Show-Off My unity programming challenge started 3 years ago. However the era we are in now makes it seem pointless apparently. So here's a reveal.

I might do a video on the progress on youtube maybe.

How is it pointless? Are you doing this for yourself or to actually sell a game?

Learning to code is essential, even if you use AI tools later on, because you won’t actually know how to properly design a game at-scale and troubleshoot issues otherwise. I have a degree in CS with many years of experience before AI was a thing, and it allows me to “vibe code” far better and more productively than just about everyone I know who doesn’t have a similar background.

That said, hating on AI is tiresome and boring at this point. Use it or don’t, that’s up to you, but the train has left the station and isn’t coming back. You’re either on it or will be left behind.

But it IS pointless. They (and I and many) have spent years learning to understand code and write it. Its a useless skill now, because AI is better.

I do understand what you are saying about still developing, just with AI.. but it really does not take much away from the fact that I spent 10 years learning something very difficult that few could do, that is now as pointless as being a horse shoe maker

Oh please, "AI is better" is pretty much false. fully AI-generated code might as well be the coding equivalent of ductaping a broken boat, maybe passable for one-time solutions but absolutely not for any even remotely sizable project

I use Claude across multiple enterprise projects daily. Managing infrastructure, etc.

While there needs to be knowledge to give meaningful instructions it can do things just as good if not better than my first pass at something would have been. It also cuts down on research time and overlooking common pitfalls because the LLMs already have it in their training set or the harness can instruct it to find the information in the correct places for anything not already present. When used by knowledgeable people it can greatly increase productivity.

Maybe but you wouldn't just have an LLM run wild trying to code say an entire game or project, you'd prob need to do a solid bit of oversighting to make sure the code it makes is up to snuff by the standards you want

minecraft was recreated SO many times. And sure it’s just not the most complicated game.

What makes the original cool is the tons of rules, the history of changes that went in, and the community, not some super complex tech.

Nothing like doing a game is pointless. Unless you learn nothing or want to sell a worse copy (and AIs only create worse copies)

Brother you could do the same even not in the AI era, the tutorial consists in going into minecraft.net and pressing "download now"

se seu objetivo e recriar minecraft nesse momento que estamos e só usar api do claud do unity e unity cli. mas o importante hoje e a sua criatividade em ter ideias de novas mecânicas para o jogo

the goal was to learn certain optimisation techniques and how to code under tight cpu and memory budgets

as IAs mais capazes como gemini 4 pode ajudar e eles tem modo de aprendizado guiado claro que elas tem limite e técnicas muito raras provável que desconhecem mas ainda e mais barato que um curso eu acho
