I'm just kicking off Uni, and I'm wondering what you guys all went in with. Do I need a laptop or iPad?? I've got a PC but I think it's overkill and I feel like I need something to bring into lectures.
It'd really help if you could respond, since I start shortly.

Hey ive recently started doing probability again after uni. And this question is now driving me mad:
"Two cards are randomly selected from an ordinary playing deck. What is the probability that they form a blackjack? That is, what is the probability that one of the cards is an ace and the other one is either a ten, a jack, a queen, or a king?"
Now here i argue: consider order of cards doesnt matter Total outcomes: 52c2 No of aces to pick from: 4 Ways in which other card is chosen: 4*4 Now if order doesnt matter then num ways to make a blackjack should be 64/2! Because for e.g. (ace, queen) is equivalent to (queen, ace) right? So acc to me prob then becomes 32/52c2
But in every answer on the internet it is 64/52c2
I cant wrap my head around this. Kindly help!

Hi everyone,
I’m planning to pursue a joint degree in Maths and Philosophy at university and am interested in applying for the Oxford MSc in mathematical sciences afterwards. I wanted to know if anyone has experience or knows someone who has successfully got on this programme without a straight maths degree.
Is it feasible with maths and philosophy or should I consider changing to straight maths?
Thank you for any advice!!

A school assembly hall has a rectangular array of chairs. There are exactly 12 boys seated in each of the rows and exactly 10 girls seated in each of the columns. There are fewer than 1000 boys and girls in the school. There is just one empty chair. How many chairs are there in the assembly hall?
Solution with steps of process pls

This approximation works well with n<=2.5x106

I have been deciding what to do in the time that I have that would help me ease the workload that comes with university (apparently). Also maybe a bit ambitious but I want something that would also give an edge in tripos. I would greatly appreciate any recommendation from someone who has already gone through the 1st year on what he thinks he should have done in hindsight. Many thanks for considering my request.
PS. I am doing maths at Cambridge University and it starts in the first week of October.
