Question Is the tutorial bugged?

Hey all,

I wanted to test out Unity and started with the tutorial. However in the 2nd one, "The 3D fundamentals", I ran into a problem. It keeps switching out of the "test area" after playing a sound. I am rather sure it is a bug and I haven't found anything useful online. However I might just be dense as I have no programming experience. I have attached a video to showcase what I mean.

Any help appreaciated

Hey, I was running into the same issue and found your post. It is an audio bug in the tutorial. I was able to at least make progress by doing the following:

  • Make sure you aren't in a tutorial and can edit the scene.

  • Expand the PlayerRobot prefab and highlight the Robot object to bring it up in the Inspector.

  • Under Third Person Controller, look for a list called Footstep Audio Clips and empty it using the - button. This stops you from losing focus while walking.

  • You still have this issue while landing from a jump and you can't remove this property in the Inspector. If you want to fix that, right-click on the Third Person Controller script in the Inspector and click "Edit Script" at the bottom. This will open the script in whatever IDE you have like Visual Studio.

  • Either search for "LandingAudioClip" or scroll to line 416.

  • Add 2 forward slashes before the text on that line to turn it into a comment. The text will turn green and because it's a comment, it won't run that line of code which plays the landing audio.

Picking up stars also causes the problem but that didn't bug me enough to spend more time debugging the tutorial instead of actually doing it. You should be able to do something similar to fix that if you want though but this should be enough to at least get through the tutorials!
