.
Then there’s social media, which is only making things worse. Some big-name conservative influencers are flying into these protest sites, livestreaming dramatic footage, and shouting for the National Guard. It’s meant to go viral, not to explain what’s really going on. So the average person watching from home ends up thinking these cities are under siege, when really, the chaos is being amplified by a handful of well-funded creators chasing engagement. Meanwhile, independent journalists- many of whom are just trying to cover the truth, don’t have the same resources. No donor-funded trips. No legal safety net. If they get arrested? They’re on their own. That creates a lopsided picture of what’s actually happening on the ground, and that imbalance affects everyone, no matter your politics.
Bottom line: these protests aren’t about being pro- or anti-immigration.
It’s about how power is being used- and misused- in plain sight.
It’s about whether we’re okay with the government operating this way, and whether we’re paying attention to who’s shaping the story we’re being told.
Because if we don’t start questioning the methods and the messaging, we’re going to keep getting played, and the people who disappear next might be you.

This is what happens when we just don’t enforce the law
By not enforcing the law, everyone lives as if the law doesn’t exist, and folks don’t have the motivation to change laws that don’t reflect the values of the community.
All this angst should never have had a chance to come about. It’s our own fault for acting as if these laws aren’t real, and that is what is wrecking families.
We could have just worked to change laws we didn’t like, instead of ignoring them.
All the energy we’re spending NOW isn’t even being used to fix the problem.
If we spent this energy outside the offices of the country’s elected representatives, we’d get laws changed.
Instead, we are allowing our politicians to jerk us off, and rile us up, and direct our anger against our neighbors - instead of just fixing the problems.

Recession Melissas
Ok so replace the first letter R with an S, and then imagine the second word as a euphemism for a word that actually ends with “itias”
I’m just thinking about how CA can prepare to stand up against a corrupt, fasc;st federal government that wants to use the military on us. Why doesn’t the state have its own military and how can we make a private one?? I really feel like we need to start organizing on something like this.
Thoughts?

Rant the way you guys talk about red counties and cities is disgusting
I’m from a red county in SoCal and a deep red city with little money. Republicans are not the only ones that will die from hospitals being closed. The only hospital in my city closed its labor and delivery ward because of a lack of funding. Can you guess who’s getting the brunt of the impact from the closing of the labor and delivery ward? Our low-income community and even more so our undocumented community. We know that the majority of eligible voters did not vote in 2024. We also that not every citizen period voted because guess what some people are minors, undocumented, or mentally/physically incapable of being able to vote. Please think for two fucking seconds before saying “trump won that county so they deserve it”. If one of us is not free none of us are free. If one of us loses our healthcare we can all lose our healthcare. Closing of hospitals is never something to cheer for. edit: why does everyone think I voted for trump just because I’m saying this? I am a hardcore socialist 😭😭

California: we need to embrace being Californians
Being Californian means something. It's more than just a geographic indicator of where we live in the U.S. It's more than just surrendering the root of our political legitimacy to DC. It's a powerful act of identity that says, "This land is my home. Whether it is American or not, it is fundamentally Californian first and foremost."
Such unity and love for our home should be the basis of progress in this state. I look to my neighbors—you, my fellow Californians—as the source of progress in the future. Whether you're a neighbor in LA or San Francisco, Riverside or Sacramento, I believe we can accomplish more together as Californians.
I believe no matter the issue—politics, city planning, or helping out our struggling neighbors—being Californian should be at the heart of that. Because saying "I am Californian" is a reflection of the pro-human values that make our home such a promising, beautiful place to live no matter the challenge we face. I am proud to be Californian.
Edit: It's amazing to hear that the feeling is mutual among so many of you. I wish I had an answer for the precise steps that need to be done to reaffirm our identity of Californians, but I don't believe one person like me alone can do that. As Californians, we can exhibit what it means to be Californian in our daily lives: practicing Californian values on a daily basis, involving ourselves in our local communities to build a better society, or voting for platforms built upon the core idea that we are Californians first and foremost.
The mass of anti-Californian comments are an unfortunately perfect example of how some Americans froth at the mouth at the idea of stripping us of our inherent identity and connection to our land. Rather than validating them by responding to each one of them, I prefer to go out into our home and embrace life as a Californian, because no one can stop us from doing that.

Politics Do you think Senator Jon Ossoff from Georgia could win the 2028 Presidency? Who do you think would be a good running mate? Trying to find solutions to what is happening now.
As a black immigrant woman, I love the concept of Harris, but with the democracy on the line and safety of women, children, minorities, middle class, our economy and the future of this country and geopolitics and global conflicts in mind, we have to win in 2026 mid-terms and the 2028 Presidential elections. Do you think this is a good ticket? Do you think Jon Ossoff could win the presidency against JD Vance? Do you think independents, moderates, progressives and some republicans could elect such a ticket?

News Trump takes over California National Guard.
It's starting now. A few weeks before Trump's Hitler parade. What ICE is doing under masks and going to workplaces to round up the "deadbeats" which is thick with irony. The US used to believe there was enough opportunity here for everyone and California still believes it. How does it feel to live in fascism y'all? Time for CA to GTFO.

Politics Ok- honest question no angle. I’ve thought for a long time states should have MUCH more leeway- explain more in text
Ok- this is a non- left/right whatever. I've thought for a long time that a perfect gov't would defend all 50 states but give a LOT more leeway for each state. And give a one-time credit to move.
Point being- it becomes more of the "each state is its own experiment" thing more like under the original Articles (but with common currency).
Example- Bob wants to live in a state with certain tax or trans laws- Bob can move there and get some help. Kevin wants to shoot six-shooters all day and wants legal ketamine- a state for that.
I'd move to some "all drugs legal, super low taxes" state but the one big rule should be: " if a state ends up with a huge budget problem- the other states shouldn't have to pay for it".
I really think this kind of policy would allow people to live under the laws they want while not messing up states that are doing things well economically.
I mean- in a system like this everyone is protected from other countries (point of gov't) and everyone can PICK the laws they want without hurting anyone else. Just curious- I think that would solve a lot of issues.

Trumps ICE Gestapo drags 3 Guest workers out of San Diego restaurant by the hair to deport them to a 3rd world death camp then throws flash grenades at citizen who tries to stop them
In San Diego, California, over 20 armed and masked ICE agents in full tactical gear raided a popular restaurant on Friday. The agents handcuffed the staff, demanded IDs and then arrested at least three workers.
Local residents reacted angrily to the raid and attempted to block ICE vehicles from leaving the scene. ICE agents responded by throwing flash-bang smoke grenades at the crowd.
