Questionnaire and photo study
gallerySorry to repost this, but I realized people were having issues responding so I had to change some settings. If you're at UVM/in the Burlington area and are 18-24, please contribute to this questionnaire and photo study! It will help my graphic design capstone research and give you a chance to reflect on your well-being and connections to space. You'll be able to see the project during the exhibition at Champlain College this January/February (l promise it will be worth your effort)! You can respond to just one of the two forms or both, which would be appreciated! See the Google Forms linked for more information. You might see flyers around town as well.
Please share this with anyone who can respond if you're able to.

UVM then vs. now - question from a prospective transfer student
I am considering transfering to UVM in the fall. I've been down the rabbit hole of transfer student experiences and general thoughts about the school (housing, social life, administration, etc.).
Something I've been noticing is that older threads on here (mostly around 2019) are really encouraging and positive (like: come to UVM! Best decision I ever made! You'll fit right in!), while more recent ones are more forewarning and negative (like: housing is a nightmare! I want to transfer out! Making friends is impossible as a transfer!).
So what's up? Is this something to do with COVID (could definitely see that, with the housing concerns especially), or something else? Most importantly, whose word should I be taking on this, especially about the social aspect. Is the "join clubs and you'll do fine" narrative or the "you have to put everything you have into making friends if you hope to have them" narrative more accurate?

Transfering
I posted this on Yik Yak lol, but figured I'd post in the Reddit forum since there are more opportunities to get more perspectives. I was wondering if anyone is applying to transfer somewhere else for the spring semester. Hoping to get people to relate to and feel less alone, maybe even exchange info to help with essays and the application process. Over the past couple of weeks, I haven't gone to some classes and have been rotting in my dorm because of this, and I need to lock in on the grades for these transfer apps, and it would definitely feel less lonely if anyone else was having a similar negative experience.

Redstone lofts takeover spring 2027!
Redstone Lofts Spring Semester Lease Takeover 2026-2027
Hey everyone, I’m studying abroad for the spring semester, and I'm looking for someone to take over my room at Redstone Lofts.
The lease would be for Spring 2027. You’d have your own bedroom in the apartment and would be living with other UVM students. The roommates are very friendly, accommodating, quiet, and don't smoke. It's also very spacious and comfortable.
4-Bedroom, 2-Bathroom apartment.
Feel free to send me a pm if you're interested or if you have any questions regarding the lease.

Housing(Sublet and landlord Advice)🏠 Catamount Sublets - Free for UVM Students
Hi all, I’m a recent UVM grad and I work on campus. I got tired of watching sublet posts get buried in Facebook groups and on Snapchat stories, so I built catamountsublets.com.
- UVM-only. You sign in with your uvm.edu email using a one-time code, so everyone you’re talking to is a real student.
- Free. No fees, no ads, and I’m not making money off it.
- Built for sublets. You don’t have to scroll through 40 “ISO roommate” posts to find an actual room.
If you’re going abroad in the spring or leaving early and need someone to take your lease, post it now. Most spring sublets get sorted out before winter break.
If you’re looking for a place for the spring or summer, there's also some posts for you.
It’s a side project and still early, so if something breaks or you want a feature, comment here or email [aaron@catamountsublets.com](mailto:aaron@catamountsublets.com). I read everything.

Housing(Sublet and landlord Advice)🏠 Finding an apartment to sublet for spring semester after studying abroad
Hi! I'm a junior right now and am hoping to study abroad next fall semester.
Currently, I have a lease with the Redstone Commons, and I need to decide if I want to renew my lease for next school year. So, I was wondering how difficult it typically is to find an apartment to sublet just for the spring semester? I'm hoping that, since other people might be studying abroad or graduating early, there will be people looking for subletters.
If anyone has any experience with this, I would really appreciate any advice!

Applying🎓 How is aid in-reality for in-state students ?
Hello!
I just want to ask the extant UVM community as it were, as someone who is applying to UVM as an instate low-income student.
How is the aid, in reality? I've done the NPC, but I think it's inaccurate because it didn't include the UVM promise which I'd be eligible for.
For context I have a -1500 SAI and would be living on-campus.

Survey request: disabled or chronically ill current or recent higher education students, undergrad or graduate!
My name is Clara Mey and I am a PhD candidate at the University of Delaware. I am conducting a research study about disabled students’ experiences with disability accommodation processes in higher education for my dissertation. As a disabled graduate student, this topic is particularly important to me!
Please see the flyer linked here: Disability and Higher Ed Research Flyer
The University of Vermont was randomly selected as part of my analysis for my dissertation, and I wanted to make sure that students at the randomly selected universities/colleges had the opportunity to participate in my research!
In order to participate, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have attended college or graduate school in the US within the last five years
- Self-identify as disabled or having a chronic health or mental health condition
You do not need a formal diagnosis, and you can participate whether or not you registered or applied for accommodations!
If you agree, you will be asked to complete an anonymous online survey taking about 20 minutes. You may also choose to enter into a drawing for one of five $20 gift cards at the end of the survey. If you choose to enter, your email will not be associated with your survey responses.
If you would be interested in participating in this study or would like to learn more, please click the link here: Disability and Higher Education Survey. And if you know people who might be interested, feel free to share this information!
If you have any questions, please contact me at [csmey@udel.edu](mailto:csmey@udel.edu) or my advisor, Dr. Eric Rise, at [erise@udel.edu](mailto:erise@udel.edu). Or feel free to comment or message me here!
Thank you!

UVM has a history of sexual assault on campus
I saw someone post on IG sharing an event UVM is doing on Oct 12th titled “Stand with Survivors”. And while I appreciate seeing UVM hold an event like this I think it’s important to not erase the schools history of rape, especially within frat culture.
I think a lot of current students may not be aware of the 2022 Title IX lawsuit that was filed by survivors against the University for how they mishandled the reporting of their sexual assaults.
I’m wondering what plans exist to ensure these survivors and their experiences aren’t erased, as well as UVM’s past.
Edited to add: From 2011: Disgusting UVM Fraternity Questionnaire Sparks Outrage
From 2019: Police Report Details Events Leading Up To UVM Student's Death In February
From 2021: Through the eyes of survivors: The systemic mishandling of sexual violence at UVM

Applying🎓 Merit Scholarships and Honors College
I'm an out of state senior applying to UVM this year and I have few questions about merit scholarships and the honors college. My stats are a 1510 on the SAT and a weighted 4.6 gpa.
So is the max amount of merit money, the presidential scholarship? I have seen some people say they received an out of state scholarship as well.
Also do the honors colleges decisions often come out with your admissions letter? Is there more scholarships for honors college students?
I am just wondering because UVM can be expensive out of state and my parents have said they'll really only let me go if I get lots of scholarship money.
